Chapter 105 - Downfall (3)

'I cannot do this anymore.' Edem thought as he wiped himself clean with the disposable wipes in the transport. He had to do some questionable things to get the drugs today. She was going through them faster now. Hygiene had become hard to maintain as the flow of suplies into the building slowed. Lara despised seeing anything below a Bitas and it was no secret. He could not even hire workers since she removed him from power. The others were not capable enough to hire, even if someone would work for them.
'I still feel dirty. It is just for now. Sedai can fix it.' Edem thought, he rocked slightly. The bag sat on the bench next to him. It was filled to the brim with sedatives and stimulants. He sighed. The silence he hoped for, interrupted as the hard rain pelted against the transport like a drum. The rainy season seemed endless. He felt like his heart mirrored the tempo. The bag shifted slightly indicating a slight speed change, he must be close now. He felt a sense of terror coming back to the building. There was nobody else to run these tasks. He had felt the eyes upon him as he left Sacred Tree with the bag. Everyone knew Hudai had fallen to its lowest, and some knew what he had done to get the contents of the bag. That Gimmel had odd tastes.
"I cannot go home." Edem muttered to himself. He wished he could flee by himself if it was possible. The door to the transport opened with a hiss that snapped Edem out of his own self pity. He climbed out of the transport reluctantly. He was thankful communications were not working unless you were on a terminal while he was away. It had become worse at home. There was no one else to take the attention off of them, her focus now on those who caught her attention when she was sober enough to stand. He pulled a set of shatter resistant dishes, platters and cups out to replace those that were broken last night. Food supplies. He was overburdened. He turned his head away from the cameras and quickly weeped for himself as he had practised before in the past, he did not have long to process it. He could not hide as well as the children due to his stature. Lara hated weakness. She hated everything.
"Of course I have to do this alone, because I'm the worthless one." Edem said fueled with sarcasm. He felt a wave of exhaustion hit him. He wiped his face quickly with his sleeves and pressed on his lower eyes with his sleeves. He plodded into the lobby, every step feeling like an effort. His body screamed at him to run as he pressed the call button and the doors slid open to the elevator. He reluctantly boarded and stood in the middle. The doors slid closed in a fluid motion. The inertia picked up as the elevator shot up past several closed down floors of the Hudai Technologies building as Edem returned with a bundle of Tranquiliser cylinders. The building itself had thirty eight floors and all but five of them were empty and devoid of all staff. Tomorrow two more floors would empty out as the live in staff emptied out their accommodations. This would leave four floors open for business, these would be for the division of workforce that developed and manufactured for the physical components of the interfaces, they were the only profitable line of business at the moment since they could not release updates. They could barely keep up with the fines.
"You little shit. Get back here and wipe the floors." Lara screamed. As the door slid open he could hear her yelling at the children to clean and make food. He was running on stimulants, he still could not sleep. Who could as their world burned down around them. The tissue regenerators in their medical kits had healed the various scratches, cuts and bruises that every male in the residence had either received from Lara or fighting or pleading with the staff to stay. The children were victims of Lara, who had become completely and utterly unhinged since the tools stopped working and she could no longer punish the children into complying to her wishes by the press of a button and began to use her nails, hands, feet and small scissors and files to punish them.
'Oh no, she was not lying, she really did it. I will not clean it up again.' Edem shuddered. The second thing that hit after the cacophony was the odour. The state of their living area was in disarray and filthy since the facilities staff had tendered their resignations. There was no one to do the washing either. The others willingly took their turns. Others complained that he should do it. He just had his time away from the building. He wanted to leave with the children and return to his maternal family.
'If my sister finds out what I have done, Would she welcome me home and permit me to be around their children? She may because of Talan. Who am I kidding? He hates me.' Edem thought. He felt himself shudder inwardly as he took in Lara in her absolute worst state. Normally the abuse did not spew beyond the designated room she had set up. She was absolutely vile. She had refused to bathe for days so she smelled awful. Her hair was knotted and tangled and she had food debris stuck to her bare chest. She had relieved herself in the mainroom. She was seriously ill, she had always been ill, this was the worst it had ever been.
"I have brought what you requested. Sit down." Edem said loudly as he brought up the nerve to disembark the elevator.
"You little rack born disappointment. Do not flinch!" Lara muttered as she stood half nude in their living area abusing one of the younger children. Spittle was running down the corner of her mouth as the small child whimpered.
"Come and sit my Love." Edem plead as he felt bile rising up into his throat. Lara finally sat down as the young boy balled up on the floor and started to cry. He had small stab wounds on his arms. He hated Lara so much.
"Shut up, shit. Dose me." Lara said bitterly as she got comfortable. Edem pulled out a cylinder and hit the dose button.
"More. You know better." Lara said and slapped him across the face. Edem felt a rage pool up inside him. He hit the dose button again and again until the safety went off.
"Lara-" Edem plead. She punched him hard in his groin. His vision went white.
"More, shit for brains." Lara said as she smacked him across the head again. Edem felt himself lose himself with rage.
"Leave, now. Run." Edem said with a hitch in his voice to the child in the room. He could take the abuse. He was used to it. He would not flinch. He felt relief seeing the boy run off. Lara slapped Edem in the face again. She smiled as he shook with a rage that he could not express. She loved this feeling.

"You do not get to run things around here, remember that lousy pieces of flesh between your legs is all that you are good for, Shit. And that is not even satisfactory." Lara spat and slapped Edem across the face again. Edem trembled. "You are worthless. That is why I prefer my own. My own do it better than your brainless rack rejects. Because they are half competent." Lara said bitterly.
"You wretch." Edem spat. He pushed Lara back into the seat, pressing her down with a hand. Her nails viciously dug into his for no other reason than to make him miserable. Bloody crescents formed on his arm and stung as they bled. Edem grabbed four cylinders, two in each hand and rapidly injected them in Lara's body. Lara's eyes widened as she gasped in pleasure, she smiled widely and eerily serene way.
"Finally." Lara wheezed. Lara spat in his face vindictively and slapped him again. "I will kill you as soon as the tools come online. You first. Then your children. I will erase your lineage." Lara mumbled.
"You are already killing us." Edem said as his last tenuous grasp of sanity left him. Her breathing became shallow, so delightfully shallow, almost like she was dead. Edem slapped her face hard and punched her in his rage.
"Who cares? Your clan would not want a dirty thing like you back any-anyways. You will be better off dead." Lara slowly wheezed, not seeming to feel his heavy retaliation.
"We are all dead now. Monster." Edem said as angry tears flooded his eyes. "Just stop breathing. Free us." Edem whispered. He climbed on top of her body and balled up his fist.
"Hahahaha. Waste." Lara laughed and said. She stared up at him. She gathered spit and phlegm in her mouth and spit upon his face. Edem's face contorted. He punched her hard in her face repeated as she cackled. "Waste." Lara said and spat blood in his face. She raked his face with her nails. Edem grabbed her neck and forced her down on the couch.
"I have had enough." Edem said as he shook, he tightened his grip. Her wheezing became gurgling. Edem trembled with rage and strangled her with all his might, pressing his body weight into the act. She was so sedated that she could not even struggle much. Her arms flailed and she raked his arms repeatedly. It only spurred him on. By the time he came to his senses, she was gone.
"No.Huh huh huh. Uhn!" Edem cried, mucous streaming from his nose and drool from his mouth. "I have nowhere to go." Edem started to sob. He grabbed a handful of cylinders and rapidly dosed himself. He staggered out to the terrace. The rain fell in heavy drops. He was soon soaked. He let out a guttural wail and ran at full speed and dove over the balcony, falling to his death. Rain pelted the street as his consciousness faded to blackness.
