Pampered by My Ex's Cousin-Chapter 236 - 230 I Miss You! (22)
Ji Anning thought about it and insisted on going with her mother, "It’s okay, I’ll sit there and talk to Dad. I promised him yesterday that I would visit again today."
Seeing her stubbornness, her mother did not stop her anymore, "Alright then."
’Ding Dong’
Just then, the doorbell rang.
Her mother glanced at the door, thought of something, and said to Ji Anning with a smile, "It must be Aunt Zhang from next door bringing us sesame oil. She brought it from her countryside home. You go put on some clothes, I’ll open the door."
Ji Anning nodded and hummed in agreement, then turned and walked toward her room.
She pushed open the door, which was older than her, into the small room with its old furniture, yet everything was tidy and clean. The bed linens and covers were newly bought when she returned.
They had a small floral pattern, very fresh and simple in style.
She opened the wardrobe, and inside were a few clothes for the season, all newly bought upon her return. She did not hesitate and reached for a yellow jacket sweatshirt, slipping it on.
"Ji...Chairman Ji."
Suddenly, an astonished and tense voice of her mother came from outside the door.
Chairman Ji! Grandfather!
Ji Anning startled, her eyes wide open. She gripped the clothes in her hands tightly, wishing her heart could stop for a moment, not making any sound.
Why had her grandfather come? Even if he was here to see her, he didn’t need to come himself.
"Mrs. Li, I heard Anning has returned."
Ji Anning was wondering if her mother might have mistaken someone else when Ji Zhengdao’s voice came from outside, polite yet commanding.
He went straight to the point, catching the simple Mrs. Li off guard, leaving her flustered, "It’s...not that, she did come back, but..."
"I just went to see your husband a while ago." Ji Zhengdao interrupted Mrs. Li’s hesitant words, decisive yet not impolite, "His doctor spoke with me briefly, saying your husband’s recovery has been much better recently."
"Thank you, Chairman Ji, for your concern." Mrs. Li nodded gratefully.
The living room was very small, with no sofa, only a few chairs around the dining table. She felt slightly awkward looking at Ji Zhengdao, not knowing how to invite him inside.
Ji Zhengdao noticed her discomfort and casually looked around the room, "Where is Anning?"
After asking, he stepped forward, crossing the threshold.
Ji Anning knew her mother, a woman who had never been worldly wise or even left City C, couldn’t handle her grandfather, a seasoned businessman.
Unable to bear seeing her so helpless, she boldly pulled open the door and walked out, approaching Ji Zhengdao as he entered, "Grandfather."
She called out softly, biting her lip and stopping in her tracks, waiting for him to decide her fate.
"Am I that frightening?" Ji Zhengdao stopped in front of Ji Anning, looking at her warmly.
Ji Anning quickly shook her head, "No, not at all."
It wasn’t that he was frightening; rather, his status brought immense pressure.
Ji Zhengdao smiled, "Don’t be nervous, I just came to see you. I’ve spoken to the school, stay here for a few days then go back."
As he spoke, he surveyed the modest house, "Apart from being small, it’s quite clean and tidy."
"Grandfather..." Ji Anning looked at Ji Zhengdao, surprised and puzzled.
He wasn’t here to hold her accountable, nor to discuss canceling her engagement with Ji Jingfeng?
He was letting her stay for a few days before returning, but why?
