Reawakening: Primordial Dragon with Limitless Mana-Chapter 15: The truth-1
Chapter 15: The truth-1
He hadn’t expected to see that familiar silver head here.
"Rinne..." he called out, trying to sound casual. "When did you get back?"
He hadn’t seen her around lately—but then again, he hadn’t exactly been leaving his room much, either.
She walked toward him slowly, her eyes never leaving his face. "What were you doing here?" she asked, the same question again.
Hades blinked. Was this spot special to her or something?
"I just came up here to clear my head," he said with a shrug.
But she didn’t stop. Step by careful step, she continued closing the distance, her eyes still cautious, still searching his expression.
He stayed quiet, unsure what to make of her mood—until she suddenly grabbed his hand.
"What—"
With a sharp tug, she pulled him away from the edge. He stumbled, landing hard on the rooftop tiles with a soft thud.
"Haa~" She let out a long breath, like she’d been holding it in for far too long.
He stared at her in silence.
...Did she really think he was about to jump?
Damn.
"I know things have been rough lately," Rinne said, patting her chest as if trying to steady her breath. "But you can’t do anything reckless."
Hades kept his eyes respectfully focused on her face, resisting any temptation to glance where he shouldn’t. He answered calmly, "As I said, I was just here for the breeze. I’m not the kind to throw my life away."
[Oh, but weren’t you just thinking about it?]
That inner voice again. Persistent. Irritating.
"Anyway," he said, brushing off the thought, "when did you get back? And how’s your grandmother?" He’d heard from Cedric during the raid that she’d returned home to check on her sick grandmother.
Rinne froze at the mention, her gaze sharpening as she looked at him.
"I need to tell you something," she said, summoning her staff. "Umm... can you come a little closer? I need to cast a soundproofing dome."
Hades raised a brow. With her skill, shouldn’t she be able to cover the whole rooftop from where she stood? But he didn’t question it and stepped forward.
She gestured again. "A little more."
He hesitated, suddenly wary. She wasn’t about to stab him or something, was she?
’No hostile intent...’ he reassured himself. Still, he took the final step, standing just inches from her.
Rinne exhaled softly, almost like his presence let her breathe easier. Then, tapping the staff against the rooftop, a dome shimmered to life, sealing them in a private bubble.
"Mind if we sit? My legs feel a little shaky."
He nodded and they sat down, shoulders nearly brushing. The closeness made the silence heavier.
Growing impatient, Hades finally asked, "What’s going on, Rinne? You vanished without a word, and now you’re here with me when you could be catching up with your team."
"I’m with you," she said, eyes meeting his, "because that’s where I belong."
He frowned, unsure what she meant.
"Believe it or not, the only reason I joined that team was because of you. So don’t tell me to go anywhere else."
Hades exhaled, frustration creeping into his voice. "Even after everything... despite what I caused, you’re still—" freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
"What did you cause?" she cut in, firm. "Someone set you up, and you’re blaming yourself for it?"
Hades blinked, stunned. His voice lowered. "You... you know who did it?"
Until now, he only had suspicions. That mysterious warning from the administration—left in his room like a planted seed of guilt—wasn’t something he could explain. But now, Rinne’s expression told him she knew far more than he expected.
Her gaze drifted ahead, voice laced with quiet anger. "My grandma was never sick. She’s completely fine."
"What?" Hades sat up straighter. "Then—"
"Someone sent me a letter. Written in the head maid’s handwriting. I had no choice but to go home and check for myself."
Hades felt a cold chill run down his spine.
This wasn’t just a coincidence.
"Why?" he muttered. "Why remove you from the group? With all due respect, Rinne... even you wouldn’t have stood a chance against a Duke-ranked enemy."
She shook her head. "That’s not it, Hades. This wasn’t about removing an obstacle. This person didn’t want me to be hurt during the raid. That’s why he made sure I was far away."
Her hands clenched around her staff as she continued. "He was the first one to receive the official report about the dragon sighting—but he never warned the others. Not a single word."
"And more than that... every suggestion he gave you before and during the mission was crafted to look harmless—but they were all words that could later be used to incriminate you during the trial."
Hades’ mind reeled. His breath caught in his throat.
"...You’re not saying—it’s Cedric?" he whispered, as if saying the name out loud would make it worse.
But Rinne didn’t hesitate.
"I’m not saying it," she said quietly. "I know. Cedric is the one who framed you. And because of him... Graham is dead."
