Chapter 123: Contest

"What is happening there?"

"Your Majesty, the princess consort, and I have decided to take a look at your pet cats and heal them of whatever illness is affecting them," Princess Agatha said.

Hearing the Empress Dowager’s question, her heart had begun to drum in her chest. She knew just how strict her grandmother was.

If the empress Dowager finds out she had caused a scene in the banquet hall a few moments ago the woman might even ask her to do something more than give an apology.

Agatha decided to prevent a scolding from her grandmother at all costs and hurriedly spoke before the princess consort or even Nicholas would speak.

Nicholas’s eyes narrowed at Princess Agatha’s answer but Luciana gently shook her head at him and mouthed the words, "Let me take care of this" to him.

"Does the princess consort know medicine?" the empress Dowager asked in surprise.

As far as she was concerned, this princess consort, despite having a beautiful face and elegant deposition, had nothing to offer. She was just a vase, who seduced the eldest prince with her body and caused him to rebel against them.

"A little, your majesty. I learned medicine from a master in my country from a young age," Luciana said respectfully and bowed.

Princess Agatha was surprised at this. She didn’t know the princess consort knew about medicine. But it didn’t matter. Even if the princess consort knew medicine, she was going to fail, and she was going to make sure of it.

At that time, when the Empress Dowager is angry at the princess consort for killing her pet, she wants to see how this pretty face begs for forgiveness and incurs the wrath of the Empress Dowager.

"Who was your master? Is he part of the renowned ’The Alliance of Medical Masters’ in Windermere?" The empress Dowager asked.

’Those cats were her precious babies, she couldn’t allow the princess consort to hurt them.’

"My master wouldn’t like for me to disclose his identity due to personal reasons, but I can assure you that he’s a man with far greater knowledge in medicine than the physicians from the ’The Alliance of Medical Masters’’ in Windermere," Luciana said, and everyone gasped.

The Alliance of Medical Masters was an association of physicians that specializes in medicine creation and treatment of many complicated diseases. They were considered the number one medical practitioners in the Windermere continent.

The Emperor of Gloryland, who was the sovereign, had to give them face and not summon them at will since they were the cream of the crop. Getting a physician from the alliance was as difficult as passing a horse through the eye of a needle.

Everyone thought the princess consort was merely bragging; how could someone who had medical knowledge far superior to the number one medical practitioners’ alliance exist? Won’t such a godly figure be known worldwide?

Luciana saw all the curious and strange gazes directed at her and decided not to pay them any attention. They could believe what they wanted, she didn’t care. She remembered her master’s words after he told her he was going to leave Serenevale.

"I can already see the shocking faces of those bastards from the Alliance of Medical Masters when you begin to wow them with your medical skills. At that time, I’ll announce to the world the identity of my disciple."

But in her previous life, she never showed her medical skills and hid them.

Naturally, her master never appeared in front of her again until her death. It seems the only way to meet her master again in this life is to embrace her medical talent.

She must diligently practice medicine and wow the world with her skills and make her master proud.

"Have you treated someone with those skills you learned from your master before?" The empress Dowager asked another question. Before Luciana could answer, Noble Consort Margaret interjected.

"Your Majesty, if I may be allowed to speak," Noble Consort Margaret said and the empress Dowager’s attention moved to the woman.

"Go ahead," the empress Dowager said.

"Ever since Princess Agatha found out there was something wrong with your cats, she had been worried about your health and how lonely you must be feeling without the cats."

"After she learned about the princess consort’s medical abilities, she talked with her so that they both could take a look at your pet cats and make sure they are okay before the feast begins. They hoped it would make you very happy and your sour mood would be improved. You can then celebrate your birthday banquet in good spirits," the older woman added.

Luciana could only inwardly applaud the woman for her shamelessness and her thick face. To be able to tell such a white lie in front of many witnesses could only show how crafty she was.

"Good, then I’ll allow it," the empress Dowager agreed and called for her eunuch.

"Hurry and bring my pets over here. It would indeed make me less worried if my pets regained their strength before the feast began," the empress Dowager added.

In no time, the cats were brought into the banquet hall. The birthday banquet had been transformed into a veterinary ward.

The color of both cats looked the same. They all had pure white fur and just a little black spot at the tip of their tail. They both lay weakly in their crib and looked lean and thin as if they had been starved.

Their lush fur looked frail, like a cat raised in a poor household, barely eating. The empress Dowager had tears in her eyes.

"My babies have not eaten for the past three days and have been vomiting all the time," The empress Dowager lamented. She looked like a mother with sick children.

"Can the both of you do something to help?" She added.

Luciana walked towards the first cat and picked it up just as Princess Agatha picked up the second one.

"Pain, pain... it hurts," the cat meowed but Luciana’s eyes widened in disbelief.

She could hear the cat’s words.

"Your Majesty, the cat’s problem is not something difficult, with my skills, I’ll make sure it will be healthy and able to eat again in thirty minutes," Princess Agatha said after checking up on the cat.

And then she stared at Luciana as if asking her to also report what she found out about the cat’s illness.

"Your Highness, I agree with Princess Agatha. What is ailing the cat is not something so big but on my part. I’ll need about an hour at most to make sure the cat is fully healed and able to eat again," Luciana said.

Princess Agatha heard Luciana’s words and a smug smile spread on her face.

"Princess Consort, you must know that this is a contest and the time at which each one of us completes healing the cat must be counted. This means that if I heal the cat within thirty minutes and you heal the cat in your possession in an hour. I will naturally be the winner," she said.

"Are you sure you can cure the cats in thirty minutes?" Luciana asked the princess with genuine concern this time around.

"Of course I’m sure. What don’t tell me you are scared of losing to me and apologizing?" Princess Agatha asked with a mocking gaze.

Luciana’s eyes flashed at her words and she shook her head at the foolish girl. ’Who even asked her to care about this spoiled brat?’

"Of course not. I’m just worried you’d make a spectacle of yourself and pull the name of the royal family in the mud than you already have," Luciana said in a clear voice loud enough for everyone to hear.

Nicholas heard the confidence in her voice and he smiled at her with a proud look on his face. He didn’t know she was such a witty person with a sharp tongue.

All the women who saw the iceberg smiled and nearly fainted at the sight. He was so handsome...too handsome, and Princess Agatha also happened to see this smile that wasn’t meant for her, and she was filled with even more jealousy. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

’She must win at all costs!’ she vowed to herself.

"I will make you pay for looking down on me," Princess Agatha said and hurriedly turned to begin as soon as possible.

"A contest?" The empress Dowager asked in puzzlement.

Before anyone could answer, Noble Consort Margaret, who wanted to kick her daughter in the head for not knowing when to shut up, began to explain.

"Your majesty, it’s like this... Princess Consort and the first Princess felt it would be boring to cure the cats without activities involved. So she suggested that they treat it as a contest. This is to liven up the atmosphere and for the princesses to showcase their talents."

The empress Dowager was puzzled but thought it was indeed quite a good initiative so she added.

"Good, to make it more fun and exciting, anyone who does a good job would be greatly rewarded."

"Thanks for your benevolence," Both Luciana and Princess Agatha said bowing.

In no time, everything was put in place, and the bell rang.

"Let the contest begin!"
