Chapter 146: Time To The End

Yuka controlled the use of her psychic power to avoid entering a frenzied state. She transformed her mechanical arm into a chained hammer. Although the chain wasn’t as long as the one the butler transformed into, it was enough for her to fend off the insectoids in front of her, charging full speed towards the Queen.

Faint light filtered through the cracks in the soil, but the underground was still very dark. Yuka gazed at the flesh mountain before her, vaguely recalling how, in her past life in the Martial World, she faced an overwhelmingly powerful body with a determination to die with her.

The closer she got to the Queen, the more newly hatched insect eggs appeared under her feet.

Yuka drove her mecha over them. The Queen, shocked and furious at seeing its offspring killed, commanded all the surviving insectoids to stop Yuka from reaching her!

Yuka swung the meteor hammer transformed from her right mechanical arm. The spinning spikes of the hammer in the air formed an impregnable defensive wall around her. Any insectoid that tried to approach was mercilessly knocked away.

More and more insectoids began to swarm Yuka. She felt her strength draining rapidly, her vision blurring. The aftereffects of using too much psychic power were kicking in, and the dull pain in her brain made it hard to focus.

Unconsciously, her attacks slowed down. The Queen continuously laid eggs, and countless insectoids, still larvae but in huge numbers, emerged and rushed towards Yuka.

’This is bad,’ Yuka thought.

Her psychic power could no longer sustain her control over the mecha, now just a heap of scrap metal.

The mecha’s mechanical legs began to crumble. As the mecha tilted, the parasites that had been clinging to her leg seized the opportunity to burrow into her mecha. Their spikes extended from the suckers in their abdomen, ready to feed on the human pilot inside.

Whoosh!

A sharp blade flashed, and one parasite’s brain was pierced by the tip of Kenji’s long sword, killing it instantly. It stopped struggling and slid off Yuka’s mechanical leg.

Kenji continued to swing his sword, working with Yuka to eliminate all the insectoids trying to join the fray. He then shared some of his psychic power to reassemble Yuka’s mecha, pulling her up from the ground.

Standing back to back, they continued to slaughter the incoming insectoids. Meanwhile, Kenji informed Yuka, "I just received new intel. Humphrey says the Queen’s body now produces a green liquid, the same kind that made me sick before. It can dissolve Oniyon."

’Dissolve Oniyon? If the Queen can now dissolve Oniyon, how are we supposed to attack?’ Yuka wondered.

Their mechas were mostly made of Oniyon, as were their weapons.

’After coming this far, are we really going to fail to defeat the Queen?’ Yuka frowned, skeptical. She took a small piece of Oniyon from her mecha and threw it towards the Queen. She watched it get corroded into white smoke by the green liquid oozing from the Queen’s body as she neared.

Yuka clenched her fists.

Kenji, fending off a soldier insectoid, said to Yuka behind him, "I’ll count to three and then open my mecha’s protective barrier. Jump over when I do."

Although Yuka didn’t know what Kenji was planning, she didn’t hesitate. As Kenji counted down, she quickly retracted her arm that had transformed into a chained hammer, turned around, opened her pilot barrier, and leaped into Kenji’s mecha, which had its barrier open.

The moment Yuka entered, Kenji closed the mecha’s driving barrier, blocking the incoming flying insects and slicing off their wings with a swift cut.

Without Kenji’s psychic power support, Yuka’s original mecha immediately crumbled into Oniyon pieces. While controlling his mecha to combat the surrounding insectoids, Kenji told Yuka, "Take out my exoskeleton."

Yuka paused, "What?"

"Exoskeleton," Kenji repeated, "Mine is modified by Nori. I don’t know if it’ll dissolve in the Queen’s green liquid like Oniyon, but we have to try. I can’t let you face the Queen unarmed. Go ahead, I’ll be fine."

Yuka knew how vital the exoskeleton was to Kenji. His condition was already unstable, nearly two hours after taking the mixed potion. Without the exoskeleton, he might physically collapse. freeweɓnovel.cøm

But they had no other choice.

Kenji firmly embraced Yuka, switching places with her so that she was in the pilot’s seat. He knelt in front of her, slightly bowed his head, took her hand, and guided her fingers to the back of his neck.

"Pull it out," he said with determination.

The black exoskeleton was cold to the touch. Yuka’s fingertips trembled slightly as she pressed it firmly.

Kenji gasped at Yuka’s action and quickly covered his mouth. The exoskeleton was embedded in his bones. Even though Yuka followed Kenji’s instructions to press the switch at the top of the exoskeleton, causing the hooked spikes between the bones to retract and minimizing blood loss and pain, Kenji still trembled slightly.

His eyelashes, wet with either tears or sweat, couldn’t hide his muffled groans filled with a heavy nasal sound.

Feeling somewhat embarrassed, Kenji buried his face in Yuka’s lap, not wanting her to see him lose his composure. Yuka gently lifted his chin with her other hand and leaned down to kiss him softly.

The kiss was meant to comfort. Kenji felt as if his heartbeat stopped, his mind clouded with sweetness, unable to think of anything but the soft, warm lips of Yuka. His entire face and body seemed to ignite, the pain drifting away.

The insectoids were still approaching. Yuka didn’t dare to prolong the kiss, stopping just in time while simultaneously fighting off the insect swarm and continuing to extract the exoskeleton from Kenji’s back.

After a minute that was both short and excruciating, Kenji’s exoskeleton was finally completely removed. Despite Yuka’s careful and meticulous actions, there was still a small amount of blood seeping from Kenji’s back.

The residual pain spread, and Kenji snapped back from his clouded state. He blushed, regained some of his thought process, nodded to Yuka to indicate he could continue piloting the mecha, and returned to the pilot’s seat.

Regaining control of the mecha, Kenji resumed attacking the newly hatched insectoids while using his psychic power to disrupt the Queen’s command over them.

"I’ll hold off the insectoid swarm," Kenji said, trying to control his heartbeat as he turned to look at Yuka with a tender and reluctant gaze. "Go ahead, I’ve got your back."

Yuka curled her lips in a playful smile, deliberately licking the corner of her mouth, watching as Kenji’s face turned red again. She controlled the exoskeleton with her psychic power, molding it in her hands into the shape of a chained hammer.

The moment the hammer was formed, Kenji opened the mecha’s protective barrier. Yuka leaped down, landing amidst the swarm of insects. Without the mecha, she was like in her past life, holding a chained hammer, confronting the invincible Queen with her flesh and blood.

But this time, she was not alone.

She heard the voices of the Stellar Corps members. They were on the surface, vigorously digging through the debris.

Kenji was right behind her, ready to clear any obstacles in her path.

Now, it was time to settle all this.
