Chapter 103: Ch 103: There is a Rat in the Farm- Part 1

"So, let’s say that one of us did betray the system. Then what? What can we even do about it? We won’t be able to find the truth without the system’s help anyway. And if the system has decided to not do anything, should we even bother being concerned?"

The jellyfish asked in a calm voice.

Unlike other species, her species had powers of their own even before the system arrived. So she was not as reliant on the system as the others were.

And yet, even she knew that going against the system was not possible, with or without powers.

"Tsk, I loathe to agree with someone as cowardly and weak as that jellyfish, but even I have to agree. Should we bother doing anything if even the system has decided to look the other way?"

The half-dragon asked, and others began to agree. Slowly, the conversation shifted from the original topic. But the puppet quickly decided to bring it back to normal.

"You all might decide to look the other way, but for me, the loss of someone from my faction is an important thing I need to look into. I am going to ask for power to interfere in the human world."

The puppet’s words were suddenly met with silence before the meeting erupted into chaos.

"Are you saying...you want to become the next boss? Heh-! Now things are turning amusing."

"Do you want to die? You as a boss is...don’t take it the wrong way, but you are not really the strongest, and the system will also put a limit on you. Why don’t you allow me to replace you? I am itching to get revenge for my people."

The half-dragon suggested, and he flexed his claw to show that he was ready to go any second.

But the puppet just ignored that man.

"If I die in the human world, then it was just my time. No flame is eternal in this world, but as a leader, it is my duty to ensure that the young flames do not go out before they have time to be nourished. I will carry out the system’s will."

She told the system and the meeting to calm down. The empty tables around the meeting room looked back at her, but the puppet did not feel scared.

In fact, she did not feel anything other than her desire to fulfil her mission. This was the nature of her species and one that had allowed them to be spared by the system.

"Oh my-! You are heading back from the meeting, my dear puppet? Why are you in such a rush?"

She turned to look at the doctor who walked toward her. He was...a weird creature. He was always masked from head to toe, so it was impossible to tell who he was and what he represented.

He was also a member of one of the thirteen species the system kept around, but unlike others who had people to look after, he was the only one of his kind...not that he bothered to show up a lot.

There were rumors that if you ever entered his lab, then you would never be seen again.

"Can I help you with anything?"

The puppet asked with an empty look on her face, but inside, she was vigilant. The doctor noticed this but did not make any sudden move.

Instead, he passed her a smile.

"Help me?...Why yes, you can. But not now. I just want you to send me some data when you go to the human world as a boss. The previous person I sent is...not responding to me."

The doctor’s voice held no hint of irritation, only curiosity and the desire to know more.

Merely standing in his presence made the puppet feel sick. She wanted to leave as soon as possible, and the only way to do that was to agree with that demand.

"Alright. Send me the link, and I will send you the data."

She agreed and turned to leave. The doctor just smiled at her the whole time.

"Thank you for your help. Honestly, all you puppets look the same to me, so I actually thought you all acted in the same unreasonable way. It is nice to see that, unlike the previous person I asked, you are much more agreeable."

"What does that-"

The puppet turned around, but the doctor was gone. His words suddenly cleared a lot of doubts the puppet had.

One of the remaining puppets had gone missing, and no one had seen them. She had her doubts that it had been the doctor who caused this mess, and now he had confirmed her words.

’But why would the doctor...this is not important. I need to bring that puppet back as soon as possible...’

The female puppet suddenly felt even better about her decision to head to the human world as a boss. But before that, she needed to plan out the next game.

The system was fair...too fair, so she could not make the game one where the aim was to kill the boss. She would need to be creative about this...

"What a hassle. As soon as I have my wayward puppet back, I will quit being the game master. It is not a position for me."

"Huh-! This is weird. Weren’t there more tomatoes around the garden a few hours ago? Or is my memory bad?"

Clara questioned as she looked at the garden in front of her. Andrew, who was farming with her, also looked at the garden with a tense look.

"You are right. The number of tomatoes has decreased since we last checked. I don’t recall harvesting them either..."

"Which means...we have rats here. Tsk, have the animals become shameless enough to start stealing from us? We will need to take some countermeasures."

Clara declared with determined eyes. She was not one to play around when it came to her farm, and Andrew could tell that nothing would distract her.

"Hurry, we need to set traps right now. There is no way I am going to allow a rat to ruin my farm."
