Rebirth: The Universe's Hidden Heiress-Chapter 147: The Queen’s Fall
Chapter 147: The Queen’s Fall
Yuka lunged forward, her hammer swinging out, knocking away the insectoids blocking her path, and piercing deeply into the Queen’s body.
The Queen howled in pain, her thoughts dulled by Kenji’s psychic influence. Angrily, she shook her body, trying to dislodge the bothersome human clinging to her.
Yuka reached into the Queen’s oviposition cavity, climbing up through the hole, getting ever closer to the Queen’s brain.
The Queen, now in panic, sped up her egg-laying process. But due to insufficient energy, only one in a thousand of the eggs hatched successfully. And each of those successful hatchlings, falling to the ground, were immediately killed by another human – Kenji.
Yuka had climbed to the Queen’s brain. She transformed the hammer back into a long sword, the blade pointed downwards, and without hesitation, she plunged it into the Queen’s brain.
Gripping the sword, Yuka forcefully sliced through the Queen’s thick skin. She took out a glass bottle given to her by Nori, scooping up an entire bottle of the Queen’s green brain matter, preparing to leave the soon-to-collapse body of the Queen.
The Queen let out another piercing scream. Its body started trembling, shaking, shifting, and finally toppling over—
Kenji, having killed the last insectoid, watched Yuka retreat down the Queen’s cavity. He smiled tiredly yet relievedly.
It was over.
They were safe.
"This is truly..." Suddenly, Kenji’s smile froze.
He saw Yuka suddenly clutch her head, a pained expression on her face, then her body convulsed, and she fell straight down from the height.
While she was falling, Yuka knew that transforming her weapon just now had drained her last bit of psychic power, plunging her into a psychic frenzy abyss.
The next second, her brain felt like it was being stuffed with an exploding cannon, filled with pain, distortion, and chaos. She couldn’t grasp anything, couldn’t see anything...
In the very last moment before her consciousness shattered, she thought she heard someone calling her—
"Yuka!"
...
Days later...
"The body check is complete. The overall condition is weak, pupils are dilated..."
"Inject her with a strength booster."
"The strength booster is administered, but there’s no significant change in the patient’s vitals..."
"Keep injecting!"
Yuka felt her head getting heavy, then suddenly light. She could hear the voices of a robot and another man in front of her. They seemed very anxious.
Yuka felt her consciousness drifting higher and higher. It seemed like she had forgotten something important, but she quickly brushed aside this unease when she saw her master, Master Long.
He was the eldest teacher at the Martial Arts school. In the school, everyone, except the secluded Great Master, greeted him respectfully. Master Long always responded with a smile.
But today was different. Master Long didn’t acknowledge anyone who greeted him on his way. He seemed angry, rushing towards the school president’s grand hall.
Yuka followed, trying to catch up to ask what he was doing.
As usual, she jumped up to grab Master Long’s robe, yet she caught nothing but air.
Yuka stood still, staring at her palm, then skeptically touched the ground, only to find her hand passing through it. It was as if she didn’t exist, or had turned into a spirit.
’That’s right, I seem... to be dead. So am I a ghost now?’
Realizing this, Yuka calmed down. Recalling the tales and legends she had heard, she floated up like a ghost and, with incredible speed, caught up with Master Long. She followed him into the Martial Arts School’s council hall.
"I want to expel Sohua from the school!" she heard her master roar at the school’s president.
Sohua was Yuka’s classmate and the one responsible for Yuka being killed by the Queen in her last life.
Yuka had never seen Mr. Long so angry. His body radiated immense pressure. The president, unable to withstand it, sweating profusely, asked, "Why?"
"She betrayed her classmate!" Yuka saw Master Long’s hands clenched into fists, furious to the extreme. "Sohua pushed Yuka... she sent Yuka into the insectoid pit alone to face the insectoid Queen! I saved the last bit of Yuka’s soul in time, or she would be completely dead by now!"
Master Long had just returned from a long journey when he heard about Yuka’s death. He summoned the most honest student to ask about what had happened, but even they tried to lie to him, which he quickly saw through.
After uncovering the truth, he went to find Sohua, who had hidden in the Great Master’s residence, behind a barrier he couldn’t break.
Left with no choice, he approached the president to demand action.
The president hesitated, saying, "But everyone in the Martial World now knows it was our school that defeated the Queen. Representatives from all schools are on their way to congratulate us. Expelling Sohua at this time... wouldn’t that be inappropriate?"
Boom!
The president trembled and hid under the desk, staring at the half-destroyed hall, and exclaimed in disbelief, "Long, have you lost your mind?!"
"She’s just a mortal. Even if she didn’t die there, she will inevitably die in a few decades. Besides, it wasn’t her alone who killed the Queen. Didn’t the school contribute as well? Her achievements are the school’s achievements," the president argued loudly, trying to reason with Long. "Sohua is the Great Master’s kin. You need to weigh what matters more, Long!"
"I’m not the one who’s crazy, it’s you!" Long, in a fury, split the president’s hiding table in two, leaving him no place to hide. "Weren’t you mortals before practicing Martial Arts and cultivation? When Yuka was fighting the insectoid alone, did you really help?!"
Yuka watched as Master Long approached the president, looking down at him with a cold voice, "In that case, from this moment, I will have nothing to do with this school. I will take Yuka’s spirit and leave."
"You want to betray the school?" the president asked in disbelief, his eyes wide. "Long, have you forgotten how the school brought you up? Why are you being so coldblooded?"
"Enough!" Long roared again. "The thing I regret most in my life is telling Yuka to always think of the school’s interests. If I hadn’t said that, she wouldn’t have endured bullying silently, trying to help them, only to be betrayed and pushed into the insectoid swarm to die!"
Yuka watched as Master Long shed tears of regret. She wanted to comfort him, but she knew these events happened after her death and she couldn’t change what had happened. She could only watch silently.
"What an eye-opener your school is." A tall, thin man with a sword walked in through the collapsed hall entrance. He smiled at the president and said, "The young girl who was betrayed and killed by her peers in your school was the first friend my student made in all these years."
The young man standing beside the Sword Master, also carrying a sword, stood straight and fixed the president with a sharp gaze.
The president felt a chill run down his spine, as if he might be pierced by the young man’s sword at any moment.
This young man was known as the current prodigy of swordsmanship in the Martial World. His master, the tall and thin man, was the Sword Master himself.
Yuka recognized the young man as the top talent of the Martial World, whom she had once knocked over with a punch during a fight. She was somewhat puzzled about when she had become friends with him.
"How do you plan to resolve this matter of losing my student’s friend?" the Sword Master asked with a smile still playing on his lips.
Seeing the president sweating profusely and unable to speak, the Sword Master turned to pat his young disciple’s shoulder, "What do you think should be done?"
"Sever ties," the young man said coldly.
The Sword Master was momentarily taken aback, then burst into hearty laughter. "Well then, our Sword School will henceforth sever all ties with your school."
