Rebirth: The Universe's Hidden Heiress-Chapter 99: Swordsmen (1)
Chapter 99: Swordsmen (1)
Outside the arena, Roukujou stared intently at the screen, commenting to the audience, "One of Blue Team’s mecha is heading towards Pinky’s location, but Pinky’s teammates aren’t pursuing the opponent. Seems like Pinky is confident, feeling she can handle two at once."
"By the way, folks," Roukujou continued, "people from Confucius Academy excel in ancient sword techniques. Due to their weapon’s uniqueness, they prefer fighting solo, but Swordsmen is an exception."
[A friend from Confucius Academy once told me they’re quick to draw swords in anger. I visited their academy and left overnight, frightened by their temper.]
[Really? That’s funny.]
[Is Pinky in danger then?]
Yuka launched her third attack on the opposing black mecha. She released the chains wrapped around her mecha’s wrists, picked up the hammer from the ground, and started spinning it rapidly, creating a blur of motion. Then, she hurled it towards the black mecha.
Ichiro had watched many of "Lady’s" matches, but her weapon was mostly a long sword. He and his brothers had only studied their sword techniques.
Now, surprised by the sudden hammer attack, Ichiro ducked, avoiding the hammer, and swung his sword upwards with force.
He thought, if he could cut the chain, "Lady’s" weapon would be useless.
As their weapons clashed, he felt the force lighten on his blade.
Realizing something was wrong, he tried to retract his sword, only to find the chain wrapped around it. Ichiro pulled back desperately, not wanting to lose his weapon to "Lady."
But "Lady" was stronger. As the sword handle almost slipped from Ichiro grip, he felt sweat on his forehead.
Just as he was about to lose his grip, he heard his brother’s voice.
"Ichiro, I’m here!"
A swoosh sounded from behind, Yuka quickly retracted her chain and rolled away, avoiding the incoming blade.
Her tug on Ichiro’s hand ceased.
Caught off guard, Ichiro stumbled backwards but steadied himself, turning to see Shiro rushing in.
Yuka swiftly retracted her meteor hammer and picked up the long sword she had dropped earlier. Holding it in her left hand, she pointed its tip towards the newly arrived black mecha.
It was now two against one.
Outside the arena, Roukujou, nervously fidgeting with his cup, spoke rapidly, "Guys, Pinky just dodged the second black mecha’s attack, like she had a radar on her back. But this is just basic for our Pinky. Now, it’s two against one, and Blue Team’s Number Three is halfway down the mountain, ready to assist at any moment."
[We’ve seen Pinky handle two-on-one before, no need to panic, Saltyfish.]
[But this is the top team in the group competition, and their swordsmanship is formidable.]
[The first black mecha fought evenly with Pinky, now with another mecha, can Pinky hold on?]
[What’s Pinky’s teammate doing? Why aren’t they helping?]
On the field, Shiro, unable to contain his eagerness, twirled his sword and charged at the pink mecha. Yuka, even with her left hand, was swift and unhesitant.
After a few exchanges, she struck the new black mecha’s mechanical arm.
Shiro shuddered, quickly retracted his sword, and stepped back.
While they exchanged blows, Ichiro had already approached from the side.
Leaping high, he aimed to pierce "Lady’s" cockpit with his sword.
Without looking, Yuka threw her hammer, striking right between Ichiro’s mecha’s shoulder and cockpit, sending him flying.
As Shiro advanced again during "Lady’s" brief distraction, aiming straight for the cockpit, Yuka didn’t retract her hammer. Instead, she let it continue on its trajectory, reaching the new black mecha.
Shiro, taken aback by the sudden appearance of the hammer, stepped back half a step. The hammer whizzed past his cockpit and continued flying.
During his moment of hesitation, "Lady" had already closed in on Shiro, her long sword raised high and then fiercely chopping down, splitting his already damaged shoulder and mechanical arm.
As the black mecha in front of her fell backward, Yuka gracefully landed. She flipped the sword tip, retracted her right hand, and swiftly pulled back the hammer.
Ichiro, who had reached the hammer’s trajectory, was only able to lift his sword in preparation to cut the chain, but "Lady" quickly retracted it, leaving him slashing at air.
Ichiro stood there, speechless...
’These two swordsmen seem a bit weak,’ Yuka thought to herself.
Indeed, compared to the legendary swordsman she encountered in her previous life, Ichiro and Shiro fell short. That swordsman not only had superb sword skills but could also control the sword with psychic powers, attacking from a distance.
Yuka had suffered quite a bit from that. Thus, when fighting sword wielders, she instinctively kept her distance, then suddenly closed in for a lethal strike when they least expected it.
Nonetheless, among the five major academies, Ichiro and his brothers were still among the best. Their proficient swordsmanship and agile movements would have easily overpowered others.
Unfortunately, however, they were now facing Yuka, who had once defeated a genius swordman.
Outside, Roukujou relaxed, stroking his chin, and said to the audience, "Folks, I feel like Pinky’s weapon is kind of a counter to the Swordsmen team’s long swords, right?"
[I think so too. Pinky’s weapon is like a combination of a whip and a hammer, good for both offense and defense, but tricky to use. One wrong move, and you could hit yourself.]
[I watched Swordsmen’s matches and thought their sword skills were incredible, almost too fast to see. But compared to Pinky, they seem so weak.]
[Pinky’s going to win this two-on-one, right?]
On the field, the fire in the streets grew fiercer, spreading to the brothel where Ayoi was and the government office where Alex was. After a final glance at Oniyon hanging in the well’s bucket, Ayoi and Alex simultaneously rushed out of the burning buildings, heading to support Yuka at Blue Team’s defense point.
"Pinky’s teammates are on the move," said Roukujou. "Though I think Pinky doesn’t need their help, them going to the halfway point to snatch the enemy’s Oniyon is a good strategy."
After saying this, Roukujou refocused on the live screen of Pinky and the two black mechas, not wanting to miss a second of their thrilling battle.
Yuka indeed didn’t need Ayoi and Alex’s support; Ichiro and Shiro were struggling.
The difficult-to-use hammer obeyed "Lady’s" commands perfectly, keeping them at bay with long-range sweeps and quickly turning into a close-combat weapon when swung to smash their cockpits.
Even wielding the sword with her left hand, "Lady’s" skill remained undiminished, matching their long swords blow for blow with equal strength.
In stark contrast was Shiro, who, after losing his dominant right arm, was visibly less skilled with his left, relying on his years of combat instincts to fight "Lady."
"Lady" precisely controlled the distance between her and the two swordsmen, never allowing them to attack her simultaneously.
Realizing this, Ichiro and Shiro called out in their internal voice chat, "Jiro, come help us!" They knew that if two of them could get close to her at the same time, "Lady" would be overwhelmed.
Although it seemed disgraceful to fight three against one, they were willing to do it for victory.
