Re-Awakening: I Became a Pay To Win Boss Monster-Chapter 107: The Corrupt Priest, and A Little Unexpected Situation
—The Empresses would never do that!
—Yeah! That has to be a fake!
—It's definitely a fake! He must've forced Empress Caedia to cooperate with him!
A load of bullshit as per usual, Rael thought with a sigh. "It's the real deal, and I'm sure you also realize what this means, don't you?"
As he finished those words, he glanced at Caedia, who, with an exhausted look, pulled out the same item resembling a key.
Two fragments, which meant that there was only one left.
However, by now, the crowd had fallen silent.
Instead, a fierce-looking man wearing a white robe approached Rael, stopping just in front of him.
"May I take a look?" the man asked, and with slight cautiousness, Rael gently handed him the fragment.
The man inspected it for a few moments, his expression changing by the second.
And in the end, the man merely handed the fragment back to Rael and glanced toward the crowd.
"This is indeed a fragment, and since Lady Caedia has another one, that means either Empress Esmeralda or Empress Victoria is plotting treason."
"Michael..." Esmeralda muttered with a frown. "You're tarnishing our reputation in front of everyone."
However, the priest, Michael, merely chuckled. "When all three of you became empresses, I vowed before everyone present that I would not tolerate any infighting. This is the perfect moment to enact my beliefs, and I hope everyone shows cooperation."
With that, he turned to Rael. "I appreciate you for bringing this up. Now, could I get the fragment?"
"...?" Rael tilted his head. "What do you mean?"
"Well, you've proved your point. I will find out who was responsible for this incident and punish them accordingly," Michael stated with a warm smile.
But instead of reassurance, all Rael felt was disappointment.
Here I thought this guy was actually going to follow the normal priest trope and be righteous. Nah, he's just as rotten as the rest of them, Rael thought, stashing away the key fragment.
"I'm willing to consider it if you pay me 100 million Trell. It seems reasonable, considering this is the ticket out, right?" Rael suggested with an equally warm smile.
Yet, Michael flinched. "We've been investing our funds into—"
"Bullshit." Rael cut him off. "You've been investing your funds into bullshit. Or more like, nothing at all."
He turned toward Esmeralda, who was now staring at him with a death glare.
"You in particular. You don't have the last key fragment at all, do you? This was just some elaborate and stupid ruse."
"No, it wasn't." Victoria stepped in, her eyes narrowed. "You don't understand anything, so I suggest you leave us alone."
"So I was right, and from the gazes of everyone around us, I bet they're not exactly fond of hearing this news," Rael said, and before things could escalate further, he walked toward Caedia and stood beside her.
After all, if his calculations were right, this was about the moment one of the two would lash out.
However, even after several minutes, they did nothing of the sort.
Hmm... guess I underestimated Victoria. She seemed very easy to antagonize, but I guess she's an empress for a reason, Rael thought.
Nonetheless, he tapped Caedia on the shoulder, and the moment he did, she reluctantly handed him her fragment.
They had agreed to a Plan B scenario if things didn't go according to plan, and this was exactly that.
After all, if he let the situation escalate at the same pace, they would be overwhelmed due to the sheer number of supporters these two empresses had.
So for the time being, the only thing these people could do was gawk at the fact that he had this many key fragments in his possession.
Naturally, the aggro would leave Caedia and fall onto him. So in the meantime, she established her stance.
"Everyone, I apologize for his sudden outburst. However, every word he said was the truth," Caedia stated. "I was skeptical at first. After all, we had the rough locations of each and every single fragment, and yet we managed to find another one in the Ruins of Saltmere."
"But what if it's fake!" one of the officials yelled. "That darned priest doesn't know anything! Show it to me—I'll tell you if it's real or not!"
Fanboy spotted, Rael noted, and flashed him the middle finger.
"Fuck off, fatso. The big guys are speaking."
"W-Wha—"
"He's right, Rigar. You should remain quiet," Michael added, carrying a priest-like tone. "You're in possession of two things we are in need of. I assume you're not going to accept anything short of 200 million Trell."
"You assume well. And while I don't exactly love to do this, every single minute you keep me waiting, the price increases by 5 million Trell. And it starts now," Rael replied, and the moment he did, Michael and the two empresses began murmuring amongst one another.
Truthfully, he held no empathy for these people, as at a single glance, they seemed like a bunch of rats.
Esmeralda was the smart rat, Michael was the traitorous rat, and lastly, Victoria was a bit of a mystery.
She seemed blunt and sometimes spoke her feelings without understanding the circumstances.
But aside from that, he couldn't quite get a read on her.
Maybe she's just a puppet empress...? Rael's eyes widened as he turned to Caedia. "Tell me, how many times has Victoria backed Esmeralda?"

Caedia's brows furrowed. "Too many..."
However, just as Rael was about to put out another accusation, Caedia spoke up with a conflicted look.
"She's not who you think she is. Like me, she was adopted by the same noble family. We go by the Ravaryn surname, so technically, she's my younger sister."
"So wait... you two ended up in the Depths together?" Rael asked, his eyes wide.
Caedia nodded slowly. "I came here first, then she arrived two years later. I already had a pretty high position in this city at the time, so with my recommendation, she got a similar position, and together, we rose up to become empresses of this city."
"But you two aren't getting along so well from the looks of things..." Rael sighed. "I understand, though. I'll just wait for their answer. If anything, I have a few other tricks up my slee—"
"Pfftt... Hahaha!" A laugh resounded from the back, and as the puzzled Rael turned toward it, he noticed the Beast's wide grin.
But once their eyes met, the Beast's grin widened further as it pointed toward its black eyes.
Rael froze as he clocked the hint.
It wants me to use Primordial Sight? Rael turned to the empresses and the priest.
Just in time, they also turned toward him, and soon, Michael spoke up.
"I believe we've come to a..."
Rael completely spaced out, not paying attention to a single word the priest was saying.
After all, the sight in front of him was a little... alarming.
