Chapter 68: Losing control

This time, he went straight for her lips and kissed her, seeking entrance.

She clamped her lips shut, refusing to open up to him; he gently bit her lips, and when her lips parted as she was about to protest, he took the chance to slide his tongue into her mouth and kissed her so hungrily in such an intoxicating way, causing her to feel dizzy.

Luciana’s heart hammered in her chest, realizing how his body’s temperature rose with scorching heat emanating from him. It was as if he was going to burn her up.

’He was burning up; it seemed he was losing control!’

The problem was that she couldn’t even push him off her since he had pinned her hands down with his strong grip. So in an attempt to make him stop, she bit him hard on his lips and stiffened when he opened his eyes and locked them onto hers.

He raised himself off her and sat on the edge of the bed looking hurt.

"You didn’t need to do that. Even though you’re my wife, I won’t force you if you’re not up for it," he said flatly, a pained smile adorning the corner of his lips.

"I’m sorry, can you give me some time? Everything is happening so fast that for a moment there, I felt scared," she said, trying to find an excuse for her unexplainable actions.

Because she could feel it within her that the original soul was quite disappointed she was getting in the way of her finally being together with the man she loved.

"You don’t have to say sorry for such little things. You can refuse me anytime you want; I would respect your wishes," he said gently.

Seeing him look so sincere and guilty like that made her rejection seem even more difficult. But she forced herself to give him a little smile. This version of Nicholas was quite deadly; it would be best to keep her distance from him before she ended up doing something she would regret.

Eldest Prince’s manor in Gloryland,

Nicholas, who had kicked Lord Algrith away from Luciana’s bed, didn’t know he was going to experience something so strange he couldn’t fathom it.

When Lord Algrith had made contact with Luciana’s soul and told her to go and see King Nicholas, he cast a magic spell around the sleeping princess in order to make contact with her soul and speak to her in her dreams. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

What they both didn’t realize was that because Nicholas had abruptly lifted the cat away from Luciana and had taken its position, he had entered the circle of the magic spell.

When Luciana fainted and was carried into the eldest Prince’s chambers, Dora, who had been holding the soul-searching lamp, had placed it beside the bed.

And because the soul-searching lamp had the unique ability to search for a person’s soul, especially the particular one the heart yearned for, it had already seen through Nicholas’ heart that was yearning for Luciana to wake up and come to him.

Combined with the spell Lord Algrith had previously cast, Nicholas was in a dreamlike state that caused him to connect with Luciana’s soul.

It was just that he saw everything as if it was a dream, and no matter how he called out, no one heard him. He could see into Luciana’s thoughts as if they were his own and had followed her until he saw another him looking like a monster.

He had watched all the interactions between Luciana and this past self, and when he saw how his past self was trying to get intimate with Luciana, he felt immensely jealous. He had no idea he could be jealous of his own self like that.

The fact that he could hear Luciana’s internal monologue and her conflicting emotions didn’t help. He still felt like peeling that man off Luciana, but he could only watch on, powerless, and couldn’t do anything.

He could only calm down when he saw that they had stopped doing what he thought was going to happen.

"I’m feeling sleepy. Can we sleep?" Luciana asked King Nicholas.

"Okay, wife, let’s go to sleep," he said.

Luciana created space for him on the bed, and he lay beside her. They were both looking into each other’s eyes, and Luciana decided to say something to break the awkward atmosphere.

"About the ’golden box of mysteries,’ why did you need it?" She asked. He looked briefly surprised before he answered.

"There was a legend that it had answers to all questions, and I needed answers about where I came from and why I was born this way."

"Did you find it, I mean the box...Did it give you the answers you were searching for?" Luciana asked.

"I have yet to test it out; I wanted to be sure before I mistakenly unleash more evil into the world," he said.

"Your brothers, where are they? Did they also treat you badly like your father did?" Luciana asked; she had realized she didn’t see any encounters between this body and David in the body’s memories.

King Nicholas froze at her question, and it seemed as if it was a difficult thing to say.

"You can tell me later if you think it is too difficult to talk about," she said.

"No, I don’t want to hide anything from you again," he began.

"The truth is I have never been intimate with Evelyn; I just thought that if I gave you a reason enough, you would stop hoping for us to be together and stay away from me. I didn’t want to hurt you, and I admit I was wrong; I shouldn’t have done that."

"I hope you don’t see me as a monster for what I’m about to say, but I know you would find out sooner or later; I killed my brothers and made my father abdicate the throne to me. I had to do it, Luciana; it was either I killed them, or they would have killed me," he concluded and looked at her hesitantly and added.

"Are you afraid of me?"

"No, I think I understand you. You had to do what you had to do," she said.

A relieved smile fell on his lips, and he stared at her.

"Thank you for coming into my life, Luciana," he said, and for a moment there, Luciana felt as if he was talking to her—the Luciana from Gloryland.
