Chapter 149: All Settled

Right now, Kenji was lying in the healing pod next door. He could feel a strange energy flowing inside his body, as if it might burst through his skin at any moment.

In the long struggle, he finally gained control, taming this wild energy and blending it into his body. Then, he slowly moved his fingers and finally opened his eyes.

"You’re awake," someone said.

Kenji blinked.

A group of people surrounded him, all looking down at him. Closest to him were Yuka, then Nori, Hideki, and the former General Fleet Admiral, with a black orb among them.

Kenji felt somehow embarrassed. He closed his eyes again.

"Open your eyes, let me see," Nori said to him. "Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?"

Kenji then reopened his eyes. His voice was a bit hoarse from not speaking for so long, "I feel fine."

"You think you’re fine and that’s it?" Nori started his usual banter, "You need to stay for another hour for observation. If you feel uncomfortable, call the smart robot to check you."

After speaking, Nori walked out with his records. Hideki glanced at him and followed him out.

The former General Fleet Admiral stood beside the healing pod, struggled for a bit, and finally managed to say, "Rest well," before leaving too. freēwēbηovel.c૦m

Now, only Yuka and Kenji were left in the room.

Yuka stuffed the butler, into her pocket, pulled up a chair next to Kenji, and propped her face with her hands, looking at him in the healing pod.

Noticing Yuka’s gaze drifting downwards, Kenji realized he was only wearing shorts. Her gaze felt like tiny flames igniting his skin, turning it pink.

Although Kenji wanted to get up and put on some clothes, he had just woken up and hadn’t regained his full strength, so he lay there, letting Yuka admire his body.

Yuka finally shifted her gaze from Kenji’s body and looked into his eyes. They silently looked at each other until Nori came back in to measure Kenji’s body data and confirm he had no after-effects. Only then did they break their gaze.

When everything was over and the dust had settled, they had no words to say, just wanting to quietly enjoy this hard-earned moment of peace.

Nori, completely unaware of spoiling the romantic air, looked at the data displayed on the smart robot, then said to Kenji, "You can get up now. Come with me to check your current physical strength level, and take some medicine back with you. It will help stabilize your condition."

He glanced at Yuka and warned again, "No making out in my lab, you two."

Yuka shrugged and left the room with the butler. After Kenji changed his clothes, they followed Nori into the room where physical strength levels were measured.

Kenji stepped onto the testing machine.

The machine reported that Kenji’s physical strength level was A+.

"Looks like you’re stable," Nori said, handing Kenji a bottle of pills. "Three times a day, one pill each time. Alright, you two can go now. Don’t hang around here and be in the way."

Yuka and Kenji exchanged a glance and said to Nori, "Thank you."

Nori gave them a look, then waved them off, "Don’t be sentimental with me, I’m not used to that. There are people waiting for you outside, better hurry up."

Yuka and Kenji thanked him again and then left the underground lab. After they left, the former General Fleet Admiral and Hideki emerged from another room.

Nori turned to them, "I’ll return to the Alliance Science Academy. I’ve seen the agreement you signed with Yuka. It’s bold, but I think it’s worth a try."

They all had a feeling that a new era for the Alliance was about to begin.

Meanwhile, Yuka and Kenji had left Nori’s underground lab. It had only been six hours since they killed the Queen. The logistics team was moving the wounded and cleaning up the battlefield.

Ayoi and Alex, helping with the cleanup, saw Yuka and immediately dropped what they were doing, running towards her and shouting, "Yuka!"

Yuka hugged them tightly, feeling their tears soaking her shoulders and couldn’t help but smile helplessly, "I’m fine, really."

Ayoi wiped her tears and muttered, "You have no idea how scary it was when we found you and Mr. Kuba underground. I almost thought you were dead..."

Alex, his hand wrapped in bandages, looked at Yuka with concern. "Are you really completely fine now?"

"I’m fine," Yuka assured.

She looked around at the people busy moving supplies nearby. Lory and Philip were arguing as they worked, Donny, Morris, and Vivian were coordinating their efforts, the Ichiro brothers waved at her, and Shawn and Toru were deep in conversation.

Everyone seemed alright.

The others who remained on the battlefield also noticed Yuka and Kenji, slowly gathering around them. Seeing both Yuka and Kenji safe and sound, albeit a bit weak, they finally let out a sigh of relief.

If it weren’t for Yuka and Kenji, the Queen would still be alive now. If not for them, the war would have been much longer and the casualties far greater.

Thanks to them, the Queen had not invaded the Alliance, and they were all still alive to stand here today.

The crowd around Yuka and Kenji was filled with excitement and gratitude. Someone started clapping, and soon, cheers erupted. Everyone embraced in a joyful, chaotic huddle, loudly shouting Yuka and Kenji’s names, celebrating their survival, their victory in the war, and the success in killing the insectoid Queen!

Yuka and Kenji exchanged a long, heartfelt hug amidst the noise, feeling each other’s strong heartbeats and thinking how fortunate they were to be alive.

As the cheering gradually subsided, the crowd’s emotions remained high but became quieter. Toru stepped beside Yuka and said, "Commander, we... we lost 132 comrades."

Behind Yuka, Kenji’s subordinate also spoke, his voice heavy with sorrow, "Sir, we have nearly a thousand soldiers injured, and over four hundred have died."

A moment of silence fell over the group.

The initial joy of victory was fading, giving way to the grief of losing their companions. Yuka patted Toru’s shoulder and said firmly, "We won’t forget them. They will get everything they deserve."

Facing the tearful crowd, Kenji added, "When we return, I will have a monument erected in Central Square with their names engraved on it."

This battle deserved to be remembered by all. History would record it, and those who sacrificed their lives in this war would not be forgotten.

"Now, let’s head back."
