Pampered by My Ex's Cousin-Chapter 237 - 231 I Miss You! (23)
Didn’t the old man know what Jingfeng had done to her?
If he knew, did he still think they would be together? Did he still want them to be together?
If he didn’t know, she’d broken the first rule she was given when she entered the Ji Family house, and instead of being angry, he’d just said he’d come to see her and even helped her ask for leave from school.
Anning stared at the old gentleman’s face with suspicion, her eyes searching, trying to guess his thoughts, but she couldn’t discern even a trace of what he was thinking.
Ji Zhengdao paid no mind to Anning’s confusion, and looking at her, he said earnestly, "Come back home after a while. Your young uncle has gone to America again, Jingfeng has been sent by me to the newly bought villa to reflect behind closed doors, and the house is very quiet now. You should come back and keep grandpa company, play chess with him."
He... went to America again?
’You and Ji Jingfeng can consider this place for your honeymoon.’
’No, I have to drag your young uncle here with me tomorrow...’
Is he engaged to Danning? Did he go out to have fun with Danning?
Anning thought about it, her heart a mixed bag of emotions, not knowing what she felt. It wasn’t sadness, nor heartache, nor regret.
Was it... loss?
She lowered her head, looking at the tips of her shoes, her heart disturbed by the old man’s casual remarks.
When she left, she thought everything through clearly, had decided to let go, and left behind a note.
He really hadn’t come looking for her, not even a text message, but what was she doing now?
"Director Ji, please have a seat, I’ll go get you a glass of water," offered Mrs. Li, noticing that Anning was lost in thought and had failed to invite the old man to sit.
She hastened forward, pulling a chair out for the elder to sit.
She turned around to head to the kitchen to fetch the water.
Ji Zhengdao waved his hand at her, "Don’t bother, go about your business."
Mrs. Li paused, glanced at Ji Zhengdao, then back at Anning, unsure whether she should go get the water.
She wasn’t sure whether Ji Zhengdao was disdainful of their cups, of their water.
"Mom, go to the hospital and take care of dad. I’ll talk with grandpa for a while," Anning said, knowing her mother wasn’t adept at handling such situations, so she took the initiative to send her away.
After seeing her mother out, Anning’s gaze returned, and pointing at the chair her mother had pulled out, she said to the elderly man, "Grandpa, please take a seat. I’ll go get you a glass of water, but we might not have any tea leaves here."
In this home, if it wasn’t for her return, her mother would seldom come back once a month, having no need to stock tea leaves.
"It doesn’t matter," Ji Zhengdao said softly, shaking his head with a smile on his face.
He walked a few steps to the dining table, bent down, and sat on the chair.
Anning fetched a glass of water and put it in front of Ji Zhengdao, then sat down opposite him.
Ji Zhengdao reached for the glass of water. The transparent glass cup was held up as he stared at the surface of the water but didn’t drink.
Anning didn’t know what the old man was thinking. After hesitating several times and carefully considering her words, she mustered the courage to speak in a very tactful tone, "Grandpa, Jingfeng and I both feel that we’re not suitable for each other."
Having said that, she anxiously awaited the old man’s reaction.
Would he erupt into a thunderous rage, or toss the water in his hand at her?
However, Ji Zhengdao lifted his head and looked at her with a face full of guilt, "Grandpa knows, it’s Jingfeng who has wronged you. You don’t have to worry about him. Even if he doesn’t marry you, I won’t allow him to be with that Bai Guo. If he wants to be with her, he can go outside and start from nothing. How far he can go, how high he can climb, it’s all up to his own destiny."
