Plunder-Chapter 320: A Parent’s Love is the Deepest
At the Lin family house, Mrs. Jia was cooking in the kitchen when Lin Bohan received a message from Lin Youyou.
"Take your time cooking, Youyou still has stuff to handle and hasn’t finished yet, so our lunch today will be late."
Lin Bohan hurried in to report the news.
"What’s going on? Didn’t we agree to have lunch together at noon?"
Mrs. Jia asked anxiously.
"Probably because she arrived late and it was crowded, delaying things. Let’s not ask too many questions, asking too much annoys the kids. You should take a break, and we’ll wait a bit longer before cooking."
Lin Bohan and Mrs. Jia ended up waiting until 2:30 p.m.
He hadn’t seen any messages from Lin Youyou but unexpectedly came across a post Lin Youyou had shared on her social circle.
"Go ahead and start cooking, the certificate has been collected, it looks like they’ll be back soon."
Lin Bohan’s face lit up with joy.
Mrs. Jia urged, "Call Youyou and tell them to come back quickly."
Lin Bohan pushed up his glasses on the bridge of his nose, "What’s there to ask about? Let’s just start cooking, and we can ask once it’s ready."
Talking it over, the old couple hurried to the kitchen.
Not long after Lin Youyou posted on her social circle, Qiao En called.
"Youyou, congratulations to you both!"
Only then did Lin Youyou finally smile happily, "Young Madam, thank you and Director Zhou."
"I’ll contact Jin’an, and let’s all celebrate together in a bit."
Qiao En suggested.
"Sure!"
Lin Youyou agreed immediately.
Soon, they arranged a place—a fancy Western restaurant.
"Honey, should we give your parents a call?"
Cheng Lu asked.
Completely enveloped in happiness, Lin Youyou replied, "No need, I sent them a message. If it’s early enough this evening, we’ll go over then."
The two got into the car and headed straight to the agreed-upon place.
From afternoon tea till the end of dinner, Lin Youyou didn’t check her phone.
What she didn’t know was that Mrs. Jia had prepared lunch and made several video calls to her.
She was even less aware that Mrs. Jia and Lin Bohan hadn’t eaten anything, sitting by the table waiting until the evening.
At 10 p.m., everyone dispersed.
Cheng Lu glanced at the time and asked, "Should we go check in with your parents? We got our marriage certificate today; we should probably stop by."
Lin Youyou smiled and hooked her arm around Cheng Lu’s neck, "Let’s go tomorrow, it’s too late today, and we still need to go to the hospital."
It was only when they got to the hospital that Lin Youyou noticed the message from Mrs. Jia.
She casually replied, "Mom, sorry, just finished meeting with friends, now at the hospital. We’ll come home tomorrow."
Mrs. Jia didn’t respond to the message.
But upon seeing Lin Youyou’s message, she felt very disheartened.
She stood up and began to carry the plates back to the kitchen one by one.
"What? Isn’t Youyou coming after all?"
Lin Bohan asked in surprise.
As Mrs. Jia carried the dishes, she slowly said, "Never mind, it’s too late now."
Lin Bohan heaved a heavy sigh.
For some reason, his heart felt extremely heavy.
The next morning, Beibei was discharged from the hospital.
After everything was packed, it was nearly ten o’clock.
There was a matter at work, and upon receiving a call from Zhou Jin’an, Cheng Lu immediately went to the office.
Chen sister holding the child, Lin Youyou driving, they rushed to their residence.
Halfway there, Lin Bohan called.
"Dad, what’s up? I’m driving right now,"
Lin Youyou said.
Lin Bohan had been holding back his anger, and he couldn’t contain it any longer.
"Youyou, your mom has been busy preparing that meal since yesterday morning, and you didn’t come back, do you know how disappointed she is?"
"Didn’t I send you a message?"
Lin Youyou said irritably.
The car passed by an intersection, and as she was looking at the rearview mirror, she didn’t notice that the tone of her speech was off.
"Sent a message? Youyou, we’re your parents, and marriage is a big deal— the whole family needs to celebrate together. But what did you do? You got the certificate and forgot all about your parents to go celebrate with friends. We’re old and no longer important to you, right?"
Lin Bohan’s tone was harsh, and it was only then that Lin Youyou realized her parents were angry.
"Dad, please don’t be angry. I’m coming back right now."
She turned the car around and headed straight for the Lin family’s home.
Halfway there, she called Cheng Lu.
"Husband, my parents are mad. How busy are you with work? If you have time, could you come home with me?"
Cheng Lu had just finished his work. "Don’t worry, I’m on my way now."
Lin Youyou arrived at the entrance of the neighborhood and waited for about ten minutes. Then, Cheng Lu arrived.
"It’s all my fault. I was so careless yesterday. My parents were waiting for us all day, and they didn’t even eat. What should we do now? They are really upset."
Lin Youyou was terribly worried.
Cheng Lu furrowed his brows tightly; he had just been accepted by Lin Youyou’s parents, but no sooner had they registered their marriage than he had upset his in-laws.
"Let’s go up first."
Cheng Lu knocked on the door, and after a while, Lin Bohan came to open it.
When the door opened, he just glanced at Cheng Lu and Lin Youyou with disappointment, then turned and walked inside.
"Dad, I’m sorry. We were just too excited yesterday, so we went out with friends."
Lin Youyou tried to explain, but Lin Bohan didn’t want to hear it at that moment.
"If you want to explain, go explain it to your mom." He grabbed the remote control, his gaze fixed on the television.
The bedroom door was ajar, and Mrs. Jia was sulking.
Lin Youyou stuck out her tongue and said to Cheng Lu, "You keep Dad company and watch TV for a while. I’ll go apologize to her."
She pushed the door open and entered the bedroom.
Mrs. Jia had her back to the door, avoiding her gaze. Lin Youyou walked around to face her.
"Mom, I’m sorry. It was all my fault yesterday. I shouldn’t have forgotten about you after getting the certificate."
She apologized, but Mrs. Jia ignored her.
Lin Youyou then played her trump card, "Mom, I want to discuss something with you. I’m thinking about moving back home, would you agree to that?"
At these words, Mrs. Jia’s eyes suddenly opened wide.
"Move back home?"
Ever since Lin Youyou had started working, only she and Lin Bohan had lived in the house, staring at each other until they couldn’t stand it anymore.
"Yeah, Cheng Lu said you guys are getting older, and living together, we could look out for each other. You know I’m not good at cooking, and although Cheng Lu can, my stomach only recognizes your food. Mom, I’m hungry. Do you have any dumplings left? I want a bowl."
Lin Youyou cooed to Mrs. Jia just like she used to.
Though still with a stern face, her anger had mostly dissipated.
"You never eat properly, and you’re a mother now. From today, you must learn to cook properly."
Mrs. Jia was stern but indulgently went into the kitchen to hurry and cook dumplings.
Still the usual two bowls, one for Lin Youyou, another for Cheng Lu.
"Mom, thank you," Cheng Lu said sincerely.
Mrs. Jia didn’t respond, turning back into the bedroom, but she soon came out, clutching two big red envelopes.
"Cheng Lu, Youyou, this is a little something from your dad and me. Now that you have your own little family, we don’t have much savings, but this is a little something from us."
She handed the two big red envelopes to Cheng Lu and Lin Youyou.
Cheng Lu quickly tried to refuse, "Mom and Dad, you don’t need to be so formal. Keep the money for yourselves."
Lin Bohan pulled out a red envelope and forcefully handed it to Cheng Lu. "I know you don’t need the money, but this is a small token from us as parents, you must accept it."
Lin Youyou was already crying a river of tears.
Tears fell from Mrs. Jia’s eyes as she embraced Lin Youyou. "Silly girl, such a joyful occasion, why cry? If you think this money’s too little, should your dad and I give you our retirement cards?"
At this, Lin Youyou couldn’t help but laugh through her tears.
"Alright, you two better eat while it’s hot and get some sleep. I’m going to cuddle my great-grandson."
Mrs. Jia winked, and Lin Bohan also stood up, each picking up a child, happily heading towards the door.
"Where are Mom and Dad going?"
Cheng Lu asked suspiciously.
"To show off, of course."
Soon, Mrs. Jia’s loud voice resonated from downstairs.
"Right, these are my grandchildren, inheriting all the fine traits of their parents, twins, not something just anyone can have. My daughter, she’s really outstanding, and my son-in-law, he’s something else..."
