"What on earth are you talking about? Didn't Pei Yan say it was clear, oh! You mean he's framing us?" Although Dong Shigang was straightforward, he wasn't a fool. He caught on midway through and said angrily.

"It's more than just framing." Pei Yan stepped forward, gently closing Li Songtao's eyes, which remained open in fear and despair. He sighed, "It's also to silence him. Besides preventing him from leaking information to us, it's to cover up his conspiracy against his uncle."

Pei Yan held up the azure fragment in his hand and mused, "From the analysis of what he said after appearing, he implanted this thing in Li Songtao not just to punish his arrogance but to strike his uncle at a critical moment. Little did he expect that we would ruin his side plan, showing that their so-called alliance isn't so solid!"

"Now it's too late to say anything; he's dead in our hands. It will inevitably provoke the Li Family's reprisal. This Candle Dragon has played a clever game, but we don't care. Once you're in debt, you don't worry; once you have lice, they don't itch. After all, we were prepared for revenge when we captured him." A single Vlad was enough of a headache, and now there's Li Songtao's uncle to deal with; Pei Yan felt relieved as he weighed the fragment, mocking himself.

"We have no choice but to stay vigilant. By the way, regarding your meeting tomorrow with Shitang Longsi, do you think he will show up and hand over the person you need?" Gu Shenghui asked casually as he accompanied Pei Yan out of the cellar after instructing people to tidy up inside.

"It doesn't matter whether he comes or not. Letting him go back wasn't because I thought he would keep his promise." Pei Yan stretched lazily as he stepped out of the cellar and said, "It's not just Candle Dragon who knows how to sow discord. If Shitang Longsi doesn't come tomorrow, if we can't sow discord among them, at least I can disgust him."

"What if he comes?"

"If he comes, there are only two possibilities: one, there's internal discord, and Shitang Longsi wants to use us to kill someone. But if he does that, we've got dirt on him, making it impossible for him to stay at Shen Yu and letting me play him at will. The second possibility?"

Gu Shenghui picked up where Pei Yan left off, "The second possibility is a trap!"

Pei Yan nodded and shrugged, "But I can't imagine what kind of trap they could set for me under the high-pressure situation in the Immortal Palace. So I think it's more likely that he'll break the appointment. However, to prepare for any unforeseen events that might happen, I'll absorb this fragment overnight."

Having said this, Pei Yan bid farewell to Gu Shenghui and returned to his room. After he and Lin Junzhao thoroughly inspected the fragment taken from Li Songtao, confirming there was no residual energy from the Candle Dragon, Pei Yan was finally at ease to sit cross-legged and begin the absorption process. Familiar with the process, he easily merged the laws and energy of the fragment with his own. But upon complete absorption, he fell into deep terror and confusion.

A few gunshots sounded from Pei Yan's room, alarming Zheng Jia Ru and Wang Wenze, who were on night watch downstairs. They glanced at each other, feared the worst, and rushed upstairs, pushing open the door to find Pei Yan pale-faced and sitting dumbfounded on the bed, while the room was a mess, with several vases shattered and scattered in pieces.

"What's going on? What are you doing in the middle of the night?" Wang Wenze, seeing no stranger in the room and Pei Yan safe, sighed with relief and asked inquiringly.

Pei Yan, snapped out of his daze by the question, said with a hint of apology, "Oh, nothing, just testing a new ability and ended up scaring you, sorry. Oh, by the way, did you see anything else?"

"Wha-what other things? You mean there's someone else in this room?" Zheng Jia Ru immediately tensed upon hearing this, releasing his origin to scan the surroundings, but found nothing. He turned to Pei Yan, surprised, "There's nothing here, are you alright? You haven't gone mad, have you?"

Pei Yan gestured dismissively, "No, just asking. You guys can go, leave me alone for a while, thanks!"

Wang and Zheng exchanged glances, aware of Pei Yan's current delicate state, and did not reproach him much. They reminded him to stay safe and call them if anything happened before leaving the room. Listening to the sound of the door closing and looking at the broken vases, Pei Yan looked up at the invisible figure unseen by others and sighed, "What is this? A vengeful ghost? Your death is somewhat related to me, but even if you're seeking revenge, you should go after the Candle Dragon, it wasn't me who killed you."

If Wang and Zheng, who left, could see what Pei Yan was seeing, they would be shocked because the figure Pei Yan was speaking to was none other than Li Songtao, who had died earlier that day. It was them who had sent his body from the Yirong Pavilion to the Immortal Palace for handling, and now seeing his figure reappear would surely terrify them into a sickness.

This was also Pei Yan's reaction upon seeing the figure after absorbing the fragment and activating his powers. Despite his battle-hardened nature and experience in gruesome kills, he was chilled to the bone, instinctively firing several shots with his left hand, only to find the bullets passed through and shattered the vases behind, while Li Songtao's figure stood there motionless.

His childhood experiences had ingrained a deep fear of ghosts in Pei Yan. Despite now understanding the truth of those years, psychological scars linger throughout one's life. After a couple of deep breaths and regaining his composure, Pei Yan bravely got out of bed and approached Li Songtao's figure, waved his hand in front of him seeing no reaction, then blew at him. Suddenly, Li Songtao responded by mimicking Pei Yan and blew back at him.

"Damn!" Feeling the chill of a spectral breeze, Pei Yan leaped backward like a startled cat and, hearing the stairs creak again outside, shouted, "No need to come in, I'm fine!"

"Are you sure you're okay?" asked Gu Shenghui, concerned, as the footsteps stopped abruptly, awakened by the gunshots.

"I'm fine, just a little issue here that I can handle on my own. If you hear weird noises again, don't worry, I'll call you if I need help."

After sending away the people at the door, Pei Yan slumped in his chair, looking at the figure of Li Songtao mimicking him and sitting mid-air, utterly at a loss and sought help from Lin Junzhao, "Big Sis, what on earth is this? What is he?"

"Hehehe!" From within came Lin Junzhao's cracking laugh, after experiencing all the trouble that day, seeing Pei Yan's embarrassed state, she found this moment to have a genuine hearty laugh.
