Rebirth: The Heiress Plans Her Revenge-Chapter 77: Truth Revealed
Chapter 77: Chapter 77: Truth Revealed
"Mother, what were you thinking? You stole that family’s first child," Cheng Jixuan looked at his mother, nearly breaking down.
He and Cheng Nan both found it difficult to believe.
The Zhangs were one of the most powerful families in the country.
They may not be as powerful as the Lis and Xins, but one must exercise caution when dealing with them.
They were a family full of artisans. It was no surprise that Luiying was able to open a craft shop on her own.
Despite not having spent her entire life with her family, she retained the innate characteristics of her family.
They could not afford to offend the Zhang family or risk being exterminated.
"I had no idea the lady in the ward was Mrs Zhang; I only found out when Luiying turned fifteen," Mrs Cheng explained to him.
"If I had known, I would not have taken her; the nurse had been the one to instruct me," Mrs Cheng acknowledged the gravity of the situation, but she was going to shift all of the blame to the nurse who forced her to do so.
"She gave you an option, Mom, and you could have chosen not to, but your selfish actions caused you to act contrary," it was surprising that a nineteen-year-old could say such things.
Cheng Nan looked at her brother with admiration. She would never have been able to stand up as her brother did.
Perhaps it was time for a change. Her younger brother was doing it, so she should do it too.
"Mom, I believe it is time you come clean and tell the Zhangs; it may help reduce your sentence, and from what I am seeing, it was most likely a ploy in which you were used," Cheng Jixuan reasoned.
Mrs Cheng nodded, but she was not sure about the part where she could get a lighter sentence; she knew it was impossible. She had committed a serious crime, and the judge was unlikely to reduce her sentence, especially since the Zhangs would be involved.
The police arrived soon after, and Mrs Cheng was led away, much to the surprise of the maids.
Meanwhile, the housekeeper watched with a pale face. She was still the same housekeeper who helped Mrs Cheng steal the baby.
She was terrified as she watched Mrs Cheng being led away by the police. Perhaps she will be the next one.
She dashed into her room to pack her bags after giving it some thought. She planned to leave, or rather escape. She could not live the rest of her life in prison.
"Do you believe you are doing the correct thing?" While Jixuan stood and watched the police van drive away, Cheng Nan approached him with the question.
"I know I am doing the right thing; it may hurt, but everyone’s lives must return to normal; sister Luiying should reunite with her family; that is the right thing to do," Cheng Jixuan responded without looking at her.
She nodded with a heavy expression. Her little brother was no longer a child, but rather an adult.
"I will call sister Luiying, because you are in contact with the Zhang family’s youngest daughter. Call her and tell her to meet you at the police station with her entire family, saying it is urgent and has to do with them directly," he instructed, and she nodded.
"Will you be able persuade her?" Cheng Nan gently reminded her that she had been mistreated.
"You do not need to worry about that; just focus on the task I assigned," he told her, and she nodded, as if he did not want to tell her how he planned to persuade her.
Cheng Luiying sat on a chair in the workshop, admiring her new creation.
She expected it to take 2-3 days, but she finished it in under 12 hours.
Her phone abruptly rang, causing her to lose concentration.
She frowned when she recognized the caller.
She did not hesitate to answer the phone. The person said a few words to her, and she removed her apron, grabbed her bag, and dashed out of the shop, surprising the staff.
She called Xin Yi, who answered almost right away. She told him everything, and he told her to wait for him; he was going to come get her.
Two hours later, Cheng Luiying entered the Beijing police station calmly, with Xin Yi trailing behind her.
They were led into a room, and Cheng Luiying was surprised to see a large crowd.
"Mentor?" She tentatively called out when she noticed a lady.
The lady turned to face her and smiled broadly: "Luiying, what are you doing here? Ah, I am sorry, but your mother is in prison; do not worry, if you need anything, my door is open to you."
The lady did not intend to be rude; it was simply how she was, so Cheng Luiying took no offense.
Mrs Cheng, Cheng Nan, and Cheng Jixuan exchanged glances. It turns out they knew each other before. The woman was naturally Mrs Zhang, and the man standing beside her was her husband, the current head of the Zhang family.
"I see you two have met; this will make my confession much easier," Mrs Cheng, who was handcuffed, said, lowering her head slightly.
Everyone except her children exchanged puzzled looks as they pondered what she was saying.
"Twenty-five years ago, I committed a crime that hurt you and your husband, leaving your entire family devastated," Mrs Cheng began as she recounted what had happened.
This was the second time she had told the story today. She had vowed to keep the secret to herself, but now she was telling it all over again.
Cheng Luiying was standing motionless and unable to react by the time she finished.
She felt numb as she moved back, almost tripping over a chair behind her, but Xin Yi caught her quickly.
What did you just say? You must be joking, right?" Mrs Zhang inquired, chuckling, but one could hear the nervousness behind the chuckle.
Mrs Cheng admitted, "I am not lying, Zhang Jun; this is the truth."
Bang! Mrs Zhang had fallen to the floor, staring at her with a pale face.
"Jun," Mr Zhang responded slowly as he squatted to pick her up.
She stood up and turned to face her husband, who had a serious expression on his face.
Did you hear what she just said? Our daughter is alive; she did not die, and our baby is alive," Mrs Zhang said, holding her husband’s shirt and beaming with happiness.
