Reborn as the General's Useless Daughter-Chapter 33: I want this Silver Cauldron
It was Rosemund. Her gaze was also fixed firmly on the silver cauldron, and it was obvious she had taken a liking to it at first sight. Unfortunately, its price was far beyond what she could usually afford.
Today, however, things were different.
Luna was desperate to curry favor with her.
Rosemund naturally would not miss this opportunity.
The moment Rosemund spoke, Luna’s heart sank sharply.
Her gaze hurriedly dropped to the price engraved below the cauldron—
200,000 gold coins.
The number nearly made her dizzy.
Her father had only given her 100,000 gold coins to help her entertain Rosemund today. Even after adding all her remaining private savings, she barely had 130,000 in total.
She had thought this was already a generous amount.
She never imagined that Rosemund would open her mouth for two hundred thousand in one breath.
Luna’s smile stiffened, her fingers tightening unconsciously.
"Ro... Rose... Rosemund," she said carefully, her voice strained, "this... this cauldron costs two hundred thousand gold coins..."
She simply couldn’t take out that much right now.
Seeing her hesitation, Rosemund’s expression immediately cooled.
"If you don’t want it, then forget it."
Her tone was flat, but the meaning behind it was unmistakable.
The moment those words fell, Luna’s heart skipped violently.
She panicked instantly.
"Sister Rosemund, it’s not that I’m unwilling," she hurriedly explained. "It’s just that two hundred thousand is really too much at once... I don’t have that much on hand. How about we choose another one?"
She had gone through so much effort merely to bring Rosemund here today. If things fell apart now, all her plans would collapse.
After all, the medicines she needed for the royal hunting were not ordinary potions. Without Garreth Light’s personal help, even if she bought all the herbs in Elysia Trading Hall, it would still be useless.
Rosemund’s eyes narrowed slightly, her lips curling faintly with impatience.
"I only like this one. I have no interest in the others," she said coldly. "If you can’t afford it, we can forget the whole thing. As for asking my Master for help—do as you please."
Those words landed like a blunt hammer on Luna’s chest.
Her face whitened instantly.
"Wait, Sister Rosemund... please wait a moment," she said anxiously. "I’ll think of a way. I’ll definitely buy it for you—just give me a little time, alright?"
Only then did Rosemund’s expression soften slightly. "Then I’ll wait."
As Luna struggled desperately over how to scrape together another seventy thousand gold coins, Zora stood not far away, calmly watching the entire farce unfold.
Her gaze was filled with unhidden sarcasm.
She truly hadn’t expected that Luna, who had always been so arrogant, could bend herself so low for the sake of pleasing others.
Just then, the waitress walked up beside Zora with a respectful smile. "Miss, which Cauldron would you like to purchase?"
Luna, already irritated and restless, suddenly heard those words and turned her head sharply.
When she realized the waitress was asking Zora, she burst out laughing.
"Hahaha—did I hear right?" she mocked loudly. "You actually want to buy a Cauldron?"
She looked at Zora as though she had heard the biggest joke of the year.
"What’s wrong with me buying one?" Zora asked calmly.
Luna laughed even harder, her face full of ridicule.
"You’re not even an alchemist! What are you buying a cauldron for? To take it home and cook food?"
Her words were sharp and malicious, and her voice deliberately rose in volume so everyone on the second floor could hear.
Her earlier frustration with Rosemund had been suffocating her. Now that she finally found someone she thought she could trample on, all her humiliation poured out in mockery.
However, Zora merely looked at her indifferently.
The gaze she cast over Luna was calm, faintly bored—
As if she were looking at a clown who didn’t even realize she was already ridiculous.
And then...
"I want this Cauldron."
Zora lifted her hand and pointed directly at the silver cauldron resting at the center of the shelf. Her voice was calm, unhurried, as if she were merely selecting an ordinary object.
The moment those words fell, Luna’s smile froze completely.
The smugness lingering on her face shattered instantly, replaced by shock—and then by seething rage.
"Zora, are you deliberately provoking me?!"
In Luna’s eyes, Zora had no reason to buy a Cauldron at all. She was not an alchemist. She had never made potions or elixirs. To her, this could only mean one thing—
Zora was doing this on purpose.
She had seen her and Rosemund entangled over the cauldron and deliberately chose the very same one to humiliate her in public.
Rosemund’s expression also changed slightly.
She had set her sights on this silver cauldron the moment she saw it. Normally, Cauldrons were rarely purchased in the Imperial City, and this one had been sitting here for months. She had thought she would eventually take it home.
Yet now, at the last moment, another person actually came forward to compete for it.
The unexpected development made her nerves tense.
Zora cast a lazy glance at Luna, her expression faint and indifferent, as if she were looking at someone completely unrelated.
"You’re overthinking things," she said lightly. "I’m not interested in you."
Those words were casual, but to Luna’s ears, they were more humiliating than any direct insult.
She wasn’t even worth being targeted.
"Luna!" Rosemund then quickly called out in a low voice.
She could no longer remain calm. If Zora truly bought the cauldron, then all her leverage would be gone.
Luna immediately reacted and turned to the waitress at the side. "This cauldron is ours! You are not allowed to sell it to her!"
Her tone was sharp and forceful, as though her identity alone was enough to suppress everyone present.
Zora raised her brows slightly. The corners of her lips curved into a faint, mocking smile as she tilted her chin and looked at Luna with calm amusement.
"Then buy it," she said simply.
Her voice was light, but it struck straight into Luna’s weak spot.
The instant those words landed, Luna froze.
Buy it?
With what?
Her face stiffened, and her fingers clenched tightly at her sides. The truth was something she did not want to admit—she simply did not have two hundred thousand gold coins.
"If you can’t afford it," Zora continued casually, turning her gaze back toward the waitress, "then I naturally will."
"Isn’t that the rule?"
The waitress hesitated briefly but still nodded. "Yes."
Luna’s face flushed red, then turned pale.
"Wait a moment," she said through clenched teeth. "I’ll go back and gather the money. Hold it for me!"
The humiliation burned fiercely in her chest. No matter what, she absolutely could not let Zora take this cauldron in front of her eyes.
The waitress gave a polite smile. "Miss, you may place a deposit of one hundred thousand gold coins. If you fail to return in time, the deposit will not be refunded."
Luna’s face turned a shade darker. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Even if she paid the deposit, where would she find the remaining seventy thousand gold coins?
She knew very well that if she went back to ask her father for such a large amount, he would never agree. Two hundred thousand gold coins was not a small sum even for the General’s Manor. On top of that, she still needed to prepare payment for Garreth Light’s alchemy.
The burden was simply too heavy.
Seeing her wavering, the waitress tried to smooth things over gently.
"Miss, the two Cauldrons beside this one are also of very good quality. Perhaps you could consider—"
Luna turned to look at Rosemund.
But Rosemund’s posture was firm, her gaze locked stubbornly on the silver cauldron. There was no room for negotiation in her expression.
She wanted this one—and only this one.
At that moment, Zora’s patience finally wore thin. "I’ll take it," she said directly.
