Rebirth: The unfavored Princess is the Tyrant King's favorite-Chapter 124: Contest 2
"Let the contest begin!" the Eunuch, who was now acting as a referee, loudly declared.
Luciana gently laid the cat down, whispering to it and telling it to be strong and calm down.
Those who saw this scene of the princess consort whispering to the cat opened their mouths in shock.
’Was she treating the cat like a human?’
Luciana had already communicated with the cat and knew what caused its illness.
According to the cat in her possession, a few days ago, the empress dowager had left them in the care of a new maid, and the maid had fed them a meal without deboning the fish.
The cat explained to her that every time they were served fish to eat, the imperial kitchen made sure to take out all the bones so that they could eat it with ease, but that day was different.
The meal was served as if the person was in a hurry. The fish, together with its scales and bones, were placed in front of them to eat.
Initially, the cat didn’t want to eat, but since it was hungry and the aroma of the fish was difficult to ignore, it could only eat what the maid had served.
All their lives, the cats have been treated gently, like royalty, and because of that, they have no survival skills.
That was how they both ended up having a fish bone stuck in their throats. It was so painful since they couldn’t get rid of the bone.
Also, it seemed that the bone was stuck in the flesh of their throat, making it difficult for them to eat.
Anytime it tried to forcefully expel the bone, it caused the food in its stomach to come out as vomit. Currently, the cat was so famished and dehydrated that it had no more food in its stomach to bring out.
Amirion brought over the chest with medical supplies Luciana happily accepted the chest with thanks and began to treat the cat.
Three days ago, Luciana had asked Nicholas to get her medical tools and herb box, listing all the things she might need in the box.
What she didn’t expect was that the very next day, Nicholas would bring a large chest full of medicinal supplies and large quantities of some expensive and rare herbs.
That day, apart from the chest full of medicinal supplies, Nicholas spared no effort, and several chests full of silk, brocade, pearls, and lots of luxurious items she might never finish using in this lifetime were brought to Moonlight Palace.
The Moonlight Palace was her new residence in the main palace and had large halls and large bed chambers, and almost everything looked like a major upgrade from her courtyard in the eldest Prince’s manor.
The problem was after all the effort she had expended to redecorate the Moonlight Palace to her liking, Nicholas had made sure she rarely stayed in the place.
It’s been three days now but thanks to his insatiable needs, she was always at the eldest Prince’s estate. She hadn’t even slept on her new bed for even once.
’Enough of the reminiscing, Luciana; focus on the task at hand,’ Luciana inwardly scolded herself for losing concentration.
Before she would attend to the cat, she brought out a few herbs from her chest and handed them to Dora.
"Simmer these herbs for 15 minutes under low heat for me... As soon as you realize it’s about to boil, take it off the stove and bring it over here," she said to Dora, who nodded and hurriedly went away to perform her task, but before she could go further, Luciana called her back and added in a stern voice.
"Don’t leave the medicine during the preparation process for any reason. Make sure you watch everything from start to finish." Dora nodded about to go when Luciana turned towards where James was standing in the far back.
"James please go with her and keep her company," she said and went back to her task. Luciana didn’t see how Dora had glared at James at the mention of his name.
James looked like he didn’t want to spend time with Dora either, but he could only follow Dora since he couldn’t disobey the princess consort in the presence of the eldest prince.
Princess Agatha had already begun treating her cat and was currently feeding it medicine and everyone was beginning to wonder when the princess consort would begin.
"Maybe the princess consort knows she is going to lose anyway and is intentionally delaying the inevitable?"
"Yes, we all know Princess Agatha is famed for her gift of healing. Since the age of ten, she could tell the medicinal properties of many herbs just by looking at them."
"Yes, she can even tell you to eat a certain type of food to cure you of your illnesses. She is so talented in the act of healing that one time she just told someone to eat a lot of apples and their sickness disappeared just by following her advice."
The whispers of the people circulated through the halls, reaching both Luciana’s and Princess Agatha’s ears, but Luciana acted nonchalant.
Princess Agatha, on the other hand, felt as if she was floating on the clouds at their words. It was as if she had been dipped into honey.
"I have finished treating the cat, Your Majesty. We should allow the cat to rest for about 20 minutes before we feed it some food," Princess Agatha loudly announced, causing everyone to look at her with eyes full of admiration.
It’s been less than 15 minutes but she had already finished treating the cat. She was indeed a medical genius! Luciana ignored the blatant comparisons she knew would be going on in their heads and seriously began to attend to the cat this time around.
Luciana brought out some little clips to keep the cat’s mouth ajar and brought out a tweezer. She carefully disinfected the tweezer and gently lowered it into the cat’s opened mouth.
She was just about to poke its throat and pull out the bone when the empress Dowager’s sharp voice full of authority rang out.
"Wait!"
"Princess Consort, what is the meaning of what you are doing?! Why do you want to torture my pet?!"
The older woman had seen how Princess Agatha had fed her other cat some medicine and announced that she had finished treating the cat.
But this woman had not only forcefully pried her cat’s mouth open, keeping it ajar and making her precious baby look like it was in so much pain but she was shoving that sharp gleaming metal down the cat’s throat. Was she treating her pets like mere animals?
"Your Majesty, there’s a bone stuck in the cat’s throat, and unless I remove it. Any medicine I feed the cat would be in vain," Luciana explained and the empress dowager even found her excuse ridiculous.
"A bone? Every servant in my palace knows that my babies never eat food with bones in it. Even when they are to eat any meal with bones in it, all the bones are carefully picked out leaving them with only the tender parts. So why is the Princess Consort giving a wrong diagnosis and planning to torture my kitten," the empress dowager said.
Luciana stared at the woman, tongue-tied, not knowing what to say. She couldn’t say it was the cat who told her about the maid with malicious intentions.
Who would believe her? Besides, she didn’t want everyone to know she possessed other gifts apart from the one they knew...Just not yet.
"Your Majesty, can you trust me and let me cure your pet? I promise that I’ll hold myself accountable to you if anything goes wrong," Luciana said, her gaze speaking volumes and full of authority that the empress dowager instinctively felt like believing her.
"You said it yourself, I’ll hold you accountable if anything happens to my cat," the empress dowager said.
With the empress Dowager’s permission, Luciana gently lowered the tweezer into the cat’s throat and pulled out the first bone.
Everyone gasped in amazement when Luciana pulled out the bone with little blood drops at one end.
Even Princess Agatha’s confident expression crumbled at what she saw. Her gaze instinctively went towards her cat, wondering if there was anything she missed.
In the next moment, Luciana lowered her tweezer into the cat’s throat and pulled out two bones one after the other.
Dora soon arrived with the medicine bowl and Luciana began to feed medicine to the cat.
The hall was filled with heavy silence as everyone watched the princess consort.
It was said that a working man looked attractive, but Luciana, with her full concentration as she took care of the cat, was so mesmerizing that everyone watched her as if spellbound.
After Luciana finished feeding the cat with the medicine, she looked up and saw all eyes on her but she kept her composure.
"Your Majesty, the cat is in good shape now but I’ll advise it to be allowed to rest for an hour at least before we feed it some soft foods," Luciana said.
"Good," the empress dowager said, beaming in happiness but one could see the hint of suspicion in her gaze.
Naturally she could tell that someone had fed her cat a meal with bones.
"What about this? Let’s summon the entertainers to come and entertain us, and after that, we’ll check on the cats."
