Re-Overlord: I Can Acquire Anything!-Chapter 128: Confession To Evernight
Chapter 128: Confession To Evernight
Afterward, Igaris returned to his residence and allowed himself a rare moment of rest. His body, still heavy from his previous exertions, eased into a calm state as he drew in slow, measured breaths. The quiet of the room brought peace, and the spiritual energies within his inner world circulated on their own, aiding his recovery.
Nearby, Founder Jian had chosen a place just beyond the main chamber. There, in a quiet corner of the residence, he sat in deep meditation, not only restoring his vitality but also keeping silent watch over his new master. To him, this role was no burden. Having carried the weight of the sect’s legacy for centuries, this duty felt lighter, purer in purpose.
It was not about submission. It was about worthiness.
Jian Longchen had seen it. The power sleeping within Igaris was not ordinary. No mere genius or chosen one, but something greater, something fate itself whispered about.
He was certain that this young man would not only defy the heavens, but force them to kneel.
Elsewhere in the residence, Igaris sensed a familiar restlessness. Without delay, he summoned her.
In a swirl of dim silver light and shadow, Evernight appeared. Her posture was poised, her every movement laced with grace and restrained power. Her long, white gown shimmered like midnight waters under starlight, and her sharp gaze betrayed no joy.
She appeared in the room without a word and seated herself on the plush couch, crossing one leg over the other, arms folded, chin raised.
"That’s it," she declared coldly. "I am not going back inside you anytime soon. I have decided. I will live in this world for some time."
Igaris chuckled softly. His voice carried the warmth of both fondness and amusement.
"No problem, Calypso. You may stay however you like."
She looked away to avoid his gentle gaze.
The use of her true name stirred something in her chest. She pursed her lips and looked away, but her cheeks colored faintly.
"Hmph. You always know how to twist my mood. And won’t that human girl mind me staying by your side all the time?" she said in a sour tone, jealousy thick in the air.
Seated on the bed, Igaris smiled as he watched her frustrated expression.
"What’s with the sour tone? Are you jealous, perhaps?" he asked, though he was already certain. He needed to appease her before she got out of control.
"Tsk. Why would I be jealous? Am I your Lover or something?" she scoffed, folding her arms. "I am just an old witch who has lived for centuries. There’s nothing that can affect my heart or mind," she declared coldly, facing him directly.
Igaris leaned back slightly, resting his palms on the edge of the bed. His calm gaze never left her. The subtle amusement in his eyes deepened as she turned her head defiantly, refusing to meet his eyes.
"An old witch?" he repeated with a soft chuckle. "If you are one, then I must be the foolish man who fell under your spell long ago."
Evernight’s brows in surprise by the unexpected news. Though her heart already beating fast.
"Wh-what do you mean by that My Liege?"
Igaris watched her proud face, her narrowed purple eyes trying to mask the storm within. For a moment, he said nothing, only letting the silence speak.
Then, he slowly stood up from the bed and walked over to her. He stood before her, close enough for her to feel the warmth of his presence.
"Evernight," he said softly, his voice unusually calm. "I need to confess something to you.."
She blinked once, surprised at the change in tone.
"I have seen the end of the world. I have seen realms burn and loved ones vanish. I have defied countless fates, but there has only ever been one constant in all of them."
She looked up, eyes slightly wide.
"You," he said plainly. "No matter how much power I gained, no matter how many titles they gave me, it was your presence that anchored me."
’What is he talking about?’
She parted her lips to speak, but he stepped closer.
"You have always been with me. In life and in death. In battle and in silence. You’ve stood beside me as a shadow, as a sword, as a companion, and as a woman. Still if you’re worried about Shirley taking your place...
He shook his head gently.
"Then I must tell you. I do not want a world where you are not by my side. You’re mine, and no one can take you away from me."
Evernight’s breath caught in her throat. Her mask of cold elegance cracked, and her eyes trembled.
"I love you, Calypso," he said. "Not because of what you are, or what you’ve done, but because you are you. And if you choose to stay, I will never let you feel forgotten again."
Her lips quivered. He’s confessing to me? How the hell did it come to this point?
"What are you saying, My Liege? When did I ever do anything to make you fall for an old woman like me?" she finally asked, her voice trembling.
Igaris held her soft hand, gently caressing her palm. "You’re not old, Calypso. To me, You’re the maiden of moon. And if you truly want to know how I fell for you, then listen closely."
Evernight, feeling the warmth of his touch, involuntarily closed her eyes. She felt slight discomfort for breaching the personal space so suddenly.
And yet she didn’t removed her hand from his. Instead, she readied herself to take in the secrets he was about to unveil.
Igaris brought her hand gently to his chest, where his heartbeat pulsed strong and steady.
Evernight’s eyes opened instantly, caught by the sincerity in his deep blue gaze.
"The moment I laid eyes on you in that forsaken place, I knew you were someone important to me. And when you protected me, I fell for you even more. But our story does not start or end there."
He took a slow breath, his voice soft but filled with weight.
"It goes beyond that. It stretches into the future. Yes, I have been reborn. I came back to this time... just so I could meet you again. You, and the others."
