Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law-Chapter 716 Starting to Gamble (3)_1
How could Jimmy Horne possibly call Noah Reyes ’Daddy’ now? Her own man had gambled unfairly this time. How could he use Adele Horne’s future as a stake? It was especially unfair to Jimmy Horne. What Jimmy Horne desired most was fatherly love. Now that his father had actually come looking for him, they were trying to prevent a father and son from acknowledging each other. Wasn’t that essentially severing the very paternal bond Jimmy Horne yearned for?
As if guessing Julia’s thoughts, Glades Horne looked at her intensely, saying gravely, "Julia, don’t think about helping Noah Reyes. However, this is something you probably won’t be able to help with." After saying that, Glades Horne smiled, seemingly quite pleased with himself. Then, in a good mood, he wrapped his arm around Julia’s shoulders and they walked back, ready to go inside and watch Noah Reyes’s attempt.
Julia followed his steps, not denying his accusation that she wanted to help Noah Reyes. She still hoped her sister-in-law, Adele Horne, would find happiness soon and that the family of three could reunite without any hard feelings. In her heart, the happiness of her nephew and sister-in-law came first; pranks came second. But how could she help Noah Reyes in this situation? Noah Reyes probably knew how difficult it would be; no wonder he had looked at her with a plea in his eyes earlier.
Noah Reyes entered Hansen Ruiz’s villa and immediately followed the sound of a child’s voice into the dining room.
"Uncle," Jimmy Horne, who had been fighting over a dish with Camila Ruiz, immediately gave the dish to her upon seeing Noah Reyes enter. He slid joyfully off his seat and ran towards Noah Reyes with a smile.
"Billy."
Noah Reyes’s demeanor softened as his son rushed to him, his face brimming with joy. He bent over and scooped Jimmy Horne into his arms, spinning around several times, causing Jimmy Horne to laugh happily. The crisp sound of the child’s laughter echoed through the house, making everyone listening smile involuntarily.
"Billy, are you full?" Noah Reyes stopped spinning, his deep eyes unwaveringly fixed on his son’s little face, asking gently.
Jimmy Horne nodded, replying, "I’m full."
"Then, shall ’Daddy’ take you out to play, how about that?"
All children love to play; he thought he could entice his son to willingly go with him by offering to play.
"Where are we going to play?" Jimmy Horne instinctively asked.
Noah Reyes carried him and headed out, laughing, "Wherever you want to play, ’Daddy’ will take you there."
He felt joyful, believing Jimmy Horne would be willing to go with him.
But to his surprise, Jimmy Horne struggled out of his large hands, slipping from his embrace to the floor. Noah Reyes was taken aback. Everything had been fine; why the sudden change?
"Uncle, I can’t go with you." Jimmy Horne remembered his mommy’s instructions.
Noah Reyes was momentarily stunned.
Hansen Ruiz started to mock from the side, "Billy isn’t familiar with you; how could he possibly go out to play with you? Come on, Billy, come to Uncle." Hansen Ruiz sat down on the sofa and stretched out his hands towards Jimmy Horne.
Jimmy Horne stood still, not moving.
"Hansen Ruiz, I told you to go eat your meal! Isn’t your food waiting for you in there? If you don’t go in and eat now, don’t ever expect to taste my cooking again. My hard work isn’t for you to waste!" Rachel Bailey, that tigress, began to assert her authority again.
At that, Hansen Ruiz stopped making snide remarks and watching the spectacle. He sprang up from the sofa and scurried into the small dining room.
Noah Reyes was stunned once more.
So, this is how one becomes henpecked.
"Mr. Reyes, what did Glades Horne tell you?" Rachel Bailey asked Noah Reyes after cleverly diverting Hansen Ruiz.
Recognizing Rachel Bailey’s goodwill, Noah Reyes signaled for her to walk aside with him. Even as he stepped aside, his gaze remained fixated, deeply watching his son’s tiny figure. While looking at Jimmy Horne, he told Rachel Bailey in a low, concise voice about the bet he had made with Glades Horne.
If it had been before, Noah Reyes would not have divulged such information, but things were different now.
He was acutely aware that the Achilles’ heel for both Hansen Ruiz and Glades Horne were their wives. If he could get the assistance of these two ladies, his chances of winning would be significant.
Upon hearing this, Rachel Bailey frowned and cursed inwardly. "It’s like Zhou Yu beating Huang Gai—one willing to inflict the punishment, the other willing to endure it." Noah Reyes had dared to accept such an unfair bet with slim chances of victory. Didn’t he realize that if he actually lost, the fatherly love Jimmy Horne so desperately craved would be utterly snuffed out? And then there was Adele Horne. Rachel Bailey wasn’t particularly close to Adele Horne, but she had witnessed Adele Horne’s many years of suffering. Plus, Adele Horne was the sister-in-law of her good friend Julia, so Rachel Bailey also hoped Adele Horne could find happiness. Adele Horne didn’t currently have a boyfriend, so Noah Reyes’s appearance now was perfectly timed. After all, they shared Jimmy Horne; it was as if a family of three, accidentally separated, had now been reunited. So, she felt for Adele Horne. If Noah Reyes lost the bet, would Adele Horne’s happiness also be lost? How was she supposed to help Noah Reyes? Perhaps women were just naturally soft-hearted. Seeing Noah Reyes cast aside all dignity and status for his son and Adele Horne, willing to endure the torment from Glades Horne and Hansen Ruiz, Rachel Bailey’s heart was the first to soften. She decided to find a way to secretly help Noah Reyes with this matter.
After Noah Reyes finished speaking, he walked back toward Jimmy Horne.
At that moment, Glades Horne and Julia entered.
"Uncle Glades, Aunt Julia," Jimmy Horne greeted politely when he saw Glades Horne and Julia enter.
"Jimmy Horne, come here, let Aunt Julia give you a hug," Julia said, gently releasing Glades Horne’s hand.
Glades Horne watched Noah Reyes with a cold glare.
Jimmy Horne walked up to Julia, who bent down to pick him up and then sat on the sofa with him.
Noah Reyes glared back at Glades Horne fiercely. Glades Horne was doing this on purpose. With them here, how could his son possibly still follow him willingly? He certainly wouldn’t call him ’Daddy’ now.
Glades Horne returned a look that clearly said, "I am doing this on purpose. What can you do about it?"
Resentment simmered in Noah Reyes’s heart.
"Aunt Julia, I want to go out and play," Jimmy Horne said after Julia seated him on the sofa. He glanced at Noah Reyes, then turned to Julia.
Hearing this, Noah Reyes, no longer concerned with his staring contest with Glades Horne, put aside all his dignity and squatted in front of Jimmy Horne. He smiled warmly, "Billy, shall I take you out to play? I’ll take you to the Playground, shopping, for a drive, and get you lots of tasty things to eat. Whatever you want to play or eat, I’ll make sure you get it. How about that?"
Jimmy Horne’s face lit up with joy, and he eagerly asked, "Really?" But before he could finish smiling, he remembered his mommy’s warning, and his smile froze. Turning his head to look at Julia, he said, "Aunt Julia, I..."
