Chapter 484 - 71: Hello Suzy

"Speaking of which... isn't this more like a beauty pageant?" Ash muttered as they walked through the bustling streets of the City of Bonitaville, where the so-called Breeder Competition was taking place.

He observed the elegantly dressed Pokémon and their extravagant displays, struggling to reconcile this with his understanding of a breeder's role.

"Aren't breeders supposed to use various methods to cultivate Pokémon's abilities and well-being? Making them look pretty is part of it, sure, but this feels... odd," he said, watching trainers primping their Pokémon.

"To be precise, this isn't really a breeder competition," Brock clarified. "It's a beauty contest."

Ash raised an eyebrow. "Beauty contest?"

Misty chimed in, "Yeah, it's less about battling or training and more about showcasing a Pokémon's natural charm and unique traits.

Contestants try to enhance their Pokémon's aesthetics and personality, making them unforgettable.

It's a crowd-driven competition, though. If your Pokémon isn't naturally attractive or memorable, even clever accessorizing won't help much."

Ash sighed in disappointment. "I was hoping to learn something new about breeding techniques. Guess this isn't the right place for that."

In contrast, Misty's eyes sparkled as she admired the Pokémon around her. "I think it's fascinating! Look at that Oddish," she said, pointing at a nearby trainer's Pokémon.

The Oddish had its natural cuteness amplified by a pink bow tied to one of its leaves, along with small, colorful accessories. However, Ash grimaced. "Pink and green? That just looks... off."

"Not every choice is a good one," Misty admitted, "but some trainers have a real knack for this. Look at that Roselia—it's stunning!"

Meanwhile, Brock was scanning the crowd intently. Unlike Misty, he wasn't marveling at the Pokémon—he was looking for Suzy.

"Didn't you agree on a meeting spot?" Misty asked, noticing Brock's restless behavior.

"She only sent an email saying she'd participate, but she didn't reply to my follow-up," Brock admitted, sounding disheartened.

Ash and Misty exchanged knowing glances. They both silently acknowledged that Brock's hopes for Suzy might not go as planned.

"Vulpix," Brock said, addressing the Pokémon nestled in his arms, "we're going to see Suzy soon. Are you excited?"

"Vul-lix!" the Fox Pokémon responded softly, its tails swishing eagerly.

"Since we can't find her here, why not head to the registration area?" Misty suggested. "She'll have to check in there."

"You're right!" Brock's eyes lit up, and he hurried off toward the registration desk, forcing Ash and Misty to follow.

At the registration area, Brock continued scanning the crowd while Vulpix's ears twitched excitedly. Suddenly, Vulpix leapt from Brock's arms and darted forward.

"Vulpix!" Brock called, panicking as he pushed through the crowd to follow it. Ash and Misty trailed behind, apologizing to bystanders as they squeezed through the bustling throng.

"There she is!" Brock slowed down, spotting a familiar figure with long green hair. His face lit up with a smile.

"Vulpix!" Suzy turned just in time to catch the little Pokémon leaping into her arms. She embraced Vulpix tightly, her own smile radiating joy. "It's been so long! You've grown beautifully, Vulpix."

"Suzy!" Brock finally reached them, his heart pounding as he stood before her. Seeing her face again made his feelings for her swell even more.

"It's been a while, Brock," Suzy said warmly, her voice just as gentle as Brock remembered. She had hardly changed, and Brock found himself liking her even more.

Ash and Misty caught up moments later. "Hello, Miss Suzy," Misty greeted her with a smile.

"Hi, Misty. Ash," Suzy replied. Her gaze shifted to Pikachu on Ash's shoulder. "And Pikachu! You're as energetic as ever!"

"Pika!" Pikachu waved its paw cheerfully.

As the group exchanged pleasantries, a few contestants nearby overheard Suzy addressing Ash and began to murmur.

"That's Ash Ketchum!" someone exclaimed.

Soon, more people noticed him, and Ash found himself the center of attention. Many breeders were curious about how he had raised such a powerful Pikachu.

"This isn't the place for a conversation," Ash said, realizing the crowd was growing. "Miss Suzy, have you registered already?"

"I have," Suzy replied, understanding the predicament. "Let's find somewhere quieter to talk."

Ash nodded and addressed the crowd. "I'm just here as an observer. Please, enjoy the competition!" He quickly guided the group away, managing to escape the swarm of curious onlookers.

They finally found refuge in a nearby café. Ash let out a relieved sigh as they settled into their seats. Suzy glanced at him apologetically. "I'm sorry about earlier. I didn't realize how popular you've become."

Ash chuckled. "It's fine. I'm getting used to it, but moments like that remind me just how much my life has changed."

Suzy smiled, then turned her attention to Vulpix, who sat contentedly in her lap. "You've taken such good care of Vulpix, Brock. It's grown so much since we last met."

"Thank you," Brock said, his voice filled with emotion. "But Vulpix's beauty is a reflection of your amazing training from the start."

Suzy laughed softly. "You're too kind."

The group chatted for a while, sharing updates about their journeys. But as the conversation wore on, Ash noticed a subtle shift in Brock's demeanor.
