No Trespassing! My Aloof Brother-Chapter 555 - 553 I Want to Go Home [5 More]
Sophia left, leaving only Liam Spencer and Maya Spencer in the living room.
Maya continued watching TV nonchalantly, while Liam sat beside her, flipping through the newspaper as if they were in their own home.
At noon, James Bennett came out of the kitchen and announced it was time to eat, and Liam pulled Maya over to sit down.
Moments later, Sophia also came downstairs. Watching Maya across from her, she was so angry she could almost bite through her teeth, but there was nothing she could do. She had promised Uncle Bennett not to cause trouble today, otherwise she would have fought with Maya already.
At the dining table, James noticed Maya wasn’t giving him any attention, which made him yearn for her gaze, hoping she’d look at him and praise the dishes he cooked especially for her.
He hadn’t cooked in a long time. For the past few days, he had been pondering which dishes to prepare for Maya, truly pouring his heart into it.
Seeing James staring directly at Maya, Liam clipped a sweet and sour pork rib for her, saying with a smile, "Maya, Chairman Bennett personally cooked this, have a taste."
Maya, looking at Liam’s initiative, felt her anger swell internally, thinking, what’s wrong with her brother? Why does he keep wanting her to appreciate another man’s kindness? Is he out of his mind?
But she couldn’t erupt, so she begrudgingly bit into the rib and said indifferently, "Not sweet enough."
James immediately responded to her critique, "I’ll add more sugar next time."
Next time? Hearing these words, Maya was bewildered. She couldn’t fathom what James was thinking; it was too perplexing.
"Chairman Bennett, your cooking is truly excellent. Maya has just had a lot of desserts, so her taste buds are dulled," Liam explained promptly upon seeing James’s worried and helpless expression.
Maya glared at Liam with squinted eyes, then lifted her right foot and stomped on his.
In response, Liam turned, pinched her ear, and affectionately scolded, "You little rascal, eat properly!"
"Hmph..." Seeing this, Sophia threw her chopsticks onto the table in frustration.
She hated others flaunting their love, yet Liam repeatedly displayed it right in front of her, which Sophia couldn’t endure.
It’s not that she was unhappy about not being able to pursue Liam; she simply hated others flaunting their romance, having remained single for 23 years, she feared being single.
Maya was incensed by Liam exposing her little schemes, biting her lower lip, thinking, absolutely not letting this guy sleep by her side tonight, nor tomorrow, nor the day after. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
Seeing Maya’s pitiable eyes, James hurriedly offered her two pieces of dessert, saying, "Maya, this is homemade by Uncle Bennett, taste it."
James’s kindness made Maya utterly collapse; she couldn’t figure out what this man meant.
She loved desserts, and he personally cooked for her. Despite being the chairman of a business association, he’s personally cooking for her. Maya thought this relationship was abnormal.
She couldn’t stand it anymore and didn’t want to tolerate it.
Thus, she slapped her chopsticks onto the table and, without looking away, spoke seriously to James, "Chairman Bennett, this is only our second meeting, yet you’re so good to me, making me misunderstand. I think my attitude clearly shows my stance. I ask that you respect yourself."
"I didn’t intend to come today, but my brother insisted, saying I misunderstood you. I don’t think I misunderstood at all."
"Also, Sophia, keep your little thoughts to yourself. My brother is mine, and don’t even think about it. I can responsibly tell you that as long as I’m Maya, there’s no chance for you ever."
As soon as Maya finished speaking, the dining room fell silent, and the atmosphere became extremely awkward.
James’s face contorted to an unsettling degree. He hadn’t expected Maya would reject his kindness so mercilessly, but she truly misunderstood.
James took a deep breath, furrowing his brow at Maya, prepared to offer an explanation when Liam quickly intercepted him, "Maya, you really misunderstood Chairman Bennett. He’s simply noticed a resemblance between you and Sophia and treats you like a niece. His affection is no different from Aron Hanson’s."
Then, he looked at James and asked, "Chairman Bennett, isn’t that right?"
Feeling innocent after Liam interrupted him, James still cooperated, explaining with a smile, "Maya, I didn’t expect that my initial feeling of kinship with you would lead to such a misunderstanding. It’s really my fault. Liam is completely correct; in my eyes, you and Sophia are both juniors. You remind me a bit of Sophia, which is why I regard you like Sophia."
"What? How could I possibly resemble this person? Don’t be ridiculous," Maya and Sophia erupted simultaneously, their words matching perfectly, considering it an insult to be compared to each other.
Watching the two agitated girls, James helplessly sighed deeply and continued to explain, "Maya, if I had any inappropriate intentions towards you, why wouldn’t I avoid Three Young Masters? Isn’t that logical?"
Upon hearing James’s explanation, Maya felt tongue-tied.
Indeed, if he had any inappropriate ideas towards her, he would naturally have avoided Liam, not pursue her openly.
Even though he’s now the chairman of the business association, Liam isn’t someone to be trifled with. He respects James as an elder but isn’t afraid of him.
Sophia watched the situation in front of her, noticing Maya’s relaxed mood, feeling unwilling.
So she immediately stoked the fire, saying, "Uncle, it’s not like that! You treat Maya better than me. If you don’t want her to be my aunt, why are you so kind to her?"
"Uncle, let’s not be polite. You pursue Maya, I chase Liam, isn’t that great? Everyone wins."
Then, she turned to Maya, cheerfully saying, "Maya, please be my aunt and leave Liam to me. I’ll take good care of him for you."
"..." Instantly, Maya’s face turned pale with rage, grabbing her chopsticks and throwing them at Sophia. Fortunately, Sophia dodged quickly.
"Sophia, if you don’t want to eat, go back, and stop spouting nonsense here," James, angered by Sophia’s mischief, reprimanded her.
It was challenging enough to get Maya to lower her defenses, only for Sophia to cause disruption. He regretted not sending Sophia home earlier today.
Liam, observing the furious three in front of him, felt his head throb.
"Brother, I want to go home," Maya couldn’t bear staying a second longer at James’s house.
Before, she hadn’t disliked James.
But now, just the sight of him annoyed her, not wanting to look at him any more than necessary.
Seeing that Maya was truly upset, Liam quickly soothed her, "Maya, since we’re here, let’s get things sorted out. Let me help ask for clarity, alright?"
Liam indeed wanted to have a conversation with James Bennett.
