Rebirth Immortal-Chapter 43: Entering the Underground City
Chapter 43: Entering the Underground City
The night air was cold as Ye Chen, Lin Xia, and Zhao Ming left the small town behind. The road ahead was dark, with only the faint moonlight guiding their way. The underground city was still miles away, hidden deep in the mountains, but Ye Chen knew they had no choice.
If they stayed in the town, more assassins would come.
Lin Xia tightened her cloak around her shoulders. "I've heard about this underground city before. It's dangerous. Criminals, rogue cultivators, and people who have nowhere else to go."
Zhao Ming smirked. "Sounds like the perfect place for us right now."
Ye Chen remained silent. He wasn't worried about the dangers inside the city. He was more concerned about the forces hunting him. Whoever had sent that assassin wouldn't stop. They would send stronger enemies next.
After a few hours of walking, they reached the foot of a mountain. There were no signs of a city—only rocks and trees.
Lin Xia frowned. "Are you sure this is the place?"
Ye Chen nodded. He stepped forward and knocked three times on a large rock. Nothing happened at first. Then, the ground trembled slightly, and a deep voice spoke from the darkness.
"Password."

Zhao Ming's eyes widened. "There's a password?"
Ye Chen smirked. He had learned about this from an old scroll long ago. He spoke calmly, "The moon hides, the stars fade."
For a moment, there was silence. Then, the rock slowly moved, revealing a narrow passage leading underground. A cold, damp breeze rushed out.
Lin Xia shivered. "Creepy."
Ye Chen led the way, stepping inside. Lin Xia and Zhao Ming followed closely behind. As they walked down the dark tunnel, torches lit up on both sides, casting eerie shadows on the stone walls.
At the end of the tunnel, a heavy iron gate blocked their way. Two large guards stood on either side, their expressions cold and menacing.
One of the guards held out his hand. "Entrance fee. Ten gold coins each."
Zhao Ming scowled. "That's robbery!"
The guard didn't blink. "No money, no entry."
Ye Chen took out a small pouch and tossed it to the guard. "This should be enough."
The guard checked the coins, then nodded. He knocked twice on the gate, and with a loud creak, it slowly opened.
"Welcome to Black Fang City," the guard said with a smirk.
As they stepped inside, Ye Chen took a deep breath. The underground city was vast, much larger than he had expected. Buildings made of dark stone lined the narrow streets, their windows glowing with dim lantern light. The air was filled with the scent of smoke, alcohol, and something metallic—probably blood.
People moved through the streets in silence. Hooded figures whispered in dark corners, merchants sold strange items from wooden stalls, and groups of rough-looking cultivators eyed newcomers with suspicion.
Lin Xia kept close to Ye Chen. "I don't like this place."
Zhao Ming grinned. "I do. Look at all the rare weapons!"
Ye Chen's eyes swept across the crowd. "We're not here to shop. We need information."
He led them to a small tavern at the edge of the city. The sign above the door was old and cracked, but the name was still visible—The Serpent's Den.
Inside, the air was thick with the scent of cheap wine and sweat. A few men sat at wooden tables, drinking and laughing loudly. A burly bartender wiped the counter with a dirty rag.
Ye Chen walked up to the bar. "I'm looking for someone who knows about recent assassinations."
The bartender glanced at him, then smirked. "That kind of information isn't free."
Ye Chen placed a silver coin on the counter. "How about now?"
The bartender's smirk widened. He took the coin and leaned in. "Word is, a powerful group has placed a bounty on a certain young cultivator. No name, but the description matches you."
Lin Xia tensed. "Who put up the bounty?"
The bartender shook his head. "No one knows for sure. But the one handling it is a man called 'Scarlet Wolf.' If you want answers, you'll have to find him."
Ye Chen nodded. "Where?"
The bartender chuckled. "That'll cost extra."
Ye Chen's fingers twitched. He was about to force the answer out of the man when a voice interrupted.
"No need to pay. I know where Scarlet Wolf is."
Ye Chen turned. A woman in a dark red dress sat in the corner, her face hidden beneath a black veil. She sipped her wine slowly, then looked up at him.
"Who are you?" Ye Chen asked.
The woman smiled. "Someone who doesn't like Scarlet Wolf."
Zhao Ming raised an eyebrow. "Why help us?"
She leaned back in her chair. "Because if you kill him, it will benefit me."
Lin Xia frowned. "And if we refuse?"
The woman's smile didn't fade. "Then you'll never find him."
Ye Chen studied her for a moment. He didn't trust her, but he had no time to waste.
"Fine," he said. "Where is he?"
The woman's eyes gleamed. "Follow me."
They left the tavern and followed the woman through the narrow streets. She led them deeper into the underground city, where the buildings were older and more broken down.
Finally, she stopped in front of an abandoned warehouse. "Scarlet Wolf is inside," she said.
Ye Chen stepped forward, but Lin Xia grabbed his arm. "Something's wrong."
Zhao Ming narrowed his eyes. "Yeah. Why would a bounty handler be in a place like this?"
Ye Chen turned to the woman. "Is this a trap?"
The woman chuckled. "Of course."
Before Ye Chen could react, the warehouse doors burst open.
A dozen armed men rushed out, weapons drawn.
And standing in the middle was a tall man with red scars across his face.
Scarlet Wolf.
"Well, well," Scarlet Wolf sneered. "The little rat came right to me."
Ye Chen's eyes turned cold. "You should have sent more men."
Scarlet Wolf laughed. "Arrogant fool. Kill him!"
The assassins charged.
Ye Chen's body moved like lightning. He dodged the first attack and struck back, sending an enemy flying with a single punch. Zhao Ming drew his sword, blocking an incoming strike, while Lin Xia unleashed a blast of energy, knocking back two assassins.
Scarlet Wolf watched with a smirk. "Not bad. But let's see how long you last."
He raised his hand, and suddenly, the air turned heavy. A powerful killing intent filled the area.
Lin Xia's face paled. "He's strong!"
Ye Chen smirked. "Good. I was getting bored."
Scarlet Wolf charged at Ye Chen, his fists glowing with dark energy.
Ye Chen met him head-on
