The film crew starts work at eight, but the preparation beforehand takes some time. The staff arrived early, as did the actors, all brought together by a bus to the school.
Diana Johnson, who had stayed up all night memorizing the script, was not fully awake. She dozed off for a bit on the shaky bus ride and rubbed her eyes drowsily upon waking up. She followed behind the crowd off the bus, only to be startled awake the moment she stepped out.
The first floor of the cafeteria was rented by the crew and was responsible for the meals of two crews. It was breakfast time, and the bus took them directly to the cafeteria entrance, where the staff of both crews could line up to get their breakfast freely.
People were coming and going, bustling about.
As soon as Diana lifted her eyes, she saw a young man standing at the entrance of the cafeteria. He was casually dressed in a T-shirt and long pants, tall and lean, with the unique slenderness of youth.
He kept his eyes slightly lowered, his bangs touching his eyebrows, and his expression showed a hint of impatience. One hand carried a load of breakfasts, all from a certain breakfast shop outside the school, and the other hand held onto a four or five-year-old boy. The boy was as cute as a little carved doll, and his deep-set eyes and brows bore a striking resemblance to the young man, exuding a cool vibe.
The pair, one big and one small, stood out, occasionally drawing the attention of passersby, who privately speculated whether they were actors from the opposite crew.
Marcus Shaw.
"Hey."
Diana walked over by herself and suddenly spoke up, causing both the young man and the little boy to raise their eyes simultaneously and look at her, seemingly out of sync.
Marcus furrowed his brow slightly, sizing her up without a clue, unable to recall who she was.
"You don’t recognize me?"
Diana tilted her head, guessing the truth, her eyes full of surprise and disappointment.
Marcus looked at her blandly and asked, "Who?"
"..."
Facing a third self-introduction situation in front of this person, Diana blinked her eyes, feeling a bit at a loss for words.
What’s wrong with this guy!
She had introduced herself when buying bubble tea, and then they had run into each other several times on campus. Every time she greeted him, he pretended not to see... is he pretending, or does he have a filter installed that automatically blocks her out?!
Andrew Hughes lifted his head, glanced at Diana, and then at Marcus, ultimately choosing not to say a word.
Girls like this often came to "hit on" Marcus. Although Andrew wasn’t very old, he was used to such scenes, having seen them many times.
"Have you been here long?"
Suddenly, the voice of Nora Scott came from behind, tinged with laziness and casualness, sounding unenthusiastic.
Diana turned her head and saw Nora, Rosie, and Henry Chapman walking side by side. She blinked and realized—Marcus was Nora’s younger brother, and he was probably waiting for Nora here.
"Yeah."
Marcus lifted his eyelids and replied very directly.
As soon as he opened his eyes, he saw Nora’s order: she wanted this and that, afraid of not eating herself to death. So he bought some food and waited at the cafeteria entrance, and then she texted back saying she had just woken up.
Marcus Shaw was about to exhaust half of his life’s patience on this drop-from-the-sky sister.
Hearing this, Andrew Hughes tugged a bit at Marcus’s hand in dissatisfaction, then looked up and called out in a clear voice, "Sister!"
"..."
Marcus was goosebumped all over by his sweet act of calling out.
"Sister, Sister Rosie, Actor Chapman."
Diana stepped back two steps and greeted the three one by one.
"Good morning." Rosie greeted Diana with a smile and nodded, then turned her head, glanced at Marcus, and said to Nora with interest, "Hall Master, is this your brother? The genius boy mentioned by Minister Robbins?"
"Ah."
Nora responded perfunctorily.
Diana looked utterly bewildered: Hall Master? Minister Robbins? Genius boy? What’s with this overwhelming aura of adolescent awkwardness...
"Hello, Master Shaw." Rosie greeted Marcus, the title causing a crack in Marcus and Diana’s expressions, though she didn’t notice and then squatted in front of Andrew Hughes, "And who’s this?"
Andrew Hughes unhesitatingly introduced himself, "Hello, sister. My name is Andrew Hughes."
"So well-behaved."
Rosie said as she moved to pat his head, but Andrew instinctively leaned back, avoiding her touch.
Rosie paused her movement, not insisting and promptly withdrew her hand amiably.
Diana stood there a bit awkwardly, but then someone called her to get breakfast, so she didn’t stay long and said goodbye to the others before leaving quickly.
"Do you want to eat together?"
Nora asked the question casually as she accepted the large pile of breakfasts handed over by Marcus.
"No—"
Marcus was just about to refuse when he was interrupted by Andrew Hughes.
"Yes!"
Andrew Hughes nodded decisively.
Lowering his gaze, Marcus glanced at him, feeling confused, "Didn’t you eat already?"
Being exposed, Andrew Hughes didn’t feel embarrassed at all, only paused for a second before calmly retorting, "Not full."
