Chapter 30: Leader(2)

The leader of the herd...it has to be as strong as a solitary rank dragon.

However, his aura signified he was stronger than his estimation.

Drakes could be found all around this area, but they mostly remain hidden or hunt in different regions.

But because the convoy was attacked, the magical presence of the assailants and the defenders must have attracted them.

And now, the tribal chief who should have remained hidden until the end; given its position, has come out.

And the only reason Hades could think of: it feels threatened in its position as an Alpha.

{Ding!}

{A quest has been assigned!}

{Chaos is caused not by mere destruction but by the disturbance in hierarchy and the fall of a significant being.}

{Task: Slaughter the Alpha}

{Reward: +20 Stat points}

Hades frowned...this was something new.

However, he couldn’t remain focused on the system screen for long.

The dragon slithered its way to him, and just when Hades believed he would be facing the dragon head-on, it twirled and swung its spiky tail at him.

"Fuck!" He cursed as he was completely taken off guard.

The tail hit his chest and sent him rolling away like a rag doll.

Pushing himself off the sand, Hades growled and prepared for the onslaught.

The air shifted around the two as the Drake let out a low growl, lowering its body like a predator ready to pounce.

It didn’t lunge recklessly.

No, it was watching—waiting—its narrow pupils tracking every twitch in Hades’ legs.

Hades didn’t wait either.

With a pulse of mana, he dashed forward, fists charged with glowing blue energy. He launched a clean uppercut into the beast’s chin.

Crack!

Drake’s head jerked back. Sand scattered. But the creature didn’t even stumble—it snapped forward like a spring trap.

Its jaw came down fast.

Hades sidestepped, barely avoiding the bite—but the Drake wasn’t done.

Its hind leg swung around low, sweeping toward Hades’ feet like a steel club.

"Shit!" Hades grunted as he jumped, but the edge of the claw scraped his shin.

He landed hard, skidding backward, sparks of pain shooting up his leg.

Not wasting a second, the Drake slammed its heavy tail down where Hades had fallen.

Boom!

The sand was scattered.

But Hades was gone again—his mana flaring as he shot behind the beast, both fists slamming into its exposed back.

The hit landed.

The Drake staggered forward, dust and scales flying. But even while falling, it twisted, using its momentum to spin and whip its tail sideways.

This time, Hades ducked.

The tail whistled past his head by inches, leaving a violent gust in its wake.

He rose fast—slamming his palm into the Drake’s side.

BOOM!

The force blew the creature off-balance, its claws dragging trenches through the sand as it tried to stay upright.

It growled now—not just in pain, but in anger.

It turned again, jaw open.

Heat filled the air. A deep rumble came from the Drake’s throat as a swirling vortex of flame formed in front of its mouth.

"Dragon’s breath? From a Drake?" someone gasped in disbelief.

"Why isn’t Hades moving?" another voice asked, eyes wide.

This time, Jasmine exhaled with a faint smile and answered calmly, "Because that dragon’s breath will be the end of that dragon."

SCHFOOOO!

A violent blast of fire erupted from the Drake’s maw, a wave of blazing heat swallowing Hades whole.

Flames roared across the battlefield, the light so bright it made everyone shield their eyes.

Inside the inferno, Hades stood still.

The heat licked at his skin, but he didn’t flinch. Instead, a dry chuckle escaped his throat.

’Compared to the fire in that cave... this is nothing. This actually tickles.’

His skin began to glow faintly—cracks of light tracing across his body like molten lines.

Then, he moved.

Slow and deliberate.

Every step he took drew the flames into him, the fire bending and curling into his skin like obedient servants.

The Drake paused.

Its attack was still raging—yet its prey was walking through it, unharmed... unfazed... untouched.

Hades emerged from the heart of the blaze.

His shirt was torn to shreds. His body glowed red-hot. Mana pulsed from his form, thick and heavy.

His hair danced wildly in the heat, and his crimson eyes burned brighter than the flames around him.

The Drake stepped back.

It didn’t need to be told. It felt it.

This being in front of it was something it couldn’t defeat.

Hades reached the Drake. He didn’t raise his hand. Didn’t threaten. He simply looked.

That was enough.

The Drake lowered its head—slowly, humbly—bowing before the figure that had just walked through fire as if it were mist.

The battlefield went silent.

All the heat converged to Hades’s foot before he stomped over the head of the Alpha, easily penetrating through flesh and skull, and claiming its life—painless and quick.

The other drakes had already escaped, knowing what was best to survive.

Hades sighed before looking down at himself. He had received a few scratches and burns, but not enough to slow him down.

He turned towards the convoy and found Rinne rushing toward him.

The others were helping the priests and checking on Father Christopher.

"Rinne," Hades called out as the girl arrived before him.

She raised her glowing hand and began moving it down his torso as she said, "Truth be told, I really want to kiss you right now."

Her male god was showing such a dangerous sight.... She could barely hold herself from pouncing on him and sating her craving.

Hades wryly smiled, "Please refrain...unless you want me to fight Cedric right here." He could feel the Prince glaring at him from a distance.

Rinne chuckled, "Well, that would certainly please my eyes. But not now. Let him burn a little more." She intentionally touched his body while letting him see it all.

Hades shook his head with a sigh seeping through his lips.

Just then, the system notified,

{Quest achieved!}

{You have stirred the core!}
