Re: Elf Prince—A Degenerate's Second Chance-Chapter 87. Eryndor’s Victory
87. Eryndor’s Victory
With Eryndor’s victory came the inevitable defeat of the mercenaries. The next few days were especially quiet in the forest as the beast kin started to rebuild what had been destroyed, their homes in the trees, the ropes that entangled them. The cascading rope ladders, even the smell of burnt wood was long gone but the scars remained.
The mighty tree still stood string and the survivors of the battle numbering no less than a hundred. No one could stop to think of what would have happened had the elf boy not appeared. The village had called him beast of fire as a tribute to his great glory.
In one of the houses that was built near the center of the mighty trees was a commotion. A dozen little beast children covered the door and windows with their ears pressed on the walls od the house as they actively eavesdropped on the commotion inside. Inside the house was a simple home dwelling with very little furniture that had been saved from the rain of fire that befell them days earlier.
In the small living room was a huge man with short black hair and beast ears and a small tail that had been cut halfway. He had a thick beard and a mean look in his eyes as he looked at the two girls before him whom one was Merylin was still had a portion of her face wrapped in thick green leaves that resembled bandages. Her hands legs and all of her body was also wrapped in bandages, she wore a shirt kneeker that covered only the top half of her upper knee, and a white singlet. Her eyes was glaring right back at the beast man’s.
Aside from these three there was also the presence of a female beast kin with long orange hair and also the old village chief.
"You were instructed not to leave the encampment you know this, no one leaves without a valid reason." The man screamed at Merylin who remained indifferent. "What if you got hurt." 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
Her sister Else wore a simple silk gown, she looked more remorseful than her other half. "I’m sorry father it’s my fault for covering for her and not reporting this matter.
It was then that Merylin’s face softened. "There were adventures hunting the great beast boars, I had to stop them."
Her father rubbed his temples and opened his mouth to speak but the elder female beast cut in with a sweet voice. "My children what your father is trying to say is that you are not allowed to leave no matter the cause."
Merylin ducked her head in shame and mumbled. "Sorry mother, sorry everyone. But what about those two."
The village elder spoke up this time. "I will keep them all detained for now, it matters not if they saved us or not. First and foremost they are outsider who happened to conveniently be around in our moment of need. The first was the healer, who we can not argue is a human species and there’s the even more serious case of the boy who conveniently wielded the exact same element as the one used to attack them. Was it ever such a coincidence in the first place. Perhaps he is their leader in disguise who plans go infiltrate is."
Meryling barked at the chief leader and said. "I also hate outsiders but that boy saved the whole village, instead of keeping him locked up like an animal pets heat him out. It’s the least we can do."
They all knew he did deserve it. He had saved their lives and asked nothing in return.
"How is it that you are so interested in him?" Elze asked with a cheeky smile.
Merylin frowned back and said. "We are in his gratitude."
The mother of the two beast girl’s smiled and said in a low tone. "Sounds like you might actually be concerned for him little one."
Merylin pouted her cheeks and gave an annoyed look on her face before saying. "It’s only natural, he half dead because of me and I’m not the little one. Elze is, I’m older than her by five minutes."
Her mother smiled as she slipped into one of the chairs and said. "I should know I was there."
Her father sighed and flexed his eyebrow. "What do we do about the intruders."
The question was addressed to the village elder who kept quiet as he took a drink of water and set it back in the tray before him. He held on tight to the staff in his hand and thought to himself for a long while before saying out loud.
"For centuries out people have remained here in hiding, unlike other nations or colonies the beast people are known to be scattered not because we have no home but simply because we are not tied to the king and because of this we lesser tribes are picked off and hunted. Though we have a lot to be grateful for to these intruders, and our survival was because of them but we can not also throw away the fact that the location of our village has been exposed." He paused for a bit before continuing.
"None of the enemies we captured spoke a word and they did not seem to be affiliated to the adventure’s guild." He paused again for longer this time and thought back to the events of three days ago. He had never seen such a powerful foe and most especially not another more powerful being.
The boy was resonating with primal magic though the magic did not seem to be his, the elder could not help but think if he might be an invaluable helper. Though he had been asleep since the event, they could dispose of him if they wanted but if he was kept alive as an ally, could they perhaps call on him in the face of another threat?
The elder rose to his feet and used his staff for support, he turned to the door and said. "Give me a few more days to decide with the elders of the village, this is a matter of great concern and we are all involved in this."
Merylin did not know how to feel at the moment or se did not know how to express what she felt. She was deeply worried and puzzled as to the safety of the young elf mostly because he had been put in the same cage as their special criminal.
