Path of the Unmentioned: The Missing Piece-Chapter 164: The Endgame [5]
Chapter 164: The Endgame [5]
The air cracked with heat and ice.
Commander Halric stood like a frozen mountain. His breaths slow and visible in the burning air.
Around him. Flames licked at the ground, rising from scorched soil.
But the cold radiating from his greatsword kept them at bay.
Steam hissed where fire met frost, turning the battlefield into a storm of clashing elements.
His blade was massive, glowing blue like frozen stars.
With every breath. The temperature around him dropped, frost creeping along the cracks in the earth.
Across from him. Rodric burned like a walking furnace.
His armor. Red and Gold. Seemed to glow faintly red, like coals hidden under steel.
A greatsword rested against his shoulder. Its blade constantly flickering with fire.
The crimson cloak behind him was torn, half-burned, flapping violently in the wind.
He exhaled, and the air shimmered around him. Heat poured from his skin. The very earth cracked beneath his boots.
Two commanders. Two extremes. Fire and ice. Fury and discipline.
Then, without a word. They charged.
Their swords met with a deafening crash. Mana exploded outward.
Ice spread in a sudden surge from Halric’s blade, freezing the ground around them in jagged crystals.
But Rodric’s flames struck just as hard. Melting the frost instantly and filling the air with thick, choking steam.
The ground shook under the force of their clash.
Halric pivoted and brought his sword down in a wide arc.
A sweeping wave of frost rushed forward, freezing the dirt solid in a glittering sheet.
Rodric answered with a brutal swing of his own. Smashing his flaming sword into the ice and shattering it in a blast of embers.
They moved like titans. Each swing heavy enough to crush steel. Each step shaking the battlefield.
Halric fought like a knight born from winter. Every move deliberate, precise, unshakable.
Rodric was chaos. A storm of rage and fire, his blade more like a wild beast than a weapon.
Neither gave ground.
Elsewhere on the battlefield, chaos unfolded.
At the base of the Eastern Cliffs. The Black Legion fought with gritted teeth.
Fire spells, arrows, and elemental strikes filled the air. Smoke billowed up into the sky, and the scent of mana, ash, and blood clung to the wind.
Kyle moved through it like lightning.
He ducked under a Red soldier’s sword and drove his fist into the man’s chest. Releasing a pulse of electricity.
The soldier stiffened, then collapsed.
Kyle turned, sword drawn.
Zalrielle hissed as it clashed with another enemy weapon. Sparks flew.
He twisted and knocked the attacker’s weapon aside. Then slashed the man’s side cleanly.
Cassian stood at his left, fire dancing in his palms.
"Move!" he shouted, hurling a fireball that burst between two Red Legion soldiers.
They screamed and stumbled as the fire spread. Kyle stepped in and finished them off with quick strikes.
"Left side!" Serena called.
Kyle didn’t look. He felt it. A wave of hostile mana approaching.
Serena raised her glaive. Electricity arced across the weapon as she spun it in a wide circle, then slammed it into the ground.
A wave of lightning surged out, striking a line of enemies in a brilliant purple flash.
They twitched, screamed, and dropped.
Some still got through. But Eleanora was already on them.
She moved like a shadow.
One blink she wasn’t there. The next, her estoc slipped through the throat of a Red soldier.
Her dark mana swirled around her feet, blending with the shadows. Her movements were smooth and silent, like a ghost dancing through battle.
A fireball came flying toward her. But she vanished into a swirl of shadows and reappeared behind the caster. Silent. Deadly.
He collapsed before he could scream.
Cedric fought near Kyle. His blade glowing faintly with white light. He parried a blow, then slashed horizontally.
A wave of light burst forward, cutting down two enemies.
They fought like they’d trained for this for years. But in truth, it had only been one brutal month in this cursed dungeon.
And then came a new threat.
A Red Legion soldier. Likely a Grade 2 Silver, possibly a captain. Stepped through the smoke.
His armor was heavier, trimmed in red, and his mana surged with intensity.
A jagged axe rested in one hand, and fire magic flared in the other.
His eyes locked onto Kyle and others with burning fury.
Kyle didn’t wait.
He stepped forward to meet him.
The captain roared and charged. His axe came down like a hammer. Kyle blocked with Zalrielle, lightning sparking on impact.
It rattled his bones, but he held.
"Now!" Kyle shouted.
Cassian unleashed a wall of fire behind the captain, cutting off escape. The heat surged, surrounding them.
The captain turned, ready to retreat. Just as Serena’s glaive slammed into his side.
A surge of lightning exploded across his armor. He staggered.
Kyle slashed upward. Ice ran along his blade, freezing the captain’s breastplate.
Cedric dashed in from the other side, slashing through the shoulder joint.
The captain howled.
Then, Eleanora appeared like death itself.
Her estoc slid cleanly beneath the captain’s arm, piercing the gap in his armor. One twist, and it was over.
The captain fell.
Around them. The battlefield still raged, but the tide was shifting.
Kyle glanced around.
Cassian wiped sweat from his brow. Serena reset her stance.
Cedric took a slow breath, sword steady. Eleanora vanished back into the smoke, already hunting again.
A month ago, they might’ve struggled.
But now?
They moved as one. A perfect rhythm.
Fire, lightning, light, shadow. Each of them covering the others, striking together. Falling back when needed.
Kyle knew any one of them could’ve handled that captain alone.
But why waste energy? They had discussed it beforehand. Fight smart, not hard.
Save their strength for the real battle.
This was no longer survival.
This was domination.
They had earned this strength. Through fire, blood, and endless war.
They had become a force to be feared.
And in the heart of it. Kyle stood strong. His eyes fixed on the battlefield ahead.
Because this fight wasn’t over yet.
And Kyle knew their real battle had only just begun.
