Plunder-Chapter 319: Successfully Obtained the Certificate
Cheng Lu was shocked beyond measure.
"How did my household register end up with you?"
His household register had always been kept in the bag he carried with him.
Back then, he had been ready to marry Lin Youyou at any moment, but after those incidents, he had forgotten about the household register.
"What? You want to back out?"
Lin Youyou pouted but looked seriously at Cheng Lu.
"If you want to back out now, it’s actually not too late. I can give the household register back to you."
Cheng Lu remained silent.
He looked at Lin Youyou with complex emotions, "Youyou, I really want to go get our marriage certificate with you, but marriage is not just a matter of two people, it also concerns two families. My parents are no longer here, your parents will become my parents, and without their blessings, I cannot take away their beloved daughter."
Lin Youyou knew all too well that Cheng Lu wasn’t decisive.
She let out a long sigh, "You really know how to dampen the mood. Are you that afraid of getting married? Don’t you understand what my parents’ attitude is?"
Cheng Lu nodded, "I understand, that’s why I think we should go home first, get your parents’ consent, and then go to the civil affairs bureau to register our marriage."
Lin Youyou glanced at the time, "But it’s already past eight, we’ll have to wait in a long line if we go late."
Cheng Lu stepped forward to take Lin Youyou’s hand, "It doesn’t matter, good things are worth waiting for, and I’m willing to wait."
"Alright, then let’s go home now."
To love someone is not only to love their highlights but also to love their flaws.
Cheng Lu was very decisive and straightforward in everything he did, except when it came to matters of the heart, where he was excessively indecisive.
But it was this very indecisiveness that showed his sense of responsibility and commitment.
Lin Youyou locked her arm with Cheng Lu’s, and they left the house together.
As the car was about to arrive at the Lin Family’s neighborhood, Cheng Lu stopped the car in front of a store.
"Wait for me in the car for a while, I’m going to buy something."
Lin Youyou immediately grabbed him, "Brother Lu, there’s no need, my parents don’t care about these formalities."
But Cheng Lu insisted, "How can that be? They’re entrusting their wonderful daughter to me; I must express my sincerity to them."
Lin Youyou knew it was no use to oppose him, so she respected Cheng Lu’s decision.
Before long, he came out carrying a bunch of valuable gifts.
The two of them went upstairs, and at the door, Lin Youyou raised her hand to knock on the door.
Inside the house, Mrs. Jia and Lin Bohan had just finished breakfast, one leaning on the sofa watching sports news, and the other tidying up the kitchen.
When the knock on the door sounded, Lin Bohan got up to open it, surprised to see Lin Youyou arm in arm with Cheng Lu at the door.
"Dad."
Cheng Lu spoke first, his face full of smiles.
"Dad," Lin Youyou also called out.
They had seen each other just yesterday, but now, she felt a rush of several emotions.
Lin Bohan was taken aback, then stepped aside, "Come in, have you two eaten? Why bring so much stuff when you come home?"
"Youyou’s mom, Youyou and Cheng Lu are home,"
Lin Bohan called out to Mrs. Jia in the kitchen.
Mrs. Jia was still bustling about in the kitchen, her back to the room, and it was clear she was still angry.
Lin Bohan gestured to Lin Youyou, signaling her to apologize to Mrs. Jia.
Lin Youyou slowly walked towards the kitchen, coming to a stop behind Mrs. Jia.
"Mom."
She called out, and Mrs. Jia’s back trembled slightly.
"Have you had breakfast? I made dumplings, do you want a bowl?"
Mrs. Jia said indifferently.
"I’ve eaten," Lin Youyou said in a low voice.
But Mrs. Jia acted as if she hadn’t heard, heading straight to the fridge to take out packaged dumplings, then set a pot to boil water and dropped the dumplings in when the water was boiling.
Her movements were nimble as she busied herself at the stove.
The dumplings were ready, and she ladled out two bowls.
"You serve yourself,"
Mrs. Lin’s tone was still indifferent.
But Lin Youyou knew that Mrs. Lin had forgiven her.
"Okay, Mom,"
She picked up a bowl of dumplings and brought them out, while Mrs. Jia placed the other bowl directly in front of Cheng Lu.
"The chopsticks are in the kitchen, get them yourself. If it’s not enough, I will cook some more,"
Her face was stern, but her words were quite gentle.
"Mom, please sit down, I’ll get them,"
Cheng Lu quickly got up.
Lin Bohan, sipping tea, showed a look of approval on his face.
"Your mother prepared them early in the morning; she wouldn’t let me eat them, planning to bring them to you at the hospital later."
"Why do you talk so much, would anyone take you for mute if you kept quiet?"
Mrs. Jia chided.
Lin Youyou felt incredibly warm in her heart. She put down the dumpling she was holding and grasped Mrs. Jia’s hand, "Mom, I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said so many excessive things to you. Can you please not be mad at me anymore?"
There are no overnight feuds between mother and daughter.
Mrs. Jia withdrew her hand, "Eat them while they’re hot, dumplings don’t taste good once they’re cold."
She stood up and headed back to the kitchen, "I’ll make your favorite braised pork knuckle and chestnut chicken for lunch, you should eat a lot."
Cheng Lu also felt warm inside. Mrs. Jia might seem fierce, but she truly cherished Lin Youyou from the bottom of her heart.
"Mom, don’t busy yourself anymore, we’ll go out for lunch."
Cheng Lu got up and said.
Mrs. Jia immediately objected, "Since we’re family, we should eat at home. What business do we have eating out?"
"Mom, Youyou and I have decided, today we’re going to get our marriage certificate."
Lin Youyou also stood up.
She had made up her mind about this matter, regardless of whether Mrs. Jia and Lin Bohan agreed, she was going to do it alone.
Mrs. Jia’s back stiffened for a moment, but she didn’t utter a word.
It was Lin Bohan who spoke up, nodding his head, "Hmm, if you two have decided, then go. You’re adults now, capable of being responsible for your actions. Your mom and I, from the bottom of our hearts, bless you."
"Thank you, Dad."
Cheng Lu bowed deeply to Lin Bohan.
"Cheng, Youyou is our only daughter, the kind we cherish so much we’re afraid she might melt in our mouths. I trust you’ll be good to her. She can be a bit of a handful, being the man, please be more tolerant of her. If she does anything wrong, you can talk to us about it. We’re her parents; we can educate her."
"Dad, rest assured, I’ll definitely be good to Youyou."
Lin Youyou’s eyes were already red with emotion.
After defying her parents for so long, finally getting their blessing filled her heart with bittersweet feelings.
"Mom, thank you for entrusting Youyou to me. I swear, I’ll protect her with my life, spoil her, and love her. I will also treat you like my own parents and honor you."
Cheng Lu walked into the kitchen, addressing Mrs. Jia.
She didn’t turn around, clutching a rag and ceaselessly wiping the stove.
Lin Bohan stood up, patted Cheng Lu on the shoulder, "It’s getting late, you two should get going. Your mom and I will wait at home for you to come back for lunch."
Cheng Lu nodded emphatically.
He wrapped an arm around Lin Youyou’s shoulder, and they walked out the door.
The moment the door closed, Lin Bohan’s eyes reddened instantly.
"Stop crying now, our daughter has grown up, and it was inevitable that she would get married. I’ll help you today; we’ll cook together."
Lin Bohan said as he rolled up his sleeves and walked into the kitchen.
Mrs. Jia’s face was streaked with tears, but she forced herself not to cry out loud.
"Is our daughter really going to be married off?" She couldn’t hold it in any longer and burst into sobbing.
Lin Bohan walked over, patting Mrs. Jia on the shoulder. She leaned on his shoulder, letting the tears fall freely.
Cheng Lu and Lin Youyou drove immediately to the civil affairs bureau.
The queue for marriage registration that morning wasn’t long, and it was soon their turn.
Just as they were about to be served, the morning work hours came to an end.
The staff member stood up and apologized to them, "Sorry, could you please come back in the afternoon?"
Lin Youyou was anxious all of a sudden, "Can you please make an exception for us? We’re really short on time."
Mrs. Jia and Lin Bohan were waiting at home for them to come back for lunch; she didn’t want to return before getting the certificate.
The staff member shook their head, showing no flexibility.
Lin Youyou was nearly in tears with urgency, but Cheng Lu stepped forward, saying softly, "It’s okay, Youyou, we’ll come back in the afternoon."
"No, I’m not going back."
Lin Youyou was stubborn.
If they went back without the certificate, what if something changed?
"Then I’ll call Mom and Dad, and we won’t go back for lunch."
Cheng Lu took out his phone, about to make the call, but Lin Youyou stopped him.
"Don’t tell them, I will."
She sent a message to Lin Bohan.
The civil affairs bureau was closed for lunch.
Lin Youyou and Cheng Lu waited in the rest area.
"What would you like to eat? I’ll go buy it," Cheng Lu offered.
Lin Youyou shook her head, "I don’t feel like eating anything."
He stood up, went out to buy coffee and some pastries. Lin Youyou only drank the coffee but did not touch the pastries.
The wait felt excruciatingly long; every minute and every second seemed to stretch out.
Finally, two o’clock came.
Lin Youyou was the first to rush to the front.
Even though she had done her homework and knew all the procedures, the excitement she felt in the moment was still uncontrollable.
Fifteen minutes later, Lin Youyou clutched two bright red booklets in her hand.
"Husband, we’re also ’certified’ professionals now!"
Lin Youyou took a photo and immediately posted it to her social circle.
