Chapter 133: Caught in the act - 2

Nicholas saw the hesitation in her eyes, and his thoughts immediately went to the intruder who had barged into their room that morning.

’David was the one who had seen her almost naked on his bed this morning.’

The realization made him see red.

Nicholas: "I’m going to kill him!"

Luciana: "He gave a maid a parchment that had a message and a map to be delivered to me. It said I should meet him here, and he would help me escape."

They both spoke at the same time and stared at each other.

"Really? I nearly thought he was the intruder," Nicholas said, and Luciana gave him a nervous laugh.

"Haha, why would you think that?" She said, trying to keep the nervousness out of her voice.

Nicholas stared at her with his sharp gaze as if he were searching through her heart and soul and said after a while.

"I’ll believe you this time, Luciana. I hope you will not do things behind my back and hide things from me again."

Luciana frantically nodded her head as if her life depended on it. "It will never happen again," she said.

"Leave the second prince to me; I’ll speak with him myself," Nicholas said. He recalled he and David had not fought like he had promised the last time at the auction house.

It seems this was the perfect opportunity to give his younger brother some lessons to straighten him out.

"Nick, please, can you not have any meetings with him? I suggest we just ignore him and leave him alone. I promise I’ll avoid him any time I see him," Luciana said, and Nicholas gave her a wicked smile.

"Don’t worry, wildflower, be good. I’ll try and hold back when I have "the talk" with him. I think it’s been a while since my brother and I had some action..."

"Nick, can you do it for me? Don’t go and see him, okay?... Please," she said.

"I think you shouldn’t interfere with this from now on. If you are worried, rest assured... I’ll not kill him...Not yet at least." Luciana gasped at his words.

"Nick, don’t say such scary things," Luciana pleaded.

"Looking so worried for another man in your husband’s presence... Luciana, tell me, how should I punish you?" His voice was dangerously low as he lifted her chin and said those words.

Goosebumps rose on her skin at how deathly his gaze looked as he interlocked his eyes with hers. She closed her eyes and softly muttered,

"I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have."

"You shouldn’t have done what?" He asked, and she blinked.

"Everything," she said. She knew what she had done couldn’t be forgotten just like that, and she wasn’t in the mood to list all her crimes.

"Everything?" He repeated.

"Yes, everything; I’m sorry for everything I did today," she said, and Nicholas nodded.

"Can we return to the banquet hall now? I hope we haven’t missed the emperor lighting up the furnace," Luciana said; she wanted to get out of there before David arrived.

"Wait, let me adjust the cloak for you," Nicholas said and began to make her look presentable.

Since he was in a hurry and still in a bad mood, he didn’t pay attention, and his ring caught Luciana’s pendant. Before he realized it, he had forcefully tugged on it, and it fell harshly onto the floor, breaking into several pieces.

Luciana stared at her broken pendant in surprise. This was the same pendant she had lost the first day she arrived in Gloryland, but luckily, Second Prince David had found it and returned it to her.

’But why was her pendant broken just by hitting a wooden floor? Her pendant was made of topaz and was very difficult to break. Could it be that David had given her a fake pendant? But why would he give her a fake pendant?’

Nicholas was someone who paid close attention to everything regarding Luciana, and so naturally, he had seen her pendant several times.

He didn’t know where she got it from, but he could tell it was something important to Luciana.

He saw Luciana’s widened eyes full of shock and thought she was angry and blaming him for breaking her pendant. He immediately squatted and began to pick up the pieces before saying.

"I’ll keep it with me; I’ll find an expert to make a new one for you. I promise it will be the exact same design, and I’ll..."

"Luciana, sorry I kept you waiting," David, who had just arrived, said, and Luciana’s eyes widened in horror.

’Oh no, it was over,’ she thought, her eyes flickering between the man who was still squatting in front of her and picking the broken pieces of the pendant and the man outside the gazebo who was approaching them.

Luciana realized David couldn’t see Nicholas because of the short wooden fence around the gazebo.

"Erm...Second Prince, I understand you are doing everything for my sake, but please keep your distance away from me; I don’t want to leave the eldest prince, so please be mindful of your actions and try not to get close to me anymore. I’m your sister-in-law," Luciana hurriedly said, her voice flustered and full of anxiety.

David’s movements paused at her words, and he watched her in confusion.

Luciana knew she must speak first so that David wouldn’t say anything out of line and Nick wouldn’t have any reasons to doubt her any further.

"Did he find out? Is he threatening you?" David asked as he began to walk forward again, and Luciana frantically shook her head to dispel his words; her eyes were begging him to retreat.

"No, he’s not, so please leave. Don’t ever come close to me. Let’s not talk to each other again," Luciana said.

"That’s not what I saw this morning..."

"Talon!" Luciana cut him off, but it was no use.

"I saw the bruises all over your body, Luciana; he’s a beast for doing that to you. He’s going to kill you at this rate. Luciana, he knows you are much weaker compared to his strength, but look at how he’s treating you; he’s a monster... Please come with me; leave him..."

"How dare you?! Today I’m going to kill you!" Nicholas growled.

Before Luciana could blink, Nicholas’ fist had connected with David’s face as it cracked, and his nose and mouth immediately burst with blood.

Everything happened in a blur, so fast for Luciana to comprehend. She watched in horror as the heavy sounds of bones cracking filled the air.
