Chapter 69: Chapter 69 Reluctant Cohabitation (Part 15)

"It’s a very ordinary and generous design, a rhombus-shaped pink crystal pendant, with a platinum S-curve chain," Ji Anning said as she gestured with her hands to Ji Chicheng, "The hidden clasp is her zodiac sign, and her birthday is engraved on the back. It was meant to be a gift for her own eighteenth birthday, but she hadn’t expected to wait a whole year just to place the order."

Her tone involuntarily carried a hint of sarcasm.

Ji Chicheng chuckled softly, "I guess it’s true that scarcity adds value."

"Yes, over two million..." Ji Anning agreed, her voice filled with boundless emotion.

Thinking about that price, she felt numb all over, truly clueless as to how those people could afford such purchases.

But crabs crawl into burrows that fit them, and since she wasn’t one of those people, that’s why she couldn’t understand how they managed to buy it. If she were in their shoes, her desires might be the same as theirs.

"You could do part-time work on this website."

Ji Chicheng spoke nonchalantly, then turned his gaze to Ji Anning, seemingly waiting for her reaction.

Work part-time on that website? She hadn’t heard wrong, had she? Ji Anning turned her head and asked with uncertainty, "Uncle, are you saying that I should go do part-time work on the Beautiful City website?"

Ji Chicheng nodded, "Yes."

She wouldn’t doubt his words; he never spoke in vain. Whatever he said was always to the point—significant and valuable.

But she was puzzled as to why she would be asked to do part-time work on such a high-end website.

Ji Chicheng saw what Ji Anning was thinking, "I’m friends with the owner of Beautiful City, and they are currently looking to recruit someone to review customers, which would suit you."

Ji Anning was surprised, "Uncle, you know the eccentric owner of Beautiful City?"

The question came out almost instinctively.

After asking, she felt that with his status, his acquaintance with a few influential figures was nothing strange.

Ah, but for him to use his resources to help her, that was the odd part.

"Eccentric owner?"

Ji Chicheng frowned slightly, seemingly puzzled as to why Ji Anning would refer to the person in such a way.

"Isn’t he eccentric? And so pretentious, to boot, even discriminating among customers! I’ve never seen someone so capricious," Ji Anning pouted, her tone once again turning to complaint without her realizing.

Yang Danning had constantly nagged her about that necklace.

Upon hearing this, a faint smile played across Ji Chicheng’s lips, as he quirked an eyebrow lightly at Ji Anning, "If they accepted just any customer, would it still hold its value?"

"That’s also true," Ji Anning nodded.

It’s often the case with people; they disregard what’s easily gained and instead clamor for the elusive prizes.

But why is he helping me?

Ji Chicheng observed Ji Anning out of the corner of his eye, taking in her thoughts fully. When he deemed it appropriate, he suddenly said, "Compared to you potentially causing harm to yourself or others by being overexposed, I would think you’d be constantly on edge. A clever person would seize this opportunity."

He indirectly explained why he wanted to help her and sharply analyzed her situation and thoughts.

"I understand," Ji Anning replied, nodding, her eyes cast down somberly, feeling slightly unsettled.

Yes, he was right; it was a good opportunity, probably something a lot of people couldn’t even hope for.

But the one offering her this opportunity was Ji Chicheng, and the way he analyzed her from his lofty position made her feel like a clown without clothes, completely transparent to his gaze.
