Chapter 78: They Unburden

(Alnitak)

Rahria has always been very open and blunt about her feelings and opinions. She had been more obsessed with Mintaka than me although she had offered herself to both of us.

It was no secret that she wanted us to be her mates. Upon learning that she was mated to Kacir, it brought out the worst in her.

Rahria was an excellent planner, especially when it came to parties, events and fashion sense, and she wanted someone stylish at her side.

Her and Kacir’s worlds are entirely different. Kacir loves to spend time playing chess, reading and studying. Yet, both of them were bound together for a reason.

It still surprises me that she opened up about what she had done in front of everyone, especially Amaia, whom she seems to hate.

Kacir sighs at her admission. "I make no promises but I am ready to let go of the animosity I hold against you and work together for the sake of our guildmates. But, make no mistakes, this will solely be a platonic relationship."

She quickly nods and a small smile graces her lips.

"I have a few more things to say since Sir Alnilam asked us to be transparent and open up."

Her eyes waver to Amaia. "After Amaia’s inclusion, I feel like all of you just forgot about my existence." She turns her attention towards us. "Both of you are brothers so I understand the room sharing. But Kacir chose Amaia and I have been left alone. No one even speaks to me which has turned me into this vindictive bitch. I understand I deserved some of it but still. I miss you guys. I miss hanging out and the old times."

Mintaka snorts at her. "Your selfishness and vindictiveness have brought all of us here, Rahria, don’t act innocent now."

She has that guilty look written all over her face. That confident Rahria has been buried somewhere, and now that I pay attention, she has bags under her eyes as if she hasn’t been sleeping.

"I am not, I am owning up to my mistakes and at the same time I am saying what’s in my heart and what I feel. That’s the whole point of our punishment: to let go of our grievances and talk it out."

She has a point, though, so I press Mintaka’s arm to let her speak.

Her attention snags towards Amaia and her face hardens. I don’t like the way she berates and looks at her. Amaia has earned her place among us and I am not going to sit and let Rahria walk all over her.

"And I am not going to lie and say that I like you, Amaia. I don’t when you are closer to my mate than I am. Maybe in the future we will start to be amicable, but for now, I will be just tolerating you for the sake of everyone," she concludes.

Amaia simply bunches her lips up before speaking. "Understandable but I won’t tolerate anyone raising a finger on my character or trying to bully me. Everyone wants respect, and I think we are old enough not to disrespect each other."

Rahria nods, although her eyes still hold animosity for Amaia. I hope she won’t succumb to low in her jealousy.

With that Rahria gets up and returns to her seat, emptying the middle one for someone else to take.

A few seconds pass and Kacir stands up and slowly walks to the place Rahria has just emptied. He drops down on it like a broken man.

Without a doubt, amidst our drama Kacir is the one who has been affected the most. He has lost even more weight, his clothes dangle on his body. His hair is a mess and I know he uses it like a shield.

"Since we are doing this and there is no way out other than to say what’s in my heart..." He heavily pauses, his eye adjusts towards his mate—the one who has only brought him pain and agony. "Rahria I have loved you more than anyone and for as long as I can remember." His words are laced with pain and they affect all of us.

Mintaka and I have been his best friends, and Amaia is his roommate, and I know she cares deeply for him. Rahria watches him with tears brimming in her eyes that shimmer from the reflection of candlelight.

"But you deliberately brought me pain, humiliated me and wronged me. Even after knowing what I was going through when Kayla (his sister) passed away." A mind-numbing silence follows his words. Mintaka stiffens beside me while Rahria sniffles, and tears finally fall down her cheeks.

"I wouldn’t even do that to an enemy what you did to me—to your mate," Kacir weekly says, his voice trembling as he tries to keep his emotions in check.

Amaia lowers her head and I know she is also trying not to cry.

"I forgive you, though, and understand you don’t love me. But I will need time for this to work. You won’t push me or accuse me of anything. You won’t belittle Amaia and give me space to work this out. And I promise not to ignore your existence...I will try," he concludes and Rahria quickly nods her head, agreeing.

"I promise, Kacir. That’s all I want." She wipes her tears with the back of her hand.

Kacir finally turns his head and watches Mintaka who is at the edge of his seat. The silence stretches as they both awkwardly stare.

Mintaka breaks the silence.

"I know whatever I say or no matter how I apologise, it won’t turn back time and I can’t take back what I did. But, I swear I didn’t know. Neither you nor Rahria told me that both of you are mates." Mintaka shakes his head and I place my hand on his back. I know the guilt he is carrying and how it breaks him.

"If I had known I would have never slept with her. There is no forgiveness for what I did but if you ever can, I would like to have my best friend back." Mintaka breathes out, the raw pain in his voice makes even Amaia let out a strangled breath. She is watching my brother with teary eyes as if seeing him in a whole new light.
