Rebirth: The unfavored Princess is the Tyrant King's favorite-Chapter 141: I want to be alone
Evelyn had specifically said these words today because she knew the effects it would have on the older woman. The empress dowager was also an unfavoured consort.
The empress dowager, who had no idea this was a carefully rehearsed speech targeted at reminding her of the scars of her past, began to sympathize with Evelyn.
"The ground is cold, it’s not good for the baby’s health. Rise," the empress dowager said.
Seeing Evelyn look so pitiful reminded her of her younger self. She had also been an unfavoured consort. She had lived her days in loneliness in these cold palace walls and could only watch her husband, the former emperor, shower his love and devote himself to other women.
Maybe that was why she subconsciously kept this little girl close; she reminded her of her younger self and how she could have done things differently.
Maybe if she had been a little vicious, her son would have been the current emperor and wouldn’t have been killed in a war, a sacrifice that was soon forgotten by the people.
Lady Evelyn inwardly smirked seeing how the empress dowager’s tone had softened.
"I’ll talk to the rites office to create a visiting calendar for the eldest prince so that he doesn’t neglect his duties," The empress dowager added and Evelyn hurriedly showed her gratitude by kowtowing three times.
"Thank you, thank you, Your Majesty, I’ll never forget this kindness you have shown this servant."
"Okay, that’s enough. You should pay attention to your health and that of the baby too," the older woman scolded before adding in an alienated voice,
"Okay, that’s it. You can return to your quarters; I want to be alone."
Evelyn nearly choked on her saliva at the older woman’s words. Previously, anytime she came around to visit the empress dowager, the woman would ask her to sit and chat over tea.
Even though Evelyn had always listened to those conversations half heartedly and gave few responses here and there, those visits made it clear to the other concubines how much the empress dowager valued her company.
’But she had arrived just a few minutes ago and the empress dowager was already driving her away?’ Evelyn thought.
What Evelyn didn’t know was that even though the empress dowager sympathized with her, the trust the woman used to have in her was broken.
The woman had wholeheartedly treated her as a granddaughter, especially since the empress dowager had also been a princess from Tahlia.
She saw Evelyn as a distant relative, but after seeing how Evelyn didn’t hold her in such high regard in her heart as she did, it was only natural for the empress dowager to also not hold her in such high regard.
Indeed, the empress dowager wouldn’t treat Evelyn as an enemy but her lies had pushed her away from the older woman.
"I’m sorry, I should have been mindful and shouldn’t have disrupted your resting time; I’ll take my leave, Your Majesty," Evelyn pitifully said, thinking the woman would refute her words and indulge her, but only a curt, "Alright," was the reply the empress dowager gave her as an answer.
Caught by surprise again Evelyn could only bow again and walk away, not without adding.
"I hope Her Majesty likes the gifts I brought to you today; I carefully selected everything myself."
"Don’t worry, the maids will take care of it," the older woman said.
Evelyn left the drawing room of the empress dowager in low spirits. She could only console herself with the fact that a visiting calendar would be created for the eldest prince.
’At least that would make him pay her a visit soon,’ Evelyn thought.

The eldest Prince’s estate
"Are you sure you are full," Nicholas asked Luciana who didn’t want to be fed by him anymore.
"I feel very satisfied thanks to you," she said, and Nicholas could have sworn there was a hidden meaning in her words, but seeing how naive she looked as she elegantly patted her lips with the napkin, he realized it was all in his head.
Her every word sounded like an invitation for him to do something wicked to her and her every action looked so erotic that watching her do something as simple as patting her lips turned him on.
He told himself to be patient with her and carefully nurse her back to health before he could finally leave Gloryland to search for answers.
He had scolded himself for not paying attention to her health and causing her to push herself to such lengths without complaining about how demanding he was in their sexual activities.
But seeing how naive she was in bed, something told him she really had no idea her body was tired because of their activities. She was just so naive about her own body that she didn’t even realize she was pregnant the last time too.
"Come let me help you undress; the maids must have finished preparing your bath by now," he said.
Luciana shyly nodded and responded with a low, "Okay."

After the maids came to help Luciana with her bath, Nicholas walked out of his chambers to find James. He had already told a male servant to call James to his study when the meals were being served.
Nicholas found James in the study just like he had instructed.
"Greetings Your Highness, you called for me," James said and bowed.
Nicholas walked to his chair behind the desk and sat down.
"Sit," he told James.
"How is the second prince’s condition now?" Nicholas asked, he really didn’t care about the bastard’s condition, but Luciana wanted to go and see him, so he must inquire in advance.
"Reporting to His Highness, the second Prince is currently out of danger and awake now but most of his bruises are yet to heal," James said.
"My wife wants to see him, can he receive visitors?" Nicholas asked, causing James, who had his head lowered, to lift his head in surprise at the prince’s words.
He and Adam had already put two and two together and had arrived at a conclusion: the eldest prince attacked the second prince because of the princess consort.
After all, this wasn’t the first time they had realized the second prince and the princess consort had some unexplained connection with each other.
But what was surprising was that their jealous prince was allowing his wife to see the second prince even after everything that had happened.
"Ye–Yes I think even though the second prince doesn’t want to cooperate with us for his treatment, he would agree to see a new face that doesn’t belong to Adam or me," James said, emitting the part that the second had been calling for the princess consort in his sleep.
The man had been bombarding them every single second he was awake with absurd questions like,
"What did my brother do to Luciana?"
"Is Luciana alright? I want to see her for myself."
Adam had once kicked him at the back of his head to make him unconscious because the man was shameless.
’Who in their right minds asked after their own brother’s wife like that?’
"Okay, go ahead and make preparations; we will be there any moment now," Nicholas instructed.
"Yes, Your Highness."
"About the trip out of the capital, Your Highness, the men want to know when the new date will be for embarking on the trip. Some want to visit their families," James said.
"In two weeks," Nicholas said. He wanted to make sure Luciana was very healthy and put her into safe hands before he left.
"Okay your highness, I’ll take my leave then," James said and bowed.
James had just opened the door to the study when he came face to face with a flustered-looking Dora.
"I...I..." Dora didn’t think she was going to meet James, the man who had been making her heart race anytime she saw those cold, onyx-black eyes of his.
Due to how flustered she was, and how her brain seemed to have been shut down at the sight of him, she watched the man tongue-tied as he stepped out of the prince’s study but she didn’t expect him to roughly grab her and drag her with him down to the end of the corridor with an angry look in his eyes.
"Wh...what are you doing?" Dora whimpered looking at him with widened eyes.
"How dare you eavesdrop on the prince?" James barked.
Dora glared defiantly back at him at his words and roughly tried to yank her hand back from his grasp.
"Let go of me!" She yelled. She felt hurt that he would think she was capable of doing something like that when the princess consort had sent her to call over the eldest prince because she couldn’t find him after her bath.
If he thought she was eavesdropping then it meant he also thought the princess consort was the one who put her to it. It hurt Dora that after how well the prince treated her princess, his men still had such bad opinions about her.
"You should be lucky I was the one who saw you and not someone else, do you think the prince would have let you go seeing what you had done?"
"I told you to let go of me, didn’t I?" Dora snapped.
