Chapter 600: Chapter 598: Don’t Come Over [5 Updates]

Maya Spencer felt that James Bennett’s questioning and accusations were just indifferent.

He didn’t care about her mother’s death, nor did he care about how she had been living all these years.

Maya raised her head, looking at James Bennett with a cold smile.

However, there was one thing she knew: James Bennett was already 46 years old, with no plans of marrying or having children. His greatest wish was to reconcile with her, to hear her call him "Dad."

But this "Dad," she would never acknowledge, even if it killed her. She would let James Bennett die with regret, just as he ignored her mother, she would ignore him.

She couldn’t forgive the person who abandoned her, couldn’t forgive his irresponsibility, couldn’t forgive him for not even caring about her mother afterward, not even asking if she might have been pregnant with his child.

From today onwards, she and James Bennett would become strangers. She would never see this man again and would never accept any goodwill from him.

Besides ignoring him, Maya couldn’t think of a better way to retaliate; she could only use herself as a bargaining chip.

Thus, she stared at James Bennett and asked with a cold smile, "James Bennett, you used fate as an excuse and went to great lengths to get close to me, just wanting to acknowledge me as your daughter. But I’m telling you, Maya Spencer will never recognize you as my father in this lifetime. Don’t expect your daydream to come true."

"I don’t have a father. I didn’t have one before, I don’t have one now, and I won’t have one in the future."

After saying this, Maya turned and ran out of the study, not wanting to stay in this house for another second. She would never come back in this lifetime. She would never forgive James Bennett, never reconcile with him, and never call him "Dad."

Maya Spencer had never needed a father since she was a child.

James Bennett, after Maya’s outburst, was extremely frustrated as she ran off without even giving him a chance to explain. He didn’t want Maya to just escape like this.

He wanted to keep her here, wanted to explain things clearly to her. He didn’t want to miss this opportunity again like he did with Madelyn Hanson and let his daughter live a life of misunderstanding.

So, looking at Maya’s fleeing figure, he didn’t think twice and chased after her. He couldn’t let Maya escape like this, couldn’t repeat the same mistake twice.

In the living room of the villa, the servants inexplicably watched Maya rushing out of the study and were even more bewildered seeing James Bennett chase after her.

"Sir, what’s going on?" Miss Fisher asked with a furrowed brow, puzzled.

"Hold onto Maya, don’t let her run off." Back then, Madelyn Hanson had escaped right in front of him, and he regretted not catching her.

Hearing James Bennett’s order, Miss Fisher immediately instructed the other servants, "Someone! Someone! Quickly, catch Miss Maya."

At the villa entrance, upon hearing Miss Fisher’s summons, the servants immediately put down what they were doing and blocked Maya’s way.

Maya’s way was blocked, and she was gradually forced back into the villa.

At the foyer of the villa, Miss Fisher, seeing Maya retreat back into the room, quickly closed the door and locked it, looking at James Bennett in utter confusion.

Seeing herself with no way out, the anger in Maya’s heart burned even more fiercely. She quickly turned around, glaring viciously at James Bennett, questioning, "What right do you have to confine me? What right do you have to not let me go? Who do you think you are? Don’t think that I’ll be afraid of you, or that I’ll listen to you."

Looking at this little porcupine in front of him, seeing her rejection of him, James Bennett felt heartache.

He didn’t want to confine Maya, but Maya was too unstable right now; he didn’t dare let her leave, let alone let her drive. What if she lost control of her emotions, what if she suddenly had an attack, thinking of joining Madelyn, or using her life to punish him—what would he do then? He couldn’t let anything happen to Maya.

So, he calmly explained, "Maya, calm down. I’m not trying to confine you, and you don’t need to be afraid of me. I’m just worried that it’s not safe for you to drive right now. I will call Liam Spencer and ask him to come over after work to pick you up. After you have dinner, the two of you can head back together, okay?"

"Maya, it’s okay if you hate or dislike me. But, please, don’t joke around with your health. You haven’t eaten all day, have you? I had the kitchen prepare your favorite dishes. Why don’t you rest a bit here, eat something, and then head back, okay?"

Seeing the dryness on Maya’s lips, James Bennett realized she hadn’t had anything to drink all day, and she had been angry as well. He must calm her down; he couldn’t let her leave.

Upon hearing Liam Spencer’s name from James Bennett’s mouth, Maya suddenly let out a cold laugh.

"Hahaha, hahahaha..." Her laugh grew more eerie and sinister, sending chills down the spines of those nearby. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

James Bennett thought she was having an episode and cautiously asked, "Maya, what’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"

"Liam Spencer, Liam, he knew all along, didn’t he? The two of you were acting together to deceive me, weren’t you?" Maya suddenly recalled how Liam hesitated to bring her to the exchange meeting, realizing that he had known all along; he had been deceiving her.

She remembered Liam probing several times about whether she wanted to find her father.

Maya could accept that Liam hadn’t told her the truth, because she didn’t want to know herself; but she couldn’t accept that Liam used her like a fool, pushing her towards James Bennett, and she couldn’t accept that he even tried to mediate the relationship between her and James Bennett; nor could she accept that he had once suggested that she recognize James Bennett as her godfather.

She wondered how Liam could deceive her like this, knowing full well her aversion and hatred toward the term "father." Not only did he fail to distance her from James Bennett and the resulting pain, but he also turned her into a fool, with her as a fool appearing before James Bennett. How could he intervene between them like this?

Instantly, Maya’s mood plummeted to rock bottom. She never thought that she trusted Liam so much, yet Liam so thoroughly misunderstood her, doing the things she hated most.

At this moment, she detested Liam’s autonomy in bringing her closer to James Bennett.

Only now did Maya finally understand why Liam was so magnanimous towards James Bennett: it was because James could never be his rival in love.

Maya felt like a fool performing a drama in front of them. She didn’t want to see James Bennett or Liam, didn’t want to hear any explanation from Liam, or hear him say it was for her own good.

That was all nonsense; if he truly cared for her, he would have kept this a secret for a lifetime, ensuring she would never touch upon it. No matter what, he shouldn’t have drawn her closer to James Bennett.

"Maya, Liam was just afraid you’d be unable to accept it at the time, so he didn’t tell you," James Bennett explained.

"Mr. Bennett, don’t come near me, and don’t call Liam. You two deceived me, and I don’t want to see either of you. If he were afraid I couldn’t handle it, he shouldn’t have let you near me; he should have concealed it for a lifetime. He knew that the person I hated the most was the man who fathered me. How could he do this to me?"

Spoiler: There won’t be any issues between Maya and the third brother; they love each other so much.
