Chapter 1692: Taking Over The White Mist Sect

-----

Maria slowly descended from the skies, reuniting with everyone. At her side stood an immensely powerful new Undead—the White Mist Immortal, now transformed into a Rakshasa. A Rakshasa is a powerful Undead born when an Immortal corpse, infected with large quantities of impurities, is raised as a zombie using its own intact soul.

Of course, not everyone here knew that. Most thought he was simply someone new Maria had found, especially since he looked so different from his previous form... except for Wu Lieng, Yoomyung, and the two other Elders who had survived, though barely clinging to life.

"T-That’s...!" Wu Lieng gasped, recognizing the true identity behind the hideous demon. "White Mist Immortal?!"

"Wait, he is?!" Kim Hua asked. "How did his body...! Didn’t he die? What’s going on...?"

"Isn’t it obvious?"

"Lady Maria defeated him!"

"She must have turned that Immortal into her new pet, heheh!"

The three cocky disciples laughed, mocking an Immortal—something no one would ever dare to do under normal circumstances. But because they were on Maria’s side, they felt entitled.

"Hahaha! Serves you right!"

"You thought you could defeat Lady Maria?! You really are worthless scum!"

"Hahaha! Loser! Pathetic vermin! Bark for us like the dog you are!"

"Grrr..."

The White Mist Immortal groaned, gritting his sharp teeth, about to leap and tear them apart.

"Oi, stop that! Even if he’s now Maria’s Undead, it doesn’t mean you should insult him that way!" Elder Wu Lieng scolded, trying to calm his childish disciples.

"Nah, Wu Lieng, let the boys talk!" Maria laughed, patting the White Mist Immortal’s shoulder. "I don’t think there’s anything wrong with what they’re saying—it’s all true. He is indeed a dog! Bark for me."

"Huh?" The White Mist Immortal trembled as he saw Maria’s eerie smile, her eyes glowing bright red.

"I said bark like the dog you are," Maria smiled sadistically.

"A-Ahhh..." The Rakshasa dropped to all fours and began barking. "Woof...! Woof... Awroo..."

"Pfff... Hahahahahaha!" Lucifer joined the others, laughing hysterically.

"No way! He barked!" Partner laughed. "Hahaha! This is too much, master! Hahahahahaha!"

"Look at that idiot! Barking like a damn dog!"

"Serves him right! Hey, does anyone have a bone for the doggie?"

"Maybe we should pat his head, hahah!"

"..." Kim Hua facepalmed, embarrassed that these disciples were nearly his age.

At that moment, the Second Elder of the White Mist Sect, Elder Yoomyung, stepped forward, his face filled with indignation.

"Is this... really the White Mist Sect Master?" he asked, eyes wide with disbelief.

"Yoomyung..." the monster muttered. "It is me..."

"What?! So... you died?! You lost? To her?!" Yoomyung asked. "I... I thought you were the strongest of these mountains!"

"...I’m not," the White Mist Immortal admitted.

"Is it true that you ordered Fang Sheng to capture us and execute us publicly?" Wu Lieng asked, stepping forward.

The White Mist Immortal fell silent, glaring at the old man with both hatred and shame. He could hardly face him now, defeated and reduced to a demon enslaved by his enemy.

"Yes," he said at last, noticing Maria’s glare. "It was me... I did it. I ordered you all to be captured and executed. I wouldn’t have done it so eagerly if I had known you were so strong. From what floor do you even come from?! Are you members of the Upper Floors? You should’ve said so instead of massacring us!"

"No, we aren’t," Maria replied. "We come from Floor 50, a sealed world that hasn’t been visited for hundreds of years. Sealed away by a tyrant and his family who invaded that world and stole the divine thrones."

"...Yggdrasil?! That world the Crimson Order wants so badly..." the White Mist Immortal muttered. "Even if it’s not as high as Floor 60, it’s still right below Umbralheim’s territory—the only world that has resisted their invasion this entire time."

"Oh? I had no idea we were so popular," Lucifer chuckled. "A squad of those bloodsuckers did come to visit recently, but we slew them before they could do anything funny."

"That must have been a small squad of scouts," the White Mist Immortal said. "The real deal are much stronger. I guess you haven’t truly fought their strongest members yet—the Blood Knights, Crimson Dukes, or the even more terrifying Family Heads." 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

"Uh-huh, well who cares? We’ll beat them to a pulp," Partner shrugged.

"But why..." Yoomyung muttered. "Why would you betray me like this?! We’ve been friends our whole lives...! You were always understanding and kind to your disciples, even if ruthless with the rest of the world..."

"..."

The White Mist Immortal’s eyes burned with resentful anger, but also... a flicker of regret.

Two other figures entered the conversation—the Third and Fourth Elders, healed by Emeraldine and Jonathan.

Still weak and exhausted from battle, they were shocked to be forgiven and given a second chance. They stepped closer, eager to hear what their sect master had to say, though horrified by his new form.

"Don’t you understand, Yoomyung?!" the White Mist Immortal burst into tears of blood. "This is Murim! A world of ruthlessness! A world where you kill your friend and sacrifice your own son for power, status, and resources! This is the world you live in, fool!"

"...What?!" Yoomyung asked. "Even then...!"

"Even then what?!" the White Mist Immortal snapped. "The Murim Alliance ordered me to capture and execute you and your friends—including Wu Lieng. He’s the primary cause of all this! They’ve wanted him dead for ages, and they used this as an excuse to eliminate him. If you want someone to blame, blame him—your friend! Your sworn brother!"

Wu Lieng stared at the White Mist Immortal, his eyes filled with pain and sorrow. Wherever he went, misfortune followed because of who he truly was.

"At the end, it seems my very life is cursed with misfortune..." Wu Lieng sighed. "Hahah... I’m sorry, my friend. It’s indeed all my fault. I shouldn’t have come here... none of this would have happened if I hadn’t."

"...No," Yoomyung interrupted. "This is not your fault, Wu Lieng. It was never your fault, nor your father’s, nor your siblings’, nor your mother’s. It was the fault of the Murim Alliance—those at the top of this world—who cannot fathom someone as strong or stronger than them spreading ideals of freedom, fighting against fate, rebelling against the heavens, and standing for what’s right—for our families, our friends, our children..."

"They want to keep us dumb, ruthless, monstrous. Focused solely on survival, no different than beasts, no different than worms crawling under the soil! Despite all its laws and authorities, this is a lawless world! One where betrayal and murder are expected! They want to keep us like this! And... I am tired of it!" Elder Yoomyung declared.

"Y-Yoomyung..." the Third Elder muttered. "W-What are you suggesting? To go against the Murim Alliance?!"

"You must be crazy..." the Fourth Elder cried, barely standing. "If you’re so eager to die pointlessly, then go! Leave us alone! Leave this place now!"

"Yeah, leave!" the Third Elder added. "H-Haven’t you caused enough destruction? Look at our sect... this is..."

"I’ll leave..." Yoomyung sighed. "Stay here and keep kissing the boots of those who see you only as tools... no, as puppets, perhaps even insects."

As the elder walked away, Wu Lieng followed, trying to calm him, smiling faintly—his friend had chosen to walk the same path as he did.

"Should we leave then?" Alma asked. "I think... we’ve done enough here."

"What? No?" Maria said. "Why would we ever leave this place? It’s ours. And those two idiots—come back here!"

She quickly grabbed the Third and Fourth Elders with her phantom hands. They tried to run, but Maria didn’t give them the chance.

"You thought you had the right to kick us out now? Look at your Master," Maria said, patting the Immortal’s head. "You’re going to go with us, and you’re going to fight for us."

"W-What? You’re crazy...! We don’t want to do that!" the Third Elder shouted.

"Go on your insane crusade alone! Don’t drag us into it!" the Fourth Elder added.

"Ohhh? You think you even have a choice?" Maria laughed. Chains of phantasmal energy wrapped around their necks, forcing a Soul Contract upon their souls.

"Aaaggh!"

"Uugh?!"

Both screamed in agony as Maria pulled the chains, lifting their faces close to hers.

"You’re my slaves now, and so is your entire damned sect. You all belong to me—you’re my spoils of war," Maria declared coldly. "You will fight... and die for me. And once you die, you will rise again as Undead, only to die over and over. This is how you will repent for your sins."

"Y-You killed our entire sect!"

"What are you even talking about? They’re all gone!"

"Are they?" Maria asked with a sly smile. "Look."

Suddenly, more than half of the sect members who had fought stepped forward. They were heavily wounded but alive, being healed en masse.

Those who had unfortunately perished against the more ruthless fighters, like Partner, were quickly turned into Jiangshi—yet they regained their consciousness as well.
