Chapter 63: Lorelei Vs ...Aden?

Aden blinked twice, and double checked if his ears were indeed functional. "What did you say?"

Silence followed and he’d almost believed he’d heard wrongly, before it echoed louder this time.

"I believe you’re not in the best condition to engage the enemies... Lord."

Aden’s lips curved upwards in a cold, life–ending smile. "I see. It would seem you do need discipline after all."

His bones cracked. "I should have enough time for that."

Lorelei’s eyes flung wide in horror, and before she could say anything else, a fist had already been planted squarely on her face.

His voice drained out the muffled groan that followed. "Normally, I would have killed you, but you did me a great service by saving this body."

"Hence," he lifted her up by her throat as he continued with a manic smile. "You shall only lose your ability to speak."

"No! I didn’t—"

*Thump*

A dull thud cut Lorelei’s tear stricken pleas before they could reach his ears. Another punch followed immediately, sending a small spray of blood to splatter on his face.

Brief disgust appeared in his expression, before he tossed her away like a rag doll.

He waved his arm before his face smoothly, and the blood dissapeared without a trace. "To think you’d have the audacity to taint me with your lowly essence."

He took a step forward and closed the distance between himself and Lorelei who was flung in the corner of the cave. "How discourteous."

Another punch flew— slow and controlled, but this time, Lorelei rolled out of its path just in time, anger and disbelief blazing in her eyes."

The earth in the area where Aden had punched caved in deeply, leaving a wide crater that expanded the width of the cave even further.

Aden pulled his fist out the rubble calmly. His head turned to his side— where Lorelei crouched in an attack stance, and a mocking smile graced his lips. "Does the lamb truly believe it’s the shepherd?"

Lorelei spat out a mouthful of blood and pulled out a wrapped object with small inscriptions around its surface.

"One more step and I swear on everything I have ever held dear that I will blow this place to the ground and you shall be buried here with your failed Vassals."

Aden’s lips formed a mocking ’O’ shape. He lifted his right foot exaggeratingly over a pile of rubble and placed it directly before his left foot.

"Ah? I’m still alive, and you’re still holding the bomb? That’s not very honest, now is it?"

A jagged cackle left his lips as he bent over in sheer amusement. "To think I’d be threatened by my own slaves. I knew I should have taken control the minute you came his way."

Lorelei’s eyes sharpened and her expression turned incredibly solemn.

’I was right after all.’

There was one distinctive feature she had noticed about her true Lord ever since she had met him.

He was unreactive most of the time.

If it posed no possible danger to him, he would simply leave it be.

From the first fight she had with him when they had first met, she had already suspected this, but she had to take extra measures to reinforce her theory.

So she played the role of a schemer, luring him in with half–truths to see just how far she could push him and test his knowledge along the way.

She realized his limit after she got beaten up.

Seduction was more of a way to test his mental capabilities and resistance to her affinity which dealt purely on the manipulation of the mind.

He didn’t fall for that either.

She had thought for a fraction of a second that he lacked the proper enablements for such scenarios, but when she changed his garments, she was proved very very wrong.

And over the short time she had been with him, she had always noticed this emptiness that quietly resided in the corner of his eyes.

Not the kind the Aden standing blurring towards her carried, but a hollowness that spoke more of sorrow than intimidation.

"You are not my Lord," she declared as she dodged a blow from Aden— or the current pilot.

"I’m your Lord in every plane of existence, girl," Aden sneered as he fired a kick to the side of her ribs.

Lorelei spat out another mouthful of blood. The fact that she could stand and actively evade the attacks after everything that had happened, spoke loudly of her durability.

She let out a low grunt and a violet energy surrounded her frame. Her eyes changed from the original colour to a deep shade of red, and the ground beneath her caved in a meter.

Aden’s eyes grew unfocused for a millisecond but a casual shake of his head cleared the passive effects of her transformation.

A flicker appeared in his left eye, but quickly died out. "Using your affinity against your Lord severs your contract. You know what that means."

This was the first time whoever was controlling Aden spoke with such seriousness, but Lorelei was unfazed.

A ghost of a smile formed on her lips before her voice echoed in his head, "My true Master does not know of this, so there’s no harm done."

His face twisted in anger and before she knew it, his hands were already fixed on the top of her head, and a force that threatened to crush it traveled to her senses.

But she remained unfazed.

"Get ready to meet him then!" He shouted as he applied enough force to crack her skull open.

Then something truly strange happened.

He blinked and found himself in the exact position he was in before he moved to crush Lorelei’s head.

Lorelei remained in her spot. Her expression serene and her eyes still blazing with that deep red intensity. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

Confusion flickered across his features, but he made no further moves, instead his eyes narrowed.

Lorelei spoke, her voice a fading, yet persistent echo:

"Your mind shall become my playground."
