Chapter 79: Chapter 80 Reluctant Cohabitation (Part 24)

As she spoke, she immediately lifted her foot and walked towards the opposite side of the road, not looking back.

"Anning..."

Yang Danning called Ji Anning’s name, seeing her steps so resolute, she felt troubled, wanted to follow, but couldn’t bear to leave Ji Chicheng.

It was rare for him to take the initiative to invite her to dinner.

"What’s with this darn girl." Yang Danning withdrew her gaze from Ji Anning and muttered discontentedly.

"She’s probably still angry," he said.

Ji Chicheng watched Ji Anning’s retreating figure get farther and farther, his lips curling in helplessness.

"Huh?"

The road was bustling with car traffic, making it quite noisy; Yang Danning did not hear clearly what Ji Chicheng said and turned her head, puzzled, to look at him.

Ji Chicheng moved his gaze unhurriedly to Yang Danning, skipping her question, "If you want to eat together, then come up."

Standing tall on the steps, his eyes slightly downcast, his cool black eyes and indifferent expression made Yang Danning feel as if she were looking up at the snow lotus on the mountains of Tianshan, atop those bitterly cold peaks.

Knowing full well it was out of reach, yet her heart fell even further for him.

Yang Danning stared at Ji Chicheng, lost in thought, and by the time she came to her senses, he had already turned and entered the restaurant.

She hurried to catch up.

...

Now that she had some free time in the evening, Ji Anning would finish evening self-study at school before going home when she didn’t have to play a supporting role.

As October approached, the evening breeze felt a bit chilly against the skin.

Ji Anning carried her leather schoolbag in front, wearing headphones, her legs crossed, leaning against the billboard at the bus stop, watching for the coming bus.

At this point, everyone who should be home was already home, and the bus she was waiting for was the last one of the day.

The bus slowly drove into the stop and came to a halt.

Ji Anning got on the bus, swiped her card, then looked for a seat. Besides the driver, there were just three people in the entire carriage.

She went to the very back, sitting by the window, resting her head against it, listening to music, watching the city nightscapes pass by.

Every day on her way home, her mood was always the same—oppressive, heavy, and resigned. She wished this journey would never have an end, that she could just keep going.

Without returning to a home that was as deep as a royal court, without having to pretend to love Ji Jingfeng to give her mom peace of mind...

Fatigue brought on drowsiness, and with a yawn, her eyelids grew heavier.

’Ugh...’

Ji Anning didn’t know how long she had slept, only that it was the most satisfying sleep she had had in a long time. She raised her arms and stretched comfortably.

Something wasn’t right!

Suddenly, she realized something was off and snapped awake.

Her heart did a ’thud’ at the same time her eyes were blindfolded.

She scrambled to get up, reaching out to pull off the blindfold on her eyes, and to her surprise, no one stopped her.

But everything was pitch black in front of her, and she couldn’t see anything.

Where was the "demon"? Why didn’t he stop her from taking off the blindfold? Had he fallen asleep?

As Ji Anning thought this, she reached out her hand to feel beside her.

"Ah..."

Suddenly, a large hand grabbed her arm and pulled her gently, causing her to fall down; her smooth and delicate face rested against a man’s bare chest.

The ’thump thump’ of the man’s heartbeat sounded as if it were in her mind.

She was stunned for a moment, then, regaining her composure, she hurriedly raised her head to look at the man’s face, but it was too dark to see anything.

She could only faintly sense his silhouette, which might as well have been her imagination.

"Let go of me, let go," she demanded.
