Chapter 5: Chapter 5 Elder's Joke

The parents of all these kids also work at the station, and they all know each other.

Before even reaching the intersection, there were quite a few people coming to meet them.

After the crowd dispersed in groups of threes and twos, Mrs. Zhen and Mrs. Fu each took their sons and started walking home. For a moment, no one paid any attention to Zhen Yu.

Zhen Yu stood still for a moment, then slowly lifted her feet and followed behind her mother.

"Do you want to go home?" Han Mingyue's voice came from behind her.

"What else?" Zhen Yu retorted as she continued walking forward.

"Or how about you go to my house first to thank my dad?" Han Mingyue suggested tentatively.

Zhen Yu glanced sideways at the young man beside her, somewhat surprised that he would say such a thing.

Wasn't he always modest and polite?

Was it that she had been selectively blind back then, or did she later develop selective amnesia?

But his suggestion made sense; Grandpa Fu had gone to save his own grandson, while Uncle Han had willingly gone to help because she asked him to. So, Zhen Yu nodded and turned towards the direction of Han Family's house, "Let's go, it's the right thing to do!"

Han Mingyue's gaze flickered, and he slowly followed behind Zhen Yu.

She has a secret! Han Mingyue didn't believe a word Zhen Yu had said earlier, but this instance could only be explained by prescience, besides dreaming.

She couldn't possibly have precognitive abilities, right? Han Mingyue was curious, but he had a hunch! Even if he asked again, she would definitely not tell the truth! So he did not inquire further.

Another thing! Zhen Yu's reaction upon seeing him today was odd! Ever since they were kids, his father and Uncle Zhen had always teased them, always saying they should set up a marriage between the two!

When they were younger, she didn't react much to it, but starting probably from last year, whenever she heard his father call "daughter-in-law," she would loudly contradict, and her expression would always be awkward when they met.

Just the other day! They happened to meet, and she was so embarrassed she didn't even know where to put her hands or feet! But today...she kept staring at him and even naturally grabbed his hand and ran, and in their conversations afterward, she didn't show even a hint of awkwardness.

Could it be she suddenly figured things out? Or was it that, busy with rescuing people, she couldn't care less?

It must be said! It's much more comfortable interacting with Zhen Yu like this today!

If only she could always be like this.

Actually, Han Mingyue also felt a bit awkward before! But he thought boys should be more generous, so he always tried to take their elders' jokes in stride. After all, the two families were very familiar with each other, seeing each other all the time; he couldn't just stop interacting with her because of a few jokes!

Walking and thinking, they soon arrived at the Han Family Clinic. Han Mingyue led the way into the house with Zhen Yu following behind.

Mr. Han had changed into fresh clothes and was sitting in the hall smoking. Seeing the two of them, he chuckled and joked, "Oh! The young couple has come back together!"

Han Mingyue suddenly felt like 'he had lifted a rock only to drop it on his own feet,' and could only keep a straight face and dryly explained, "Dad, Xiao Yu came to thank you!"

Zhen Yu's calm expression also cracked for a second, then she quickly interjected, "Uncle Han, thank you! I'll have my dad treat you to dinner, and my brother will kowtow to thank you!"

Mr. Han laughed, "Ha ha! He kowtows but you don't? I can't be calling you daughter-in-law for nothing! Xiao Yu, you should also give Uncle a kowtow!"

That comment was really impossible to follow... Uncle really is Uncle!

Zhen Yu was embarrassingly speechless. She hardly remembered being teased like this in her childhood! Really curious about how she reacted back then! Regrettably, the memory is too distant, and her feelings now are far different from then; she really can't recall it!

Seeing his father's jokes getting more outrageous, Han Mingyue simply pretended not to hear. Stiff-faced, he turned and asked, "Xiao Yu, do you want to hang out here for a bit before leaving?"

Before Zhen Yu could respond, Mr. Han spoke up first. "What's the hurry to go back? Your mom is at home! Stay at Uncle's place for a bit! Go play in Ming Yue's room for a while!"

Han Mingyue: "..."

Zhen Yu: "..."

She actually wouldn't mind staying here for a while.

Just that! The term 'Brother Ming Yue'...she definitely couldn't bring herself to say it!

After exchanging glances with Han Mingyue, she silently followed behind him towards his room.

"You," Han Mingyue gestured for Zhen Yu to sit down at the desk, about to ask her what she wanted to do, but noticed her stretching her hand to pick up a copy of "selected novels" he had on the desk.

"Is there only one?"

Zhen Yu looked at the cover and asked, lifting her head.

"Currently, only this one. I'm planning to subscribe to it!" Han Mingyue pulled up a chair and sat down beside the desk.

Zhen Yu put the book back exactly as it was and looked up at the bookshelf.

Suddenly, turning her head to look directly into Han Mingyue's eyes, she asked seriously, "Do you lend out your books? Or should I come over to read?"

Han Mingyue blinked; his books were not for lending.

But she only gave him two options, either not lend them and she would come over to read? Should he welcome her?

After a moment's hesitation, he nodded, "You can come over."

"Thank you."

Zhen Yu expressed her thanks, not feeling like an outsider as she leaned in and pulled out the first volume of "Andersen's Complete Fairy Tales" from the shelf, and sat back down to read.

Han Mingyue found she really wasn't speaking anymore, and he couldn't help but gaze at her profile for a while.

In fact, she hadn't come to hang out at the Han Family deliberately for over a year.

Over the past year, if she saw him from a distance and there was nothing particular, she seemed almost eager to avoid him.

Sitting silently like this with him, reading together, was almost unprecedented.

Han Mingyue himself was a person who enjoyed tranquility, and this feeling now... well, was great.

Snapping back to reality, he picked up his "selected novels" which he was halfway through, and also quietly immersed himself in reading.

After reading two short stories, Zhen Yu looked up at the small clock on the shelf; it was four in the afternoon.

It was almost time for dinner preparations in each home; she should take her leave.

She stood up, put the book back in its place, and turned to Han Mingyue, who had also stood up after putting down his book, saying, "I should head home now."

"I'll walk you."

After greeting Mr. Han, Zhen Yu and Han Mingyue walked out of the clinic one after the other.

Standing at the clinic doors face to face, Zhen Yu was the first to speak, "What time works for you?"

Han Mingyue thought for a moment, "Reading?"

Zhen Yu nodded.

"After eight o'clock, then."

Zhen Yu nodded again, "Alright! I'll be going then."

From a distance, Han Jiayang saw his brother and Zhen Yu standing at their doorstep and hastened over with quick steps.

"Brother, what secretive talk were you having with your little daughter-in-law?"

Han Mingyue's face darkened, and he grabbed his younger brother, "Nonsense!"

Zhen Yu, looking unamused, nodded to Han Jiayang and then turned to leave.

Han Jiayang touched the back of his head somewhat confusedly, "Is Zhen Yu mad?"

"I don't know." Han Mingyue left these three words behind, turning to walk back into the clinic.

Han Jiayang paused for a second, then hurriedly followed in.
