Chapter 476 - 63: Brock’s Thoughts
"It's really a Sudowoodo!" Brock exclaimed, his excitement clear despite his perpetually squinted eyes barely widening.
His enthusiasm was evident—he had nearly given up on finding Sudowoodo, and now one had unexpectedly appeared before them.
"Was it drawn by the aroma of the food?" Brock speculated, quickly analyzing the situation. It made sense; the enticing scent from their meal preparation had likely lured Sudowoodo out of hiding.
"What flavor does Sudowoodo like best?" Brock's mind raced as he sifted through his extensive knowledge of Pokémon preferences.
"Pomeg and Nomel Berries are favorites, but the real key is Passho Berry," he recalled.
"Long-term consumption of Passho Berry enhances resistance to Water-type moves—something crucial for a Rock-type Pokémon like Sudowoodo, which naturally fears Water-type attacks."
His eyes lit up with determination. "Ash, Misty, please keep an eye on Sudowoodo. Don't let it leave!" Brock exclaimed before turning back to his cooking gear.
"Got it," Ash replied with a nod. He and Misty focused on Sudowoodo, who stood at the edge of the forest.
The Pokémon appeared anxious but hesitant to leave, clearly tempted by the aromas wafting through the air.
Brock, meanwhile, worked with precision and speed. His culinary skills shone as he prepared a dish designed to appeal to Sudowoodo's tastes.
The air filled with a rich and unique fragrance, a mix of savory and fruity notes that even caught Ash and Misty's attention.
Sudowoodo, hidden among the trees, sniffed the air. Its eyes widened in surprise as it caught a whiff of the enticing aroma.
The Pokémon paced nervously, torn between its natural wariness of humans and its growing desire for the food.
Brock, noticing this, carefully placed a dish at the forest's edge and stepped back several meters. "Don't worry, I mean no harm. This is for you," he said gently, his tone calm and inviting.
Sudowoodo hesitated for a moment, eyeing Brock warily, but the smell proved too irresistible.
It cautiously emerged from the woods, inching closer to the food. Finally, it picked up a small piece, sniffed it, and took a tentative bite.
Sudowoodo's eyes lit up as the flavors exploded in its mouth. It quickly dove into the dish, devouring the meal with enthusiasm.
Brock watched with satisfaction as Sudowoodo finished the food and leaned back, visibly content.
"See? It liked it," Misty said with a smile.
Brock nodded. "It's a start."
Taking advantage of the moment, Brock slowly approached Sudowoodo. However, as he neared, the Pokémon tensed up, retreating a few steps into the forest.
"It's okay," Brock said softly. "I just want to be friends."
But Sudowoodo wasn't convinced. It glanced at Brock, then at the forest, and turned to leave.
"Pikachu, can you block its path?" Ash said quickly.

"Pika!" Pikachu zipped forward, using its agility to intercept Sudowoodo.
"Sudo-woodo!" Sudowoodo cried out, startled, as it stopped in its tracks. It now stood frozen between Pikachu and Brock.
"Let it go, Ash," Brock said after a moment of hesitation. "Sudowoodo doesn't want to come with us."
"What? After all this effort?" Misty exclaimed.
Brock shook his head. "It's not about catching every Pokémon I meet. Sudowoodo loves its freedom and this natural environment. Forcing it to leave would only make it unhappy."
Ash frowned but nodded in understanding. "Pikachu, let it pass."
Pikachu stepped aside, and Sudowoodo looked back at Brock. It hesitated for a moment before nodding in gratitude and disappearing into the forest.
"It's tough to let go, but you made the right call," Ash said, placing a hand on Brock's shoulder.
"Yeah," Brock replied, smiling faintly. "This experience reminded me that not every Pokémon is meant to live alongside humans. Sometimes, respecting their wishes is the best way to show you care."
As they packed up and resumed their journey, Brock felt a renewed sense of purpose. His bond with Pokémon wasn't about capturing them all but understanding and respecting their individuality. It was a lesson he would carry with him for the rest of their travels.
