Chapter 55: 55. Another Item

55. Another Item

The legacy materialised over his head ringing it’s praises:

[You have slain a normal beast "Dark Leather Gator"

You have recieved a soul essence

You have recieved an "item"]

He could not smile even if he felt like it, his body was too paralyzed to. But he was pleased. "An item, about damn time my troubles paid off." He thought to himself.

He laid there for a minute or two before deciding to see his loot:

Again he was in the souless void standing in it’s dark expanse, the third page of the screen materialised before him.

Eryndor looked at the screen in distaste for a long time before saying. "What kind of half assed description is that? Aren’t these things supposed to be helpful?"

He stretched out his hand causing the two white orbs that signified his items to be pulled towards him. They cracked open and he saw his items m, the white dagger and a huge dark leather armour that looked like the scales of the beast he had slain. It looked unappealing and ridiculous to him but he swallowed his pride, having armour was better than not having one. He stretched out his hand and touched the armour and it’s turned to a whirlpool that coiled around his body and soon became the armour he had seen earlier.

The moment the transformation was done Eryndor fell to his knees and cried from the weight. "Argh! What gives, it’s like I’m wearing a boulder. Is this how big that fish was?" He groaned and struggled to move but failed to.

If things would be this hard then he would rather not use the armour, selling it would be a much better profit. But why would the legacy give him something so uncool and unbearable to wear.

"Wait, what are these things enchantments?" He asked himself as he used the power of his left eye on it.

[Item Enchantments:

Just a strong armour type of the lowest tier, nothing extra

Special Enchantment: None]

Eryndor felt his eye twitch after reading the text. "Is this thing trying to annoy me. Why do I have to wear something so heavy and it’s not even special, I almost died for that." But then again the legacy never seemed to care what situation it’s chosen wielded was under. It was a brutal relationship they shared.

Eryndor pulled himself out of the soul void to the real world forgetting he still had the armour on causing it to come back with him and burden his already burdened body. As he was about cursing himself for his mistake he noticed that something was off, ever since he had woken up in the middle of the strange crater he had sensed it. It was not till he had calmed his head that he noticed it.

After thinking long and hard he finally realised what was off. The soul in his left eye was gone and it did not seem to be asleep, it was gone permanently. Eryndor could only link this to the huge crater, though hard to believe he assumed that the soul in the left eye has been the source of the crater and was also responsible for keeping him alive through the night. That would explain why he felt pulled back into consciousness.

The feeling of someone sacrificing their life for him, a degenerate made him uneasy. He shook away the thought and returned the leather hide armour into the soul void before he summoned the ice fang and started to dig into the body of the dark leather gator, it’s hide was impossible to cut through, a testament of how formidable it’s armour would be.

Eryndor would never compromise for his speed, he started to cut out meat from its mouth. After almost an hour of cutting he finally found it’s beast core and set it aside till he cut the meat into a few small strips that could last him till the next day. When he was done he turned his attention back to the beast core which he rinsed in the flowing stream before proceeding to devour it.

The familiar message popped up:

[You have consumed a dormant beast core

You have grown stronger]

He planned to recuperate before going in search of his back up clothes still remaining in the bag that fell from the mountain with him. The world fell into an unusual state of calm a calm that he greatly disapproved of. He had gotten used to the feeling of being attacked at every turn that the silence itself spoke volumes.

Despite his anxiety Eryndor spent another hour sitting at the bank resting. A while later rush of wind so cold that it almost melted his face rushed at him— not him specifically but in that direction. Eryndor’s jaw dropped as he gazed at the sky in the direction of the wind, the expression in his eyes were filled with dread.

"No, damnit. This is going to be bad." His one subtle self had been disrupted as he turned as started to make his way into the forest. "I need to find cover as soon as I can."

He had found out why the forest around him was too quiet, if not for his elf ears and sensed he would have been too late to notice it. "Why did I have to be so damn cursed. A snowstorm is coming and a big on too."

He had seen one happen before while he still stayed in the cottage, his uncle had thought his the signs and how to avoid them. The snow storm on the mountain was a nightmare and anything caught in it would inevitably perish!
