Reawakening: Primordial Dragon with Limitless Mana-Chapter 14: Unexpected help
Chapter 14: Unexpected help
Hades was standing at the edge of the rooftop. The same place where he was tortured a few days ago.
It has been three days since his fathe—no, the Count, visited him and told him the truth which he already knew but never wanted to accept.
Naturally, Tia had to return with him since her parents and ancestors had been serving the Thornebalde family for ages. So, she had no choice.
The school continued with its usual routine. Students were attending classes. Teams were going on raids. The world was flowing as usual for everyone except him.
The new Captain of the Alpha team was Cedric—naturally. Hades was regarded as an unfit member to lead the team and for the mistake he committed, he would have to start from an ungrouped individual and regain his position in a team.
This was the first time in his life that Hades was feeling so helpless and alone. Maybe because in the past when everyone ignored him, his mother was by his side. And in the Academy, he made himself a reputation through his strength that everyone always surrounded him—admired him.
And now, he has neither.
’It seems it will rain...’ he said as he looked at the dark sky.
Leaning slightly forward, he looked at the height at which he stood.
Falling from here won’t cost him his life, but surely it would put him to bed for a week.
[Have you finally lost it?]
Hades frowned as he heard the voice.
He looked around and realized that he indeed was hearing the voice inside his head.
"So, I was right. You are inside me." Hades muttered—he had been feeling as if something had been trying to talk to him for the past few days.
It turned out, he wasn’t hallucinating because of depression.
[I waited, for this long, for this moment. A time when you would be severely vulnerable.]
Hades scoffed, "So you can take over my body?"
[Why would I try taking over your body when I am you? I am a part of you—locked inside somewhere.]
Hades sat down at the edge, his legs dangling, "So...why did you remain hidden for so long?"
[Because I was afraid that after knowing my...or to say, your real identity, you might stab and kill yourself.]
"..." Hades turned silent as he soon realized what kind of entity he was talking to, "...you are a dragon."
[Yes.]
Came a direct response.
Hades sighed—he was right. In the past, or more like two weeks ago, if he had learned that something inside him was draconic, then he might as well have surrendered and allowed people to burn him.
But now, things have changed. He doesn’t look at humans with a filter of positivity. They are evil humans too.
"What are you...and what am I? I have no recollection of what I was before I was delivered to Count Thorneblade’s doorstep."
[You are a being whom many strong and influential dragons want to be dead. That’s why the one who brought you to existence sent you away to protect you.]
Hades narrowed his eyes, "Why is that?"
[That...you need to find out yourself. My duty is to help you build your strength so you can return to the dragon’s plain and claim your throne.]
Hades scoffed, "Just because I am injured doesn’t mean I am weak. And second, I am not going anywhere."
The inner voice remained constantly neutral when responding,
[First, you are strong from human standards. In front of a few elder-ranked, you would be toast in the blink of an eye. Second, now that I have awakened, the other dragons would sniff your presence and chase after you. That’s why it’s better to be prepared to not only protect yourself but those as well whom you care about.]
Hades groaned. Why does he have to be entangled with those beings in this manner? Couldn’t he have just continued to hunt them like always?
A brief pause was discontinued with a question, "Let’s say, I trust you and accept the fact that I am a dragon," he cringed while saying that, "....how are you going to help me get stronger?"
[Simple, I will offer you a system.]
[Initializing System Core...]
[Linking neural pathways...]
[Establishing synchronization with host...]
[Analyzing host vitals and cognitive load...]
[Compiling feature modules...]
[Ding! System integration complete. All core functions are operational.]
[Would the host like to initiate a feature walkthrough?]
[Input Required: Y/N]
Hades frowned as so many words suddenly popped before his face as he asked, "The hell is this?"
[Oh, right. Humanity has lost the culture of these things. Well, to summarize, this is like a directory that will tell you about your progress in different fields, assign you tasks to help you grow, and many other things.]
"And you believe this will help me?"
[If it couldn’t, I wouldn’t have offered it to you.]
Hades sighed as he looked back at the system screens.
He was about to press the ’Y’ when suddenly, a familiar voice called out,
"What are you doing here?!"
Hades turned to look at the girl and was surprised to see her worried visage.
The girl who had received the title of the Holy Saintess. The one who is respected by both—the new Alpha team’s captain and the Church.
And the strongest healer Hades had ever come across.
Rinne.
’Why is she here?’
