Reborn As A Ghost: Time To Build My Undead Army!-Chapter 1707: The Blood Demon Sect
-----
Despite how fast Lucifer traveled, the skies of Murim were not as easy to cross as those of Yggdrasil. Because of the sheer lack of Mana, beings born from magical worlds like Yggdrasil struggled over time if they did not learn to properly absorb Ki.
Thus, a dragon—a powerful magical being requiring vast amounts of ambient Mana like Lucifer—grew tired after a while and slowed his flight. Despite his immense strength and vast Mana reserves, he discovered his limits.
Wu Lieng and Yoomyung helped him absorb the ambient Ki instead, and Lucifer began awakening his Meridians one by one, gradually improving his ability to fly in these heavy skies. The Low Heavens were not merely clouds but endless seas of thick, condensed Heavenly Ki, exerting immense pressure on any living being flying beneath them.
This affected not only Lucifer but also everyone riding atop him. Those who were not Martial Artists or Cultivators from Murim felt the same crushing force—except for Maria. Her powers were far beyond such limitations. Her internal Mana was so vast and regenerated so quickly that she did not need ambient energy at all.
In fact, she could easily survive outer space and the void, perhaps even feed on the emptiness of space or the radiation of stars—how she assumed Outer Gods subsisted.
Because of this, and despite their best efforts, it took half a day to reach the territory of the Blood Demon Sect: the Windy Mountains. As expected, the region was indeed windy. Maria marveled at the powerful storms raging across the skies, strong winds tearing through the land, leaving only the toughest trees standing.
"Why did you choose such a chaotic place as your sect’s territory?" Arthur asked, glaring at Wu Lieng with slight annoyance. He looked visibly exhausted after cultivating vast amounts of Ki to sustain himself against the pressure of flying beneath the Low Heavens.
"I believe that question answers itself once you consider the problem the Murim Alliance had against me, young master," Wu Lieng replied.
"Oh, right," Arthur muttered, recalling that Wu Lieng was the Heavenly Demon’s son—the one they wanted dead. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
"But the winds of this mountain were clearly not enough to stop them..." Kim Hua said quietly, descending with the other three disciples of the Blood Demon Sect, led by Wu Lieng.
"Well done," Maria said, as Lucifer returned to his humanoid form. "Are you tired?"
"Not that much," he replied. "Somehow, I’ve grown stronger just from flying. This world is definitely built to train both body and mind. I can see why everyone born here is so strong, and why so many players come here to learn."
"That’s right," Yoomyung nodded. "Despite the many fantastic worlds within the Tower, Murim is still the greatest, isn’t it?"
"I wouldn’t go that far, but it’s an incredible world," Maria laughed. "And just how big are these mountains? Is it really a thousand mountains, or something like that?"
"It’s not a thousand—it’s thousands," Wu Lieng explained. "This vast territory extends through the entire southwestern sector. The Thousand Mountains are one of the five Regions of Murim. The Endless Grasslands lie at the center, the Eternal Winter Land to the southeast, and then there’s the Scorching Sand Sea and the Azure Ocean. Beyond that, the Low Heavens, Mid Heavens, and Upper Heavens are vast lands as large as the world itself, filled with floating islands and even floating continents."
"Wow, this world is infinitely vaster than I imagined... Isn’t it as big as Yggdrasil?" Maria wondered, rubbing her chin. "I wish I could explore it more, but maybe later. Anyway, is that the place, Wu Lieng? It looks run down."
"It is..." Wu Lieng said, glancing at the building.
The fortress-like structure was built of black wood and decorated with red steel. This was the Blood Demon Sect’s home.
Kim Hua and the disciples felt a deep ache in their hearts as they saw their beloved home, now dilapidated, covered in cracks, with holes across the walls and ceiling.
The last time they left, everything had been fine. The disciples were studying, and the elders were reprimanding them as usual.
Now, as they entered, they were greeted by an ominous silence.
"We are back home."
Wu Lieng touched the walls, his eyes filled with pain and sorrow.
The floor was covered in dried blood. Furniture lay broken and scattered.
As they passed through the door, they saw two dried corpses, their faces twisted in agony, clutching their spears tightly. Their bodies were pierced with needles and daggers.
"Needles and daggers coated with poison," Wu Lieng sighed. "This was the Poison Sect’s doing... You fought hard to protect our sect, didn’t you? Rest in peace."
Wu Lieng prayed for the two fallen disciples, and so did the others. They could not recognize them, but they knew they were among their colleagues, friends, and rivals.
As they delved deeper, they found more corpses. Maria looked around in silence. For a moment, she considered raising them as Undead but stopped herself.
She did not want to insult them. Though for her—someone who had died and become a ghost—being given the chance to return as an Undead was a second chance, not a curse.
But in Murim, as in Yggdrasil, Necromancy was seen as cruel sorcery. People here were deeply religious, believing corpses should remain untouched and souls should pass peacefully.
To them, turning someone into an Undead was torture, not salvation. Maria, despite her different views, understood. And in some ways, she agreed.
Though grateful for her chance to continue "living" after death, she often felt it was torture. Her soul had been resentful, filled with negative emotions that bound her to the mortal world.
It was never truly a good thing.
Though she had mostly overcome it, evolving into something between life and death, she still remembered the despair.
"Everyone..." Kim Hua whispered, gazing at the corpses. "Is there not a single living soul here?"
"The Elders...?" Wu Lieng muttered.
As they walked further, they found two figures at the center—and behind them, dozens of young corpses.
Children.
The two elders lay dead, their arms wrapped around the youngest disciples, as if comforting them in their final moments.
They had tried to give the children warmth before their hearts stopped beating.
Maria’s eyes widened.
Until now, she had felt sorrow. But this time, sorrow was mixed with disbelief.
And boiling wrath.
"They died... protecting the children..." Wu Lieng fell to his knees, covering his face as he cried in agony.
His disciples wept as well, screaming in fury, pounding the floor and walls.
"My god..." Alma covered her mouth. "T-This is... horrible..."
"They killed children?!" Emeraldine gasped. "No... how could anyone be so cruel?"
Jonathan remained silent, thinking of the man he had faced. "Poisonous Needle Assassin... Were you part of this massacre? Did I do wrong by sparing your life?"
"Maria..." Lucifer muttered. "Thankfully we left the rest of the group outside... But do you see any souls?"
"No..." Maria sighed. "I don’t see any. Which is strange. If they died like this, they should have left great resentment. Did they truly pass peacefully, or...?"
"Hmmm..." Yoomyung stroked his beard nervously. "Something of this scale... it’s not like the Poison Sect to act alone."
"...?" Wu Lieng glanced at his old friend. "What do you mean?"
"They are assassins. Would you really expect them to knock at the front door and storm in with needles and daggers?" Yoomyung said calmly. "Other sects helped."
"Such as...?" Kim Hua asked.
"This level of massacre..." Yoomyung muttered. "The Poison Sect is capable, but they had help. Another sect with strong warriors stormed through while they slaughtered everyone inside. Most likely, they stole everything valuable too."
Yoomyung walked to the wall on his left, finding several fist-shaped marks across the stone. He recognized them immediately.
"The Iron Fist Sect’s technique..." Yoomyung said. "And over there, I see more traces... fire."
