Just as Pei Yan was feeling puzzled by the amazing effect brought by Lin Daozi's sword, he saw the burly man pierced through the throat by the longsword starting to rapidly inflate like a balloon. Anyone who wasn't a fool could tell that there was something strange about this scene. The contestants who had rushed to the front line all halted and floated backward.
Bang! After a muffled explosion, the body of the Blood Slaughter Squad member burst suddenly after swelling to its limit. A thick Blood Mist spewed from within, spreading rapidly. Not knowing the nature of this mist, the crowd dared not rush forward and retreated again, until the Blood Mist enveloped the entire area where the Blood Slaughter Squad was located, ceasing its expansion and lingering in place.
Seeing this scene, the teams from five different dimensions looked at each other, unsure of what to do. The Blood Slaughter Squad was indeed a common enemy, but no one wanted to be the first to engage in battle and exhaust themselves, only to be eliminated and have others reap the rewards. With these concerns in mind, the teams with their own hidden agendas fell into a stalemate.
Pei Yan was the first to take action, realizing that nothing would happen if things continued this way. He launched several small drones from his body, directing them straight toward the Blood Mist. Unexpectedly, as soon as they hit the mist, they were bounced back. The mist had solidified, becoming as elastic as a blob of jelly.
Seeing Pei Yan make a move, the others did not hesitate any longer. A young man from the Immortal Palace Team stepped forward, and with a flick of his large sleeves, the calm sky suddenly changed, and strong winds roared. Waves of hurricanes surged between his sleeves, striking the Blood Mist like tidal waves. Yet, the Blood Mist proved remarkably resilient. Despite the relentless winds distorting its outer appearance, it remained unmoved and quickly regained its original form after the winds subsided.
At this moment, the hot-tempered Saraf couldn't hold back any longer. He stepped forward, glaring disdainfully at everyone present, then raised his arm. A Fireball instantly formed in his palm, growing rapidly with the infusion of his primal energy. Just as Pei Yan eagerly awaited to see the effect of this attack, an iron chain suddenly shot out from within the Blood Mist, wrapping around Saraf's arm with a swish. Before Saraf could react, the chain pulled fiercely, dragging him towards the Blood Mist.
Caught off guard, Saraf stumbled as the chain pulled him, interrupting the formation of his Fireball, which was launched off at an angle, skimming along the edge of the Blood Mist. Furious at being ambushed, Saraf refused to submit. This man was indeed quite tenacious; he grabbed the chain with a reverse grip, twisted his body, exerted his strength through his arms, and with a loud shout, pulled the chain towards him.
Creak, creak, creak—the material of this chain was unknown and remarkably forged, refusing to break under Saraf's brute force. Meanwhile, the strength of the unseen person within the Blood Mist was formidable. Unyielding, they engaged in a tug-of-war with Saraf, gradually pulling him away from his position and into the mist amidst the creaking sound of the chain.
Though not particularly fond of Saraf, Pei Yan couldn't ignore a teammate being dragged into peril by the Blood Slaughter Squad. Analyzing the resonant frequency of the chain, he promptly drew a longsword and struck down upon it. With a crisp snap, the chain was severed. However, before Pei Yan could rejoice, the chain sprang back, seeming to possess a life of its own, as the two severed ends reconnected, intact once more.
More awkwardly, at the moment Pei Yan severed the chain, Saraf, still exerting force, suddenly lost his opposition and fell backward. As the chain reconnected, Saraf, having lost his balance, could not resist the pull from within the Blood Mist and was on the verge of being dragged inside.
Seeing his attempt to help backfire, Pei Yan couldn't let Saraf suffer like this. Ignoring protocol, he rushed forward, wrapped his arms around Saraf's waist, and activated engines on both sides of his body, pushing them both backward until they barely regained stability at the edge of the Blood Mist.
"Hah!" Pei Yan let out a breath, just about to urge Saraf to struggle with him to break free, when countless iron chains suddenly shot out from within the mist. Pei Yan and Saraf, unable to dodge, were swiftly wrapped tightly by the chains and dragged straight into the Blood Mist.
"Fellow Daoist Pei, I'll help you!" Lin Daozi cried, rushing forward, grabbed hold of a chain, and was also pulled inside.
"Pei Yan!" Xun Rou and Pei Jin, noticing something wrong, exclaimed and charged forward; in the ensuing scuffle, Xun Rou and Zheng Jia Ru were also ensnared by chains and dragged into the Blood Mist.
"Young Master!" As the Spirit Monster World member called out and rushed toward the Blood Mist, they were struck by a flying chain and repelled. Then, the once sprawling Blood Mist rapidly contracted, not giving anyone else a chance to intervene. When everyone gathered their wits, the Blood Mist, along with the Blood Slaughter Squad and those dragged inside, had vanished without a trace, leaving only the empty sky and a group of stunned contestants.
"Where did they go?" The team, suddenly down by three members, abandoned their usual composure, their faces darkened with rage as they growled. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
"It's a Space Technique; they've been dragged into an alternate dimension!" responded Xila of the Hell Plane. Having located Pei Yan's team, she dutifully fulfilled her promise to the Investigative Bureau, rushing to their side to respond to potential emergencies.
"I was wondering why the Blood Slaughter Squad dared to enter the tournament—this is why they rely on. If surrounded, they drag their opponents into an alternate dimension to defeat them individually. Clever plan!" At this moment, a female cultivator from the Immortal Palace, who had been standing alongside Lin Daozi, stepped out. With her arms extended and eyes closed for a long moment, her delicate brows furrowed slightly. Her previously confident face flashed with a trace of worry, then turned to anger as she exclaimed, "Those damn Blood Slaughter bastards! They dared to bring a Divine Artifact into the field!"
"Did she say they used a Divine Artifact? Can Divine Artifacts be used in this tournament?" Pei Jin's expression changed as he heard this, immediately grabbing Xila beside him to question her.
"Uh, that female cultivator is Lin Xunrou, another Child of Origin from the Immortal Palace. A space technique that even a Child of Origin cannot pinpoint can only mean one thing—they used a Spatial Divine Artifact. Traditionally, these are competitions to test the strength of the younger generation, and Divine Artifacts shouldn't be used," Xila confessed with a start. "But no one ever wrote that rule into the competition guidelines because nobody had ever used a Divine Artifact in previous tournaments, so strictly speaking, the Blood Slaughter Squad exploited a loophole in the rules."
