Chapter 355: Trial 3

The stone archway guided him upward, causing the endless plain to vanish. On the second floor, there was no ground—only emptiness. A dark, silent void. Nero drifted within it, his soul-form feeling small and weightless, giving an impression of insignificance.

Then, his consciousness started to shift. It wasn’t like moving; it resembled melting and spreading.

He was no longer Nero observing a world. He became the world—or rather, he transformed into the first material, the primal earth, before anything else existed.

He felt himself as a formless, endless mass of potential, drifting in the cosmic dark. It was cold, quiet, and lonely. There was no thought, only a deep, patient existence.

Then, something changed. A spark of will, ancient and immense, stirred within the mass. It was a desire for form. For substance.

This was the birth of Terradon’s consciousness. It wasn’t a dragon yet. It was the idea of the foundation waking up.

Under the pressure of its own immense weight and this new will, the formless mass began to coalesce. Nero felt it happening—particles drawing together, bonding, becoming solid. He was the feeling of dust becoming stone, of chaos becoming order. It was the first act of creation from within the earth itself.

From his own (the earth’s) body, things began to rise.

Mountains: He felt parts of himself pushed upward with incredible, slow force. It wasn’t painful; it was a natural stretching, like a giant waking and flexing its muscles. He experienced the immense pressure that forged granite, the patience of a peak taking a million years to rise a single inch. He was the unshakable strength of the bedrock.

Water: Deep within his cooling form, he felt pockets of himself melt and flow. Not as destruction, but as transformation. He became the underground aquifers, the secret rivers in the dark. He learned that earth was not just solidity, but also the source and the container for the world’s water, holding it safe in stone basins.

Then Plants: As his surface cooled and was touched by a memory of light (from a sun not yet formed in this vision), he felt a new sensation—a greening. It started as a faint tickle, a spark of incredible vitality pushing up from deep within him. He became the soil that cradled the first root. He felt the nourishment flowing from his body into that tiny sprout. He understood then that earth wasn’t just a place for life; it was the partner that gave life its strength, its food, its very body.

And lastly Forests and Life: The single spark multiplied. He felt the tickling green spread, becoming a carpet, then a field, then a vast, whispering forest. His body teemed with life—bugs burrowed, worms turned the soil, great trees sank roots deep into his heart. He experienced the joyful burden of supporting an entire world of creatures. Their lives were his purpose. Their growth was his success.

He wasn’t just watching this happen. He was the stage, the building blocks, and the silent, willing participant in all of it.

Through this experience, he understood more:

Earth was mother and father. It gave birth to landscapes and nurtured all life.

Earth was change. It wasn’t a dead rock. It was constantly, slowly transforming—mountains rising and wearing down, continents drifting, soil renewing.

Earth was community. It existed in relationship with everything—holding water, feeding plants, providing shelter for animals. It was the ultimate provider.

Finally, as the world teemed with life atop him, the core consciousness within the earth—the will that had first stirred—saw its work. It saw the mountains as its spines, the deep plains as its hide, the flowing rivers as its blood. With a final, contented rumble that vibrated through the entire newborn world, that consciousness took shape around its own creation. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

It became the dragon whose body was the planet. Terradon, the World-Serpent, was not placed on the earth. He awakened as the earth, its spirit and its flesh made one.

The vision faded. Nero found himself back in his own soul-form, standing on a simple, solid stone platform—the second floor of the labyrinth. He was breathing heavily, not from effort, but from awe. His understanding of the Law of Earth was no longer just an idea. It was a memory. He had been it. He had felt the first thought of the foundation of all things.

He felt stronger, not in a muscular way mind you, but in a deep, unshakable way. Like his soul itself had gained roots that reached into the heart of reality.

Another archway, leading up, shimmered into view. The lesson of connection and creation was complete. The next floor awaited.

Nero stepped through the final archway. The world dissolved into pure, bright light, and he found himself standing on a gigantic, floating platform made of smooth, white stone. It seemed to hang in an endless, soft gray void. As his feet touched the platform, a change washed over him.

His soul-form solidified. A simple, sturdy light armor appeared on his body, cool and firm against his skin. In his hand, the familiar weight of his longsword materialized. Most importantly, he felt his strength return—the full, vibrant power of a Peak Red Knight flooding his limbs. He was whole again, here.

Then, the air in front of him shimmered. From the distortion stepped a figure.

It was himself.

An identical Nero, wearing the same armor, holding the same sword, radiating the exact same Peak Red Knight strength. The only difference was the eyes. His clone’s eyes were flat, expressionless, like polished stones. There was no fire, no lightning, no will behind them—just pure, focused intent.

Above them, floating in the center of the white platform, was a beautiful, pulsing brown crystal. It glowed with a warm, deep light, and within it, Nero could see swirling motes of earth—tiny mountains, grains of sand, and specks of glittering ore. It was the Essence of Earth.

Terradon’s voice, a quiet rumble, echoed directly in his mind.

"The final trial. Victory claims the essence. You may wield only the Law of Earth. Nothing else."
