Chapter 210: Chapter 210 The More You Possess, The More You Fear Losing

"Don’t pull and tug in public places,"

Qiao En tried to break free from Zhou Jin’an’s large hand.

But he held on tight and refused to let go, no matter what.

The two young ladies at the reception stretched their necks to look this way, and seeing Qiao En’s cheeks flush with embarrassment, they secretly covered their mouths and giggled.

"You’re not short of that little money, so why slave away like this?"

Zhou Jin’an’s expression was cold, and his words carried a hint of anger.

"This is not being troublesome, this is work,"

Qiao En pouted to emphasize.

Zhou Jin’an scratched the tip of her nose with his hand, "Work, work, all you think about is work. What about your health? Look at it now, it’s almost eleven o’clock at night, and you haven’t even had dinner. Aren’t you hungry?"

Qiao En hadn’t felt hungry, but now that Zhou Jin’an mentioned it, she could hear her stomach playing the Empty Fort Strategy.

She revealed a simple-minded smile, "I really am hungry. How about I treat you to a late-night snack later?"

The late-night snack Qiao En talked about was just street food.

Zhou Jin’an indulgently pulled her closer into his embrace, "From now on, you’re not allowed to eat late-night snacks, it’s unhealthy."

"But I’m hungry,"

Qiao En acted coquettishly.

"I brought you dinner, it’s in the car."

"Really?"

Qiao En was overjoyed.

She found that Zhou Jin’an was becoming more and more like a big warm man.

She tiptoed and kissed his cheek.

"My husband is getting more and more attentive."

"That’s true,"

Zhou Jin’an was proud and coy.

"This side needs a kiss too," he pointed with his hand to his other cheek.

Qiao En stretched her neck to kiss him, but he playfully tiptoed to tease her, just as she was about to reach him, he rose a bit higher.

"Zhou Jin’an, you’re playing dirty."

Qiao En complained.

Zhou Jin’an smiled smugly, "Alright, I won’t tease you anymore, I’m squatting down now, hurry up and kiss me."

"I don’t want to anymore."

Qiao En pretended to be angry and turned her face away in refusal.

"En’en, I’m begging you, please kiss it, okay? I was wrong,"

Zhou Jin’an grabbed Qiao En’s arm, starting to beg for forgiveness.

Watching the once stern and serious cadre now acting so down-to-earth, Qiao En couldn’t help but secretly delight inside.

"Do you really know what you did wrong?"

"I do,"

Zhou Jin’an answered like a child who had committed a mistake.

To prevent Zhou Jin’an from teasing her again, she wrapped her arms around his neck, and just as her lips were about to touch Zhou Jin’an’s cheek, he suddenly kissed her.

"Mm~"

Qiao En struggled to push him away, but Zhou Jin’an wouldn’t allow it.

As the elevator descended floor by floor, he captured her lips, indulging in the taste with deep affection.

Suddenly, the elevator "dinged", and stopped at the ground floor lobby.

Qiao En hadn’t had the chance to separate from Zhou Jin’an when the elevator doors opened.

Outside, Zhou Chucheng was holding a phone and making a call.

It was just for a moment, but he froze in shock.

Qiao En, blushing furiously, quickly pushed Zhou Jin’an away.

"Dir... Director Zhou,"

Qiao En began to stutter.

Zhou Jin’an glanced suspiciously at Qiao En, then towards Zhou Chucheng.

Zhou Chucheng’s expression was not very calm, but he pretended to be unfazed, though his gaze landed on Zhou Jin’an.

"Big brother, you’re here!"

"If you can come, can’t I?"

Zhou Jin’an shot him an annoyed look.

He wrapped his arm around Qiao En, who was hidden by his side, and walked straight past Zhou Chucheng.

In the Maybach, Qiao En held the lunch box and ate voraciously, her head buried in the food.

Zhou Jin’an knew she was Zhou Chucheng’s subordinate, but he did not ask a single question, which set her heart aflutter.

Despite not having done anything guilty, her heart wouldn’t stop pounding.

"Eat slower, don’t choke,"

Zhou Jin’an watched Qiao En with an intense gaze as she ate rapidly, exhibiting a wolfish hunger.

"Mm,"

Qiao En made a muffled sound, continuing to stuff her mouth with food.

It wasn’t until Qiao En had finished all the food that Zhou Jin’an spoke.

On the way back, the car interior was very quiet.

Qiao En kept silent, and so did Zhou Jin’an.

However, when the car stopped in the courtyard of Chu Garden, Zhou Jin’an called out to Qiao En.

"En’en, you should resign."

Qiao En’s hand had just touched the car door when she suddenly froze.

The words she least wanted to hear, she had heard.

She didn’t look at Zhou Jin’an, her slender fingers slowly curling.

"You know what my relationship with Zhou Chucheng is, I don’t want you to get involved."

Zhou Jin’an provided the reason.

"Just because he’s your half-brother by the same father?"

Qiao En retorted.

Zhou Jin’an let out a long sigh and reached out to pull Qiao En’s arm, but she dodged away.

"You’re my wife, I don’t want any misunderstandings."

"What misunderstandings?"

Qiao En blinked her dark eyes at Zhou Jin’an.

His lips formed a thin line, as if he wanted to say something, but the words just didn’t come out.

He didn’t speak, but Qiao En did.

"Are you afraid others will find out and laugh at you?"

"It’s not what you think," he replied.

"Whether it is or it isn’t what I think, although I am your wife, I am first and foremost myself. I can distinguish between public and private matters, and I believe your brother can do the same, so please respect my choice," Qiao En said firmly.

Having said that, she opened the car door and got out.

She was tired and went straight to the bedroom.

Zhou Jin’an sat alone in the car for quite some time before he took out his mobile phone, intending to call Zhou Chucheng, but he never dialed the number.

The more he possessed, the more he feared losing.

He couldn’t explain why, but whenever he saw Qiao En with those related to him, he felt particularly insecure, always worried that something would happen to her.

This anxiety made him lose control.

By the time he returned to the bedroom, Qiao En had already fallen asleep.

He took a shower, lay down beside her, but he couldn’t sleep at all.

That nagging worry lingered in his heart.

Early the next day, Qiao En got up from bed.

Sister Rong was still in the kitchen preparing breakfast when Qiao En, already dressed, came downstairs.

"Madam, breakfast will be ready shortly, have some before you leave," Sister Rong insisted.

Qiao En entered the kitchen, grabbed two steamed buns, and left.

"I’m in a hurry, I have to go," she said, hurrying out like a gust of wind.

After Zhou Jin’an came out from the washroom, Qiao En had already left the courtyard.

Looking stern, he came down from the second floor to find that Sister Rong had already served breakfast on the table.

"Master, what kind of job is Madam doing? She’s so busy she doesn’t even have time for breakfast," Sister Rong muttered.

Zhou Jin’an didn’t respond. He simply took out his phone and ordered a take-out breakfast for Qiao En to the address from yesterday.

As soon as Qiao En arrived at the company, the receptionist called out to her.

"Assistant Xu, your breakfast is here."

Qiao En was taken aback but still approached.

"Assistant Xu, your husband is really considerate," another receptionist remarked with admiration.

Qiao En thanked her and hurried back to her office.

She had eaten the two buns on the way, not touching the breakfast Zhou Jin’an had ordered for her.

A company-wide meeting was scheduled for the morning, and although Qiao En had prepared everything, she needed to go over it once more.

At eight o’clock, Zhou Chucheng arrived.

Qiao En handed him the work schedule she had prepared.

Zhou Chucheng took it, skimmed through it briefly.

"You’re very professional," he complimented her, and then, placing the schedule on the table, he looked seriously at Qiao En.

"Assistant Xu, I have something to ask you," he said.

Qiao En’s heart tightened, "Director Zhou, please ask."

Zhou Chucheng took a slight breath, "You know there’s tension between my brother and me, are you still willing to be my assistant?"

When he asked this, Qiao En felt calmer.

"Does Director Zhou wish for me to resign proactively?" she inquired.

Zhou Chucheng shook his head, "That’s not what I mean. You are my brother’s wife, and my sister-in-law, it may have been inconsiderate of me to have you work as my assistant, and I’m worried it may put you in a difficult position with him."

"Director Zhou, I can separate personal from professional matters. If you have concerns, I can leave at once," said Qiao En, her stance clear.

Her attitude surprised Zhou Chucheng.

He squinted his eyes, a look of approval on his face, and suddenly he laughed.

"I was overthinking it. Go on to work!"
