Chapter 88: 88. The Special Prisoner

88. The Special Prisoner

High in the trees the buildings on the trees had been reconstructed to resemble what they had looked like before the attack. Despite their victory the scars of the battle were still left engraved in their minds, the once peaceful air they shared had been shattered like a thin wall of glass.

The one structure that stood apart from the wooden houses the beast kin lived in was the huge steel cage that was in the shape of the semi circle with hundreds of steel bars. Within was a small space enough to hold a few dozen people, what held this cage up was a line of thick chain holding it to one of the higher branches of the mighty tree.

The cage was covered in a bed of leaves and aside from that there was not much to be desired for living since it was clearly a place for criminals. All of the mercenaries that had been caught died within twenty four hours of the next day of a strange causes, their bodies drying up like husks hollow and barren even the bloods in their bodies dried up. But none of them were kept in the cage, the people who were currently within the cage were the special prisoner, Elise the healer of the nameless head party and Eryndor who still lay unconscious in the bed of leaves that had been piled up like a bed.

As Eryndor slept the one who knelt next to him was Elise who had spent most of her time in the past three days healing him. Over the past days despite showing great recovery she could not see any signs of him becoming consciousness any time soon.

In this time the special prisoner had not addressed her or said anything to her, he spent most of his time asleep and the time he spent awake he usually just looked at her but she could tell he was observing Eryndor. Elise had always been shy when meeting new people but she mustered up the courage to approach the strange prisoner but he did not pay her much interest and simply threw her off with a few words like.

"Buzz off."

"I’m busy."

"Seriously?"

She prayed the white haired elf boy would wake up soon, though she knew nothing about him she did believe that he would be more accommodating. She noticed how pale the boy looked as if he lacked nutrition for a long time, despite his young age she could tell that he had been through a lot. She could see small scars on his body, and his mana core and mana veins seemed to be greatly stressed. It was like the concept for rest never applied to his body so she proceeded to restore his body and mana veins to a much better state.

Unknown to her Eryndor had become used to the process to tracing mana down his mana veins over and over again that it was becoming a habit.

"Who’s he?" A deep dark voice spooked Elise from behind causing her to shriek in fear. She jerked her head back and look at the strange prisoner as he stood behind her. Her eyes went white with fear not knowing how he had crossed over to her from the far end of the cage without hearing him coming.

It was the first time he had approached her openly or talked to her so she did not know how to react to it at first. Elise hated the violation of space but it did not seem to bother her that much since she had been used to the torments of Garult of the nameless head party.

"Q- quit it." She stuttered.

The strange prisoner drew back gently and ran his hand down his shaggy red hair, it grew and overlapped one of his eyes. The only visible eye was crimson and showing a hint of a distant emotion, his face was more masculine than that of the white haired elf boy, he looked more muscular but also looked young. Younger than her but also older than the elf boy.

Elise was a bit offended that he did not apologize or show any hint of it, he just stared at her with a look she despised. It was like he was not seeing her as a person but as an inanimate object, her mind started to ask her why he was there in the cage. She had met him here so he must have been there longer so he was was still a mystery. She thought for a moment if he was perhaps a serial killer but shook the thought away, he looked the part though but she did not want to dwell on it further.

"A- are you g- going to say something, you creep?" She tried to hide her fear but it could be evident as she broke into hot sweat and pushed her glasses back into her face.

The strange prisoner said nothing and then looked over to the white haired elf where he still lay unconscious. His eyes darkened with a look of melancholy that caused Elise to jump from fright.

"No, don’t tell me. He is a serial killer." She thought to himself.

A moment later the strange prisoner started to approach the elf boy, out of protection Elise jumped in before him and held her arms wide. She was much taller than him by two feet so she hoped she would be more intimidating than him. She was an adult and he was a child so she had more authority but he was a prisoner for a crime she knew nothing if and she was victim of circumstances. When all came to all in the real world it all came down to who was stronger and who was not.

"What are you planning to do to him you creep?" She asked in a loud voice.

The strange prisoner did not say anything but instead looked straight where her huge chest bounced before his face and shoved her away from him. Elise tripped and fell on her back, a loud cry escaped her lungs.

"No don’t hurt him", she cried.

The strange prisoner paused and looked down at the boy then back at her then back at the boy, he then said. "He’ll be dead soon unless I save."
