Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law-Chapter 668 Talking about Love (1)_1
"Mom, it's okay now. Sorry for making you worry. I'm heading upstairs first," Rachel said, exhausted from the ordeal. She managed a strained smile at her mother-in-law before making her way upstairs.
Ms. Ruiz turned to watch her ascend, wanting to say something several times, but ultimately she turned to look at her son and asked, "Has it been figured out? Is it related to Rachel? Will police officers come to take her away again?"
Hansen Ruiz withdrew his gaze that followed his wife upstairs and looked at his mother, suddenly saying with a laugh, "Mom, do you really care about Rachel?"
After all these years, his mother still refused to say she was willing to accept Rachel, even though he could see that his mother had actually acknowledged her. However, he needed her to say it out loud. Only then would he return to the Ruiz Family with his wife and daughter in an honorable fashion. Everyone in the Ruiz family knew that their prodigal son had married and had a daughter, yet he had never brought his wife and child home. The anxious elders in the family insisted that the descendants of the Ruiz family couldn't drift outside forever. They urged Ms. Ruiz to bring her granddaughter back to the Ruiz home, even if not for a permanent stay, just so the family elders could meet her.
Ms. Ruiz also smiled. "She is your wife, after all. With such an incident, for the sake of your reputation, how could I not care? What I care about is my son." She wasn't about to let her son get what he wanted just like that. This rascal always had a way of backing her into a corner, and sometimes, she just wanted to outstubborn her son.
"You make so much money, and you have nowhere to spend it. She married you and gave birth to your daughter; she should stay at home and be a full-time wife. But no, she runs around outside every day, and now look what has happened," Ms. Ruiz complained.
"Rachel's dish had no issue; it was sabotaged by someone else," Hansen said, knowing his mother was just beating around the bush to get answers.
He, too, was tired. Recently, the need to guard against Noah Reyes had demanded his unprecedentedly intense concentration. He was not only closely watching the movements of all subsidiaries under the Valence Group but also had to guard against Noah's underhanded tactics. After today's incident with his beloved wife and the long hours at the Police Station, he just wanted to go upstairs and rest.
"The damn bastard, actually poisoning someone like that!"
Ms. Ruiz, having received the answer she wanted, was furious.
She was accustomed to being assertive and aggressive and couldn't stand being taken advantage of.
To her, if her daughter-in-law was being bullied, it was as if she herself was being bullied.
"Hansen, you must find the person who poisoned her and skin them, pick their tendons, break their bones, drink their blood, dig out their heart to see whether it is red or black, treating human life as a joke like that..." Ms. Ruiz blurted out, her words even more ferocious than Hansen's.
Hansen looked at his mother with a half-smile and said, "Alright, Mom, when we catch that person, I'll let you carry out the punishment, huh? I'm heading upstairs first."
Having said that, he left his astonished mother behind and headed upstairs.
"Ah, Hansen..." Ms. Ruiz was extremely taken aback. She had merely cursed in anger, not really intending to follow through with such acts. Her son couldn't possibly be serious, right?
She had been harsh in her youth, but she had never actually skinned someone, plucked their tendons, broken their bones, drunk their blood, or dug out their heart.
When Hansen returned to the room, Rachel Bailey had already finished her bath and was at the wardrobe picking out clothes for Hansen. Seeing him enter, she took the selected clothes into the Bathroom, then came out and said to Hansen, "Your clothes are ready. Have a shower soon."
Hansen didn't say anything; he quietly went into the Bathroom as she suggested.
Soon, the sound of running water could be heard from inside.
Rachel went to check on their daughter before returning to the room.
Lying on the bed, she was tired but had no trace of sleepiness.
She was still pondering the poisoning incident that had happened during the day.
She was eager to know who had poisoned her dish. The police officers' primary suspect was a young woman.
Upon reflection, she had lived to the age of thirty without ever having an enemy or feud with any woman. Who would do such a thing to her? The only person she could consider an enemy was Diana Powell. However, since the Powell Family's downfall, Diana had gone mad and had been in a mental hospital for several years now. A madwoman would not have the cunning to poison her like that. So who was it? Was it really about love, as the media suggested? Did Hansen Ruiz have an affair? Impossible! Had Hansen Ruiz offended someone outside, and they were taking it out on her?
Hansen hadn't told Rachel Bailey about the incident with Noah Reyes. He reasoned that Noah was targeting the Valence Group, and Rachel had nothing to do with the Valence Group. Therefore, Noah shouldn't have gone after Rachel.
"What's wrong?" a soft, low voice came from above her head as Hansen Ruiz lay down beside her.
Looking up at this extraordinary man, Rachel said, her voice calm but her brows furrowed, "I really want to know who would do this to me."
Hansen Ruiz embraced her, his warm eyes briefly flashing with a cold fierceness, before quickly returning to gentleness. He said in a deep voice, "I will find that person. It's late now, let's sleep."
Resting her head on his arm, Rachel didn't ask any further questions.
She was truly tired.
Soon, she fell soundly asleep in Hansen Ruiz's arms.
Assuring himself that the person in his embrace had fallen asleep, Hansen Ruiz carefully got out of bed and walked out of the room to make a phone call.
A moment later, he returned to the inner room.
It wasn't Noah Reyes's doing! His sources told him it was a woman named Orlando Evans. Orlando Evans was not unfamiliar to him. She had been classmates and friends with Adele Horne and had been infatuated with Glades Horne for nearly a decade. After seeing Glades with Julia, she likely became consumed by jealousy that turned to hatred; she would constantly instigate Adele to oppose Julia. Eventually, she angered Glades, and her actions impacted the entire Evans Family. Unfortunately, this woman still hadn't learned her lesson and even harmed Adele, which led to her imprisonment. After so many years, she had probably already been released. Unexpectedly, she was still as venomous as ever. But what grudge did she hold against Rachel? Why would she target Rachel? She should have been going after Julia or Glades Horne, shouldn't she? No matter what, now that he knew it was Orlando Evans, he definitely wouldn't let her get away with it! To dare mess with his Rachel, even a cat with nine lives wouldn't escape with enough lives. Hansen Ruiz had already ordered his people to find Orlando Evans. If they didn't utterly destroy her, he wouldn't be Hansen Ruiz.
Later, as if remembering something, Hansen Ruiz changed his clothes, picked up his car keys, and quietly left the room.
「Nameless Manor.」
In the dead of night, the Manor was exceptionally quiet. Besides the Courtyard lights that were still on, no human figure was to be seen anywhere.
