Chapter 479 - 66: Hitmontop

"Wait a minute, Sir! I never agreed to be your disciple or anything like that," Ash protested, waving his hands frantically. The thought of his journey ending here made him uneasy.

"What? Didn't you just say you wanted to be my disciple?" The old man's tone shifted to mock surprise.

He glanced at his granddaughter, who looked both skeptical and curious, before pulling Ash aside for a private word.

"Listen, just pretend to agree for now. I'm only doing this to motivate my granddaughter. She's lost her way. With her current training methods, she'll never stand a chance against Ma's Martial Arts School," the old man whispered urgently.

"Ma's Martial Arts School?" Ash repeated, intrigued. Though he had never heard of it before, the old man's pleading eyes softened his resolve. Finally, Ash gave a reluctant nod.

"Fine. I'll play along."

The old man straightened up, his demeanor calm and composed once more. "Chigusa," he said to Chigusa, his granddaughter, "this young man is now my new disciple and your junior. He will inherit the Kenzo-Ryu style in the future."

Chigusa's jaw dropped. "Grandpa! Are you saying you'd rather let a stranger inherit this gym than me?"

The old man chuckled, deliberately ignoring her outburst. "You simply lack the material to inherit Kenzo-Ryu."

"Why?" Chigusa clenched her fists, her frustration evident. She had assumed her grandfather's criticisms were empty words, but his actions now felt like a crushing betrayal.

"Your so-called 'fighting dance' is nothing more than a flashy performance. True fighting techniques are leagues beyond what you practice," the old man said bluntly, his voice carrying the weight of authority.

"Nonsense! My fighting dance is effective, even in real battles!" Chigusa shot back, anger simmering in her voice.

"It's useless," the old man retorted, shaking his head dismissively. "If you're so confident, then prove it. Defeat your junior here and show me that your techniques are more than just a fancy show."

Chigusa's eyes burned with determination as she turned to Ash. "If I defeat him, you'll acknowledge me as the rightful heir, won't you?"

The old man nodded. "If you can win, then I'll concede. But until then, your so-called fighting skills are nothing but empty spectacle."

"Fine!" Chigusa declared, her gaze fixed on Ash. "If I have to defeat him and his Pokémon to prove myself, so be it!"

Ash sighed heavily, feeling trapped in the old man's scheme. But seeing the desperation in the elder's eyes, he reluctantly agreed to the challenge.

As they walked to the battle arena, Misty and Brock exchanged concerned glances.

"Ash, are you really planning to inherit this martial arts gym?" Misty asked nervously.

"Of course not!" Ash exclaimed, exasperated. He quickly explained the old man's plan to motivate Chigusa by using him as a catalyst.

Hearing this, Misty and Brock both sighed in relief.

At the arena, Brock stepped forward as the referee. "The match between Chigusa and Ash will now begin! Each trainer may use one Pokémon. The battle ends when one Pokémon is unable to continue fighting."

"Hitmontop, let's show them what we're made of!" Chigusa declared confidently, sending out her trusted Pokémon.

Ash, meanwhile, hesitated briefly. He considered using Lapras but ultimately looked down at Pikachu, who nodded in understanding.

"Alright, Pikachu. It's your turn!"

"Pika pika!" Pikachu leapt forward into the arena, landing gracefully.

Chigusa smirked. "A Pikachu? You're not even using a Fighting-Type? Fine by me! This will be easier than I thought."

Neither Chigusa nor her grandfather seemed to recognize Ash or Pikachu. Living in the secluded mountains, they were unaware of the rising star from Pallet Town who had already made waves in the Pokémon world.

"Come on, Hitmontop! Start with Mach Punch!" Chigusa commanded, her voice full of conviction.

"Hitmontop!" Hitmontop cried, charging forward with a fist glowing crimson as it gathered Fighting energy. The Pokémon blurred into an afterimage as it accelerated toward Pikachu.

"Pikachu, counter with Iron Tail!" Ash called out calmly, unfazed by the display.

"Pika-chaa!" Pikachu's tail gleamed with a metallic sheen as it swung forward with precision.

The two Pokémon collided in a flash of light. Despite Hitmontop's speed, Pikachu's Iron Tail landed with crushing force, sending Hitmontop flying across the arena.

"Bang!" The impact echoed loudly, and Hitmontop tumbled over ten meters before skidding to a stop, barely within the bounds of the arena.

"What?!" Chigusa gasped in disbelief. Even her grandfather, Kenzo, looked astonished.

Pikachu hadn't even used its full strength—only about half. Yet that was enough to overpower Hitmontop, which was supposed to be Chigusa's strongest Pokémon.

"Hitmontop, get up!" Chigusa urged, her voice tinged with desperation.

Hitmontop staggered to its feet, wobbling unsteadily. It was clear that the Pokémon was nearing its limit, its breathing labored and its stance shaky.

Chigusa clenched her fists, unwilling to give up. "We're not done yet! Hitmontop, use Triple Kick!"

"Pikachu, Thunderbolt!" Ash responded swiftly.

Lightning crackled around Pikachu, and with a fierce cry, it unleashed a powerful Thunderbolt.

The electricity surged across the battlefield, overwhelming Hitmontop before it could complete its attack.

Ash sighed, relieved that the battle was easy. He glanced at Pikachu, who smiled proudly.

"Looks like I got caught up in another mess," Ash muttered under his breath, but deep down, he couldn't help but feel a bit of pride for Pikachu's display of skill.

"It seems you still have much to learn, Chigusa," the old man said firmly. "Your flashy moves might entertain an audience, but they lack the substance needed for real battles. Take this as a lesson."
