Rebirth: Building the Strongest Party with my Overpowered Harem.-Chapter 35: Dancing corpse.
Ahhhhh!
The screams of the people echoed throughout Sikone City as the citizens began to run for their lives.
Monsters, spider-like creatures, had begun to wreak havoc, tormenting anyone they ran into.
Most of the adventurers that the guild had sent out to control the situation were barely able to get anything done.
"Shit! Where do they keep coming from?" one of the adventurers yelled as multiple human-sized spiders grew out of the ground.
Other adventurers had their work cut out for them as they were busy trying to get others to safety.
’Dammit!’
The adventurer stood his ground, knowing damn well it would take at least three of himself to stand a chance against beating one of the spiders.
Rakkkk!
A shriek left the spider’s mouth as it charged towards the adventurer.
Fear crept in, and the man dropped his blade, hands over his head as he screamed.
"I don’t want to die! Ahhh, help me please!"
What came next was a booming sound that sent enough shock waves to almost knock him off his feet.
Opening his eyes, he could get a clear vision of the one who had saved him.
It was none other than their infamous adventurer from the Hunter’s Guild, Dancing Corpse, Filo, the Destroyer.
Her vibrant silver hair danced in the wind as she tried to remove her foot from the spider’s head that she had somehow crushed.
Dressed in a fur-like dress, she looked at the man, completely ignoring the two monster spiders behind her.
"You there..." she called out to the adventurer whilst pointing at him.
The man, still awed at her beauty, snapped out of it, "H-hia!"
"Just to be sure, everyone has been evacuated from the area, right?"
"Des...troyer... your back..." The man shook as he pointed behind her.
"Hmm..."
Filo sighed once she realized the spiders had gotten close and were trying to hit her.
"I seriously hate bugs."
Basshah!
A single strike from her and both spiders burst open, their body parts scattering everywhere.
The man was once again amazed.
The female destroyer, known to be the second in command in the Dancing Corpse, also an S+ rank, was right in front of him.
"Incredible." Those words slipped from his lips.
"Ah- looks like it’s too late, the others are here already. You, please confirm if everyone has been evacuated. We need to rid this place of the monsters without any worries," Filo issued to the man.
Unfortunately, her lips were only moving; not a single word got to the man.
Reason being, the rest of the Dancing Corpse had arrived, and he was experiencing it firsthand.
One by one, they leaped from building to building, coming in in huge numbers.
Anyone would be comfortably shock-ridden at their presence.
The biggest Hunter guild in all of Sikone.
"Okay, I’ll be going now."
Filo leaped away.
The spiders that had been destroying the city were now getting butchered by the Dancing Corpse.
Each one of the members was going toe-to-toe with the monsters. Actually, they were completely overpowering them.
Landing at the center of the road, Filo watched as Veronica was busy sucking a spider into her palm with her magic.
"You came earlier than I expected. Were you guys waiting close by or something?" Filo asked as she walked.
All around her were members of her guild, happily dismembering other monsters.
"What do you mean close by? My darling called for my help, and I showed up. I’m guessing the others came with Alice, because I didn’t," Veronica responded, her hand now resting on her waist.
"To think it was just this part of the city being spider-infested. Not what I’d call a good job to take. Sigh, the other adventurers are so weak; imagine not being able to do simple pest control."
"Still as annoying as ever, I see. Well, according to Seraphin, it was a dungeon break. Apparently, some adventurers failed to contain it."
Veronica glared, "My darling is way too kind. I don’t understand why we don’t just leave this damn city already. They are useless."
"Speaking of, where is Lord Adonis right now?" Filo leaned forward.
Veronica pointed at the far distance towards the forest in response to her question.
"He said the main boss is there, and he wants to go take care of it."
"What? Really? He promised he would take me whenever he wanted to fight again." Filo pouted, clearly upset about it.
Adonis in question was seated on a statue, watching as everyone was busy clearing out the monsters from the city.
A smile couldn’t help but play on his lips.
’They don’t need my help. Well, I say that, but I went ahead and did this.’
He was now looking in front of him.
Tied to the ground with magic-coated chains was a monster in a hooded cloak. Its black shadowy face was filled with enough darkness to probably swallow a person.
According to what Adonis learned from Seraphin, this monster was supposedly the only one to have escaped the dungeon.
She called them The Asparagus.
It would have easily been overlooked since a dungeon break happens every now and then.
Except this time, it had happened multiple times in the past weeks, and all happened to be from the very same monsters, the Asparagus.
Anytime these monsters were caught, they immediately disappeared or vanished.
Hence why Adonis took this particular one into his own hands.
Staring at the monster, he noticed the slight glitch on its body, as if trying to escape its bondage.
"Oh? Is this how you escape from the others? Ah wait, you might be a different one. Are there more of you, or are you all just the same person?"
There was no response.
Sighing, Adonis leaped down from the statue, hands in his pockets as he began to walk towards the monster.
Once he was close, he bent in front of it, staring into its darkness for a face.
Suddenly, a voice echoed in Adonis’s head.
(This human is terrifying. His chains keep me bound; I can’t teleport. How do I report this to the boss?)
Adonis could clearly read its mind.
"You have a boss? That clears up that part. So you’re working for someone."
Hearing this, the monster’s red eyes glowed, vividly expressing how surprised he was.
"You can speak the tongue of monsters?!" the monster asked outright.
"That is what you’re worried about? Not the fact I can read your mind? I’m a little disappointed in you, Thomas."
"Thomas? That is not my name."
"In any case, I believe I asked you a question earlier; are there more of you? Or just one?"
The monster stayed quiet.
"This is usually the place where you start explaining, but it seems like you really do want me to go over to the extreme," Adonis spoke calmly, "Daki."
Immediately, a dark mist poured from the side, from which a dark soldier, having a human form, standing at least 6ft tall with a giant blade in one hand, showed up.
Her name was Daki, and she was a monster Adonis had revived during his battle against an S-rank gate a few weeks back.
As of now, she was his third strongest soldier, taking the rank of Rook.
"You summoned me, my king," Daki uttered, the voice of death itself.
"Yes, Daki dear, would you mind torturing this monster for me? Make it as slow as you can, just to savor the moment."
"As you wish."
Just as he had instructed, Daki carried on.
Spinning her blade to the side, she stabbed the monster’s hand to the ground.
Nothing seemed to happen right after, until...
"Arrrrrgh!" The monster screamed; the blade that was right in his hand had begun to forcefully zap out its mana.
"There we go, just the reaction I was expecting. Unlike monsters from the gate, you lots are created and made by the mana from the dungeons; without that, you wouldn’t exist. Now imagine if something sucked out all that mana... you’ll cease to exist, and feel pain as it would seem."
As Daki stopped, the monster uttered hastily -
"I am the only one! I am able to freely move around to different dungeons because my master gave me that will."
Adonis looked to the side, waiting for the system notification to pop up.
[The Truth has been spoken.]
Adonis looked back at the monster.
"If I understand you, you make a dungeon break happen, then move to another dungeon to do the next one? Is that correct?"
"Yes...I...I simply enslave the monsters and make them strong enough to battle before I do so. As you know, monsters can break out of a dungeon once they have grown stronger than the dungeon."
"And why would your leader want that?"
"To make an army for his return. If I fail, he would surely send another. My master wants to dominate the human world and claim it as his own."
Adonis glared.
"This master of yours, who exactly is he?" Adonis asked.
"I’m afraid even I don’t know."
