Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law-Chapter 667: Poisoning Incident (2)_1
This matter would definitely still be pursued by him and Glades Horne, but on the surface, it had already been entirely handed over to the public security authorities.
After returning home, Julia was also exhausted. She went into the room and sat down on the sofa. Unable to hide her indignation, she said to Glades, "Who has a grudge against Rachel? Who would frame her like this? Toying with someone's life! Glades, could it really be Noah Reyes who did this?"
It's highly possible that Noah Reyes is Billy's biological father. If it was really him, then his character must be utterly despicable.
If he ever comes looking for Adele and Billy in the future, with such a terrible character, they would never hand Adele and Billy over to him. Such a person is too horrifying.
"Still investigating."
Glades Horne sat down beside her and pulled her into his embrace.
He felt that this incident might not be the work of Noah Reyes.
When they had first received the news, both he and Hansen Ruiz immediately thought of Noah Reyes. However, Noah Reyes is cunning and meticulous, making it very hard for anyone to find any evidence of his deeds. How could they have found a suspect so quickly this time? That didn't seem like Noah Reyes' style.
If it wasn't Noah Reyes, then who could it be?
Could it be one of Rachel's competitors? Her business has grown significantly, potentially inciting jealousy among her peers, who might have then plotted against her.
The scenarios of romantic rivalry that the reporters imagined were definitely impossible.
Hansen Ruiz has always been known for his integrity. Aside from Rachel Bailey, he has never been involved with any other woman.
Rachel Bailey didn't have a history of dating before marrying Hansen Ruiz either.
Julia said, her heart aching, "If it really is him, what will happen to Adele and Billy? How can we feel at ease handing Adele and her son over to such a ruthless man? My poor sister-in-law has suffered for so many years, only to end up raising her son alone for a tyrant who regarded human life as worthless. It's just not worth it."
"Hungry, aren't you? I'll have Auntie Mei make us something to eat," Glades Horne responded, off-topic. The matter was still under investigation, and after a whole day of exertion, she hadn't eaten dinner yet.
Even though he hadn't eaten either, his first thought was always of her.
"If you hadn't mentioned it, I wouldn't have felt hungry. But now that you have, I'm starving," Julia said, a little sheepishly.
Glades Horne gave a knowing look. He dialed the internal phone line to ask Auntie Mei to prepare some food for them. After hanging up, he suddenly caged Julia between his arms and the sofa. Lowering his head, his gaze intense as he looked at her, he said in a husky voice, "You've had a stressful day, and you're tired. Relax. Nothing will happen. Rachel is out now, isn't she? Ruiz and I are handling the investigation. It hurts me to see you tired."
Julia looked up, wanting to say something, but realized that anything she might say would be superfluous.
She reached out, wrapped her arms around his neck, and pulled him down. They embraced tightly.
"Mommy."
There was a knock on the door, followed by Ivan Horne's voice.
Julia hastily pushed Glades Horne away, not wanting their child to see their intimate moment.
Glades Horne didn't let go. He sat down on the sofa, pulling her onto his lap, and said, "Ignore that boy."
"He's your son. You dote on him to the heavens during the day, but at night you treat him like an enemy. I've never seen a daddy like you," Julia chuckled, poking his forehead.
"He must be here to pester you about sleeping with you again," Glades Horne grumbled.
His wife was his alone. To paraphrase his son, only he called Julia 'wife', so Julia was his.
"Rachel had an incident today. We were all out dealing with it and haven't been home all day. Adele picked up Ivan from school. The little guy probably misses his daddy and mommy," Julia said.
"In a couple more years, we'll let him learn to be independent," Glades said, kissing her cheek before letting her go. He stood up and went to open the door.
Hearing him talk about teaching their son to be independent, Julia wanted to say something, but seeing him go to open the door, she held her tongue.
As soon as the door opened, Glades Horne bent down, scooped up his son, and planted a firm kiss on the boy's handsome cheek before gently asking, "It's bedtime. Why are you still knocking on doors?"
Ivan Horne raised a small hand to wipe his kissed cheek. Then, he threw his arms around Glades Horne's neck and planted several enthusiastic kisses on Glades's handsome face, generously smearing saliva all over it.
After finishing his kisses, he answered, "Tonight, Daddy and Mommy both came back very late. Ivan wanted to come and see you." He knew his parents were busy people, managing many others when they were out. But as far as he could remember, his parents always came home early each evening. Even if they had guests or social engagements at night, they would find time to come back for a bit around dusk. Tonight was an exception, so he had wanted to come and check on them.
Julia also came out, took their son from Glades's arms, and said with a smile, "Next time, Mommy will call home."
Ivan Horne nodded, as if half-understanding. He then slid down from Julia's embrace to the floor. In another two months, he would be four years old. He was getting bigger and didn't want Mommy to always be holding him.
After the family of three shared an affectionate moment, Auntie Mei finished preparing the food and called upstairs using the internal line. Glades Horne then carried his son back to the boy's room, instructing the nanny to watch over him until he fell asleep. He and Julia then went downstairs for dinner.
「South Hill District, Riverside New Village.」
Madam Ruiz lay half-reclined on Camila Ruiz's small bed, personally lulling her granddaughter to sleep.
She also knew about Rachel Bailey's incident.
The first thing she did was deny that Rachel Bailey's dishes had any problems. Even if she found Rachel displeasing in many ways, she understood Rachel's temperament. Rachel would never joke about someone's life, so her dishes had to be safe.
Here, she had no power or influence. She didn't step forward to help her daughter-in-law; she trusted her son more. With her son around, she believed her daughter-in-law would be fine.
Camila Ruiz fell asleep quickly. She had wanted to wait for her parents to return, but she was too young to resist the allure of the Sandman. She quickly waved the white flag of surrender and followed him into dreamland.
Seeing her granddaughter asleep, Madam Ruiz gently nuzzled her granddaughter's lovely cheek for a moment. Then, she slid off the bed and tiptoed out of the room. Just then, the sound of a car came from outside.
She immediately headed downstairs. As she reached the first floor, Hansen Ruiz and Rachel Bailey were already walking in side by side. Seeing her come down, Hansen instinctively asked, "Mom, why aren't you asleep yet?"
Madam Ruiz glanced at Rachel and asked Hansen, "Is everything alright now?"
She had been on edge all day.
Now that she saw her daughter-in-law return, she realized she actually cared a great deal for this daughter-in-law whom she had always found so displeasing.
