Rebirth: The unfavored Princess is the Tyrant King's favorite-Chapter 109: A believable lie
Nicholas watched the mischievous smile on Luciana’s face and how Adam was dragging his feet on his way out and could already tell what had happened.
’Did they both have a fight when he was in slumber?’ He was sure that was exactly what happened. He inwardly smirked and decided to take advantage of the situation.
"Kiss me first, and I’ll tell you," he said to Luciana, and she hurriedly obliged, giving him three quick kisses.
Luciana wanted Adam to hear Nicholas’ response, so she did as he asked.
"Mwah...Mwah...Mwah..." She kissed him on his two cheeks and lips and looked up at him expectantly.
"Well?"
"Of course, I’d save you first; you are my wife," Nicholas said in a matter-of-fact tone, and Luciana’s smile widened. She had a gloating look on her face.
’How she wished she could rub her victory in Adam’s face!’
Adam heard the prince’s reply and nearly stumbled. If someone saw his expression, he looked like a jealous wife who had caught her husband confessing his love to his mistress.
’The princess consort must have done it on purpose!’
Nicholas’ gaze moved between the two people, and he inwardly shook his head. Luciana had a smile on her face as if she had won the lottery, and Adam’s receding figure exuded a lonely and heartbroken scene. So he decided to add another sentence.
"Adam knows how to swim; the truth is, he’s a very good swimmer, so I don’t need to save him at all; he can save himself."
It was Adam’s turn to smile now.
’The prince only said what he said because he already knows how to swim. The prince still cared for him,’ he thought, feeling happy.
Luciana, on the other hand, glared at Adam’s disappearing back, her lips puckered and her angry face looking very seductive.
"I missed you terribly," Nicholas said and pressed his lips on her forehead.
Watching the scene of Luciana’s death in his dream, he felt so afraid. He felt as if it was his Luciana lying in his arms like that.
So when he woke up, he just wanted to hold her, hug her tightly, and feel her soft skin in his arms.
"I missed you too," Luciana said, her voice sincere, calm, and full of longing.
"I was so worried, I thought you were trapped in the dreamlike state," Luciana said and it was Nicholas’ turn to look at her in surprise.
"You knew?"
Luciana stared at his face, and she hesitated briefly before she nodded.
"Yes."
"How is that possible? Did you also have the same dream? Do you also remember our past life?" Nicholas asked a string of questions in one breath.
"Not every one of them, but I remember some," she said, and Nicholas noticed she said, "Not every one of them."
"Apart from the first lifetime, which other lives do you recall?" Nicholas asked tentatively, he had a feeling the reason Luciana resisted him previously must be because she saw him killing her in their past life.
He could only imagine how difficult it would be to fall in love again with your murderer. After all, in that life, she had said she never wanted them to be together again.
"The truth is, I don’t remember much of our first life; I only saw about three scenes in my dream: the first time I arrived as the crown prince’s consort, in another scene, I saw Lady Evelyn and Second Prince David kissing, and the last scene was you and I making love," she said, blushing and averting her gaze.
Nicholas released the breath he didn’t know he was holding; he didn’t know why, but he didn’t want Luciana to remember the times he had been bad to her.
"Is that all you remember?" He asked again.
"I think I experienced some parts of our previous life 1000 years ago. That was the day I became unconscious, and I don’t know how, but you also were able to witness everything," she said.
"So you know about the curse and the recurring fate?" Nicholas asked.
"Yes, a woman came to me in my dream; she told me our love is cursed and that I should leave you because we are each other’s doom," Luciana said, her voice solemn.
"You are not going to leave me, Luciana, never; I’m not going to allow it," Nicholas said, his tone sounding serious and hugging her tighter.
"Wait, don’t tell me you wanted to leave me? That day with my second brother, were you really planning to escape?" Nicholas asked, staring at her as if he was a predator who wanted to swallow her whole.
"No, no, I didn’t want to leave you," she said.
"Are you sure you are not lying to me?"
"It’s true, I had already made up my mind to stay with you in this lifetime before I found out about the curse. Even after I found out about the curse, it didn’t change my mind; I wanted to stay with you," she said.
"In this lifetime? Are you saying you remember another lifetime apart from the ones we’ve talked about?" Nicholas asked and Luciana froze.
’She didn’t want to tell him that she was having a second chance at life. She was afraid letting him know could change the course of fate; for instance, if she lets him know he’s not responsible for Evelyn’s pregnancy and he decides to kill Evelyn to vent his anger, what about her anger?’
’She must make Evelyn suffer for taking her child away from her and killing him. She would only be happy if she avenged Evelyn herself.’
"Um...a little," Luciana said, giving him half the truth.
"How much is a little?" Nicholas asked, his eyes probing.
"Erm... I had a dream, and it was similar to this current timeframe. So I thought maybe I had that dream so that I could change my fate and rectify my mistakes from the past," Luciana said.
"This current timeline? Like a rebirth?" Nicholas probed, raising his brows. He had hit the nail directly on the head.
Luciana nodded slowly and lowered her gaze.
"D...Did I hurt you? Did I do something bad to you?" Nicholas asked; he looked nervous.
"A...little," Luciana lied, noticing his anxiety.
"How much is a little?" He asked in the same nervous tone.
"You...You took away my freedom. My...My every move was monitored by your men, and you didn’t care about my opinion.... You were forceful, and it made me scared of you..."
"Maybe I was afraid you’d escape from me. Maybe you resisted me all the time, and I’m sure I loved you too much to let you go, or it could be that I did it to protect you," Nicholas said, interrupting her and trying to justify his actions even though he couldn’t remember.
He could tell from the emotions on her face that she wasn’t faking it. It was as if she was reliving the moment.
"But you preferred Lady Evelyn. I was your main wife only in name. Lady Evelyn was the one always by your side, and you two always looked happy together, but you still wouldn’t let me go," she choked, looking sad and angry; tears were rolling down her cheeks at the moment.
"I’m sorry, I’m sorry," Nicholas said and kissed her forehead, the heat from his lips lingering on her skin.
After a long while, he pulled back and stared at Luciana and smiled, trying to change the sad atmosphere.
"Wait, is that why when you saw Lady Evelyn and me the other time you looked so jealous?" He said, and Luciana glared at him through his tears.
"Is that important right now?" She asked back; her nose had become red from her constant rubbing and the tears.
"I don’t really like Evelyn like that; the truth is, the night I drank myself to a stupor and found her in my bed the next morning, I was surprised because I thought it was you," Nicholas said, and Luciana rolled her eyes.
"Can you tell a believable lie? Evelyn was pregnant before I arrived in Gloryland; how convenient for you to say you thought it was me?"
"Um, there’s something I must confess," Nicholas said, staring at her nervously. It was as if he was afraid what he was about to say would make her angry.
