Raising Ducks for Daily Rewards-Chapter 46: Renting Five Acres
As usual, Fengyu waited for the twins to complete their business before he did his.
To his surprise, their income this year had increased substantially, but he didn’t see any smiles on their faces.
He told them to wait for him while he completed his business, again gaining 280 spirit stones. Over the past year, his monthly income was stable at 280 spirit stones, resulting in the income for the whole year being 3,000 spirit stones! Naturally he deducted the monthly feed cost for his ducks, which was 20 spirit stones monthly, and his own monthly food, costing 120 stones in total.
Adding his previous savings of 2,660 spirit stones, he was now at 5,660 spirit stones!
"Haha, steward, it seems next year I will pay you back in full! But, I would like to exchange 2,000 spirit stones of these into jade coins, is it possible to use last year’s quota?"
The steward looked at him for a moment before nodding, "That’s no issue. Though in the future, it’s better to take them on time."
Here, this is one thousand spirit stones and twenty jade coins."
Looking at the thousand stones on the ground and the twenty coins in his hand, Fengyu could only smile wryly before he quickly took everything into his spatial bag.
Completing the business, he bid farewell. Neither he nor the steward mentioned paying off the flute.
Two more years remained on the debt, and Fengyu wasn’t in a hurry to pay everything back, not to mention that he couldn’t.
Turning to Ming and Ling, he smiled at them, "You two, why are you so solemn? Tell your senior brother what’s bothering you."
Ling looked at Ming for a moment, seeing him nod, she exhaled slightly and answered, "The previous two years, our father’s lease was still up, renting ten acres. But the rent will only last for another half year, upon which we will have to renew it.
Senior brother, it’s like this.
We’re renting ten acres for one thousand spirit stones yearly, but...
Although we have it, we’re not sure whether the clerk at the office will allow us to rent it."
When he heard this, Fengyu’s first thought was that these two were very talented rice planters.
Earning a thousand spirit stones yearly and not having any worries, they definitely worked hard and likely transformed their whole field into a rice paddy, using their individual talents to get the most out of the ten acres.
"If it’s just renting, then I will take you two to rent it.
But such big fields of ten acres are usually only trusted to one person, and when they die, after their lease is up, the field will be rented away to those who have waited in line for a long time.
Even I was only able to snatch it because people feared the beast tide and didn’t dare rent a field so far out, but now it’s been two years and no beast has been sighted.
People will definitely be eyeing your field.
If you want to secure it under such danger, you will have to give away something," Fengyu described their situation to make it clear.
He didn’t like the idea of bribery, but in the end, his dislike was also limited.
If it was someone like the first clerk doing his citizenship, who asked for money to do his job, then he hated them.
But if you gave some gifts to have an advantage, then it can’t be called a bribery but rather a convincing argument.
Hearing this, the two were determined and were about to take something out of their spatial bag when Fengyu waved his hand, "No, no, not for me, but for the clerk. Come, let me take you there, I also need to handle some business."
Fengyu simply smiled and led them away, not taking anything.
This would transform such a simple task as introduction into a favour. Considering their talents, Fengyu wanted to invest in them and would prefer giving away favours rather than taking small benefits.
Walking to the Village Hall, he saw that the clerk was free right away.
He walked forward with Ming and Ling at his side, cupping his hands in greeting.
"Greetings fellow daoist, what can I do for you today?" the clerk also cupped his hands and asked.
"My business can wait for a moment, I hope fellow daoist can take care of my two junior sister and brother."
Fengyu turned to Ming and Ling, telling them to talk about their issue.
"Hello fellow daoist," Ling started, "we rent the field right next to senior brother Fengyu. We would like to extend our rent for another year, if that’s possible."
Ming already took his jade token and handed it to the clerk.
The clerk was a bit surprised and looked over to Fengyu, when he saw him nod, he smiled and completed the task rather fast.
Ming and Ling directly handed over the spirit stones that hadn’t even warmed up in their bag.
Seeing the deal completed, Ming walked forward and took out a bag of rice from his bag, handing it over to the clerk, "This is just a small thank you gift, I hope fellow daoist won’t refuse!" he said maturely.
Looking at the bag, the clerk opened it and saw that it was Spirited Rice, of a high quality even!
It was enough rations for a month, the worth between five and ten spirit stones!
Such a gift... he looked over to Fengyu and nodded.
It seemed trusting this fellow daoist was the right move!
"Haha, thank you, thank you! Make sure to come to me next year when you renew your lease again!"
The two cupped their hands in thanks too and walked a few steps back, waiting for Fengyu to complete his business.
"Fellow daoist, please tell me how I can help you!" the clerk became friendlier and asked Fengyu.
"Haha, it’s not much. Just renew the lease, this time, I’d like to rent five acres if possible."
"Naturally it’s possible, no problem. That makes five hundred spirit stones."
Fengyu nodded and handed over his jade token as well as five hundred spirit stones. After doing so, he also gave him a basket of eggs as a thanks.
He had made this choice after calculating his own spiritual power recovery and the help of Spring Rain, allowing him to relax slightly in that regard.
The process was completed fast and he soon left the hall with the other two.
Walking back to the field, he chatted with them and told them a few things to remember when interacting with clerks and other people in positions that can influence them.
He also subtly talked of his resentment for people who took money to do their work even though they were already paid a wage.
After chatting a bit more, he arrived at his field and entered.
